In order for the Department of Technical Education (CTE) District Office to certify that your academies meet the statutory requirements (Section 1003.493, F.S.) of the Florida CAPE Act, high schools must complete the attached fillable CAPE Annual Registration Form for each academy. High Schools must register NEW CAPE academies and re-register academies submitted during 2013-2014. The 2013-2014 list of registered CAPE Academies is attached for your reference. If you have questions concerning specific academies, contact the appropriate supervisor as listed at http://dcte.dadeschools.net/contact.html All CAPE registration forms will be reviewed prior to submission to FL-DOE by the district CTE office. When the CAPE Annual Registration form is completed for each academy, click the submit button in the upper right hand corner, which will automatically go to Mr. Henri Cepero, Instructional Supervisor, Technical Education, via e-mail hcepero@dadeschools.net. This form must be submitted no later than Monday, September 8, 2014. NOTE: For Industry Certifications earned in the 2014-2015 school year by CAPE Academies and Career-Themed Courses, Bonus Teacher Funding will be made available. Department of Technical Education Education (CAPE) Annual Registration Form Purpose: The purpose of this form is to identify Technical Education (CTE) Academies to be registered as Education (CAPE) Academies for the 2014-15 school year. Schools must meet the requirements in Section 1003.493, Florida Statutes. All fields are required. School within a school ACADEMY STRUCTURE Wall to Wall Grade Level of Students in the Estimated Student Enrollment in the ACADEMY ELEMENTS (per s. 1003.493, F.S.) Education (CAPE) Academies must meet all academy elements to qualify to be a registered CAPE. Schools are required to check all boxes to assure they are aware of the required elements. Provide a rigorous standards-based academic curriculum integrated with a career curriculum; consider multiple styles of student learning; promote learning by doing through application and adaptation; maximize relevance of the subject matter; enhance each student s capacity to excel; and include an emphasis on work habits and work ethics Include one or more partnerships with postsecondary institutions, businesses, industry, employers, economic development organizations, or other appropriate partners from the local community. Such partnerships must provide opportunities for: 1. Instruction from highly skilled professionals who possess industry-certification credentials for courses they are teaching. 2. Internships, externships, and on-the-job training. 3. A postsecondary degree, diploma, or certificate. 4. The highest available level of industry certification. 5. Maximum articulation of credits pursuant to s. 1007.23, F.S., upon program completion. Promotes and provide opportunities for career and professional academy students to attain, at minimum, the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars award pursuant to s. 1009.536, F.S. Provides instruction in careers designated as high skill, high wage, and high demand by the regional workforce development board, the chamber of commerce, economic development agencies, or the Department of Economic Opportunity Delivers academic content through instruction relevant to the career, including intensive reading and mathematics intervention required by s. 1003.428, F.S., with an emphasis on strengthening reading for information skills. Offers applied courses that combine academic content with technical skills. Provides instruction resulting in competency, certification, or credentials in workplace skills, including, but not limited to, communication skills, interpersonal skills, decision making skills, the importance of attendance and timeliness in the work environment, and work ethics INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS 1. All courses offered lead to an industry certification or college credit linked directly to the career theme of the course. If the passage rate on an industry certification examination associated with the academy falls below fifty percent (50%), the 3 year strategic plan must be amended to include specific strategies to improve the passage rate of the academy or career themed course. CERTIFICATIONS EARNED Provide an estimate of the number of industry certifications that will be earned by students in the academy for the 2014-2015 school year.
