Parent Council and Election Process B. Povolo -M. O Brien circulated nomination forms -B. Povolo briefly reviewed St. Mary C.S.S. Parent Council Executive Positions and election process: Executive Positions are as follows: Chair Co-Chair Secretary Financial Secretary (aka Treasurer) Parent Representatives and Grade Representatives (maximum of 12): o Grade 9 o Grade 10 o Grade 11 o Grade 12 o French o Parent Representative -candidates are elected to the Parents Council Executive through a nomination form -potential candidates are required to indicate on the nomination form their preferred position on the Executive. In the event that more than one candidate forwards their name for the same position, a vote or ballot election is held -each parent/guardian seeking election can be nominated in writing, by another individual -both the Nominator and the Candidate must have a child registered at the school, and must declare whether he or she is employed by the Durham Catholic District School Board -the expectation is that Executive members attend all meetings

Wednesday, May 4, 2016 Wednesday, June 1, 2016 Budget Update M. O Brien & R. Hussein -M. O Brien and R. Hussein provided brief overview of how council funds are managed and source of funds including: -major fundraiser Used Uniform Sale -$5.00 per student that is allocated to Parent Council from Ministry -L. Cairns confirmed our current balance is $10,736.66, which includes both the summer Used Uniform Sale and this year s $5.00/student allocation -advised M. O Brien that council would like to know approximate cost of this year s Graduation and potential asks from Teachers M. O Brien to report back on both at next council meeting Used Uniform Sale R. Hussein -explained for new parents format of used uniform sale, volunteer work required and 2 sales -all proceeds go back to council -current inventory of uniforms is substantial -discussed and agreed to organize and run a Fall sale: Wednesday, November 4, 2015 6:00 pm 8:00 pm -volunteers are required: 1-Washing of uniforms (can pick up any time by contacting the office) 2-Set-Up of Used Uniform Sale on Wednesday, November 4 2015 @ 4:00 pm 3-Running of Sale cash collection, keeping inventory for sale tidy etc. -M. Wilson-Clarke will coordinate advertising both the sale and request for more donations on school website, daily announcements and through career cruising e-mail blasts Graduation 2015-2016 -it was decided by school admin to move this year s Graduation to a new facility -agreed should be a location in Durham Region (last year s held in Scarborough) -agreed there was a need for a larger facility to allow for student to invite more guests to attend -this year s Graduation will be held: Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 6:00 pm 9: pm Kingdom Hall, Oshawa Non-Uniform Days -one time collection of $15.00 (10 non-uniform days) -in addition, DCDSB has requested schools host an additional non-uniform day, with all proceeds being directed to Syrian Refugees -M. O Brien clarified that all funds raised through non-uniform days are divided up between a number of charities
NEW BUSINESS Principal s Report M. O Brien -smooth start to the 2015-2016 school year -enrollment has increased: As of May 2015-1444 As of September 2015-1520 -a number of new staff have joined St. Mary -Morning announcements now take place at 10:10am instead of first thing allows for less interruptions during announcements and more orderly start to class First School Mass Wednesday, September 23, 2015 Arts Department -Band has begun practices -Choir has begun practices -School Musical will take place in November, 2015 Athletics -a number of fall sports have started -for more information, see school website: http://stmary.dcdsb.ca/index.php/menu-top-faculty/106-departments/457-physed Retreat Leaders -120 students have been selected -Leadership training will take place at Marygrove Camp in two sessions -M.
