Schools in North County strive daily to best prepare students for life after graduation. Our graduates and their accomplishments provide evidence that North County schools are doing an excellent job in preparing our students for the world that awaits them after high school. HAZELWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT The Hazelwood School District, which is one of the largest school districts in the state, graduated more than 1,350 seniors in the class of 2012 in ceremonies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The HSD class of 2012 earned more than $12.9 million in college scholarships. Over the last four years, the classes of 2012 contributed 104,892 hours of community service. Hazelwood Central gave 38,464 hours of service. Three graduates had the highest number of donated hours Daysha Gathing gave 700.5 hours; Chriscess Dailey gave 579.5 hours; and Brendan Haire gave 551 hours. Hazelwood East donated 23,719 hours of service. The highest number of donated hours were performed by Megan Blair with 613 hours; Cedric Johnson with 441 hours; and Jazmin Keller with 419 hours. Hazelwood West gave 42,708 hours of service. The highest number of hours were donated by Carolina Cruz with 811.30 hours; Samantha Eickhoff with 800 hours; and Isabella Kamau with 523 hours. HSD students will attend universities across the country and locally, including Princeton University, Boston University, Saint Louis University, Truman State, Ball State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Drake University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Webster University, University of Missouri, Southeast Missouri State and University of Kansas. Luther Banner, a graduate of Hazelwood Central High School, received a full scholarship to attend MIT. Brittney Watkins, a graduate of Hazelwood West High School, received a full scholarship to Princeton University. A number of HSD graduates will take advantage of the Missouri A+ scholarships. All three Hazelwood high schools are designated Missouri A+ Schools. The goal of the A+ program is to ensure that all students who graduate from a Missouri high school are prepared to pursue advanced education and employment. It provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates
who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools. Thanks to the active and generous HSD PTA Council Scholarship Foundation, 100 graduating seniors received $500 scholarships to the college of their choice. LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL NORTH Lutheran High School North is proud of the 79 students in its 2012 class. Of those students, 78 will attend college and one plans to enter the United States Marine Corps. The class of 2012 was offered more than $10.7 million in scholarships and grants. This stellar class boasts five valedictorians with 4.0 grade point averages and one salutatorian with a 3.987 grade point average. Thirty-two students of the class are members of the National Honor Society. The class members earned acceptances at schools such as Boston University, Duke University, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Howard University, Loyola University, Middlebury College, Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University and Washington University. Students earned scholarship money for high academic accomplishments, leadership, service and athletics. Athletic scholarships were earned in basketball, football, soccer, and track and field. The senior class members contributed hundreds of hours of volunteer service at area churches and within the community. Students will attend 47 different colleges and universities, with the highest percentage going to Missouri publics. Five students will attend Lutheran schools (Concordia University-Chicago, Concordia University-Irvine, Grand View University, Valparaiso University, and Wartburg College). The senior class exhibited leadership within the school, set high standards in the classroom, and excelled in many extra-curricular endeavors. They modeled the way, inspired a shared vision, challenged the process, enabled others to act, and encouraged the heart! PATTONVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT
On May 31, 358 students graduated in Pattonville High School's Class of 2012. Here's a look at our graduates: 97 students earned the honors of summa/magna or cum laude (3.5 weighted GPA or greater) 97 students earned A+ status, which makes them eligible for two years of paid tuition to any Missouri community college or career education school 1 National Merit Scholarship winner 18 Bright Flight Scholarship winners for top-ranked high school students attending Missouri post-secondary schools 146 seniors earned $5.4 million in scholarships Seniors completed 46,000 hours of community service during their four years of high school 66 seniors earned community service honor cords for volunteering 150 hours or more (with two-thirds of service completed off campus during nonschool hours) Top three graduating seniors for hours of community service: Erik Schrader (773 hours), Mario Khalil (641), Marc Prather (488) Pattonville High School recently recognized its Top 10 seniors (based on grade point average as of the end of the first semester). The school presented the Top 10 with shirts from the universities they will be attending after graduation this month. Pattonville's seniors attend a wide variety of schools. Several were chosen for highly selective institutions such as the U.S. Naval Academy, Duke University and Washington University. Many will attend state universities in Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas and other areas around the country. Because Pattonville is an A+ School and eligible graduates can receive two years of paid tuition to any Missouri community college or career education school, many will take that route. Others have selected to go into the military or employment. Pattonville offers a number of courses during high school that enable to students to graduate with college credit or a certification that
prepares them to enter the workplace - such as a certified nurse assistant certification. Pattonville High School offers an extensive college counseling program for students and families to help prepare for and finance a college education, including evening college events for families, the after-school Pattonville College Boot Camp for students and the summer Pattonville College Academy for first-generation, college-bound students. Pattonville is fortunate to have a college counselor who works one-on-one with students and their families to help them through the process. RITENOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT Celebrates Class of 2012 Look out world, here they come! Thousands of family and friends were on hand to congratulate Ritenour High School (RHS) graduates as they received their diplomas and opened the book to the next chapter of their lives on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The graduation ceremony took place at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The evening capped a year filled with numerous achievements. Nearly 300 students made up the class of 2012. It was the 94 th class to graduate from RHS. Valedictorian Joyce Ha and Salutatorian Juan Carlos Hernandez delivered the commencement addresses. Ha and Hernandez were honored, along with their families, for their numerous academic achievements. They head the 2012 class that boasts 20 President s Education Award recipients, 59 completing the A+ program and numerous scholarship recipients. To help further their education, the graduating class earned nearly $2.5 million in scholarships, grants and other financial aid. In addition, Ritenour students have been accepted to more than 50 colleges or universities, including the University of Missouri, Missouri University of Science & Technology, Oklahoma State University and Kansas State University. TRINITY HIGH SCHOOL Trinity senior earns $180,000 college scholarship from Marine Corps
On March 27 two members of the United States Marine Corps visited Trinity to inform senior Zhane Ochoa she had been selected to receive one of the two NROTC scholarships from the state of Missouri. Captain David Klingensmith and Gunnery Sergeant Jason Lindsey made the surprise announcement during Mr. Bebe s religion class. The scholarship will provide Zhane with $180,000 for her undergraduate education. Zhane was one of 52 applicants chosen for the scholarships from the states of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Upon graduation, Zhane will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. The scholarship may be used at any of the schools at which Zhane is accepted. She has been accepted at the University of Missouri-Columbia and she has applied at the University of Southern California, the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University and the University of California at Los Angeles. Zhane s selection was based on her academic achievements, educational goals and physical stamina. Zhane also was named the Trinity winner of the Archbishop May Service Award given by the Archdiocese of St. Louis to one student at each Catholic high school who excelled in their Christian Service efforts. Zhane was just one of several talented seniors to graduate from Trinity this past spring. Overall, 43% of the senior class received a total of $2,546,800.00 in scholarships. Of that amount, $2,532,500.00 is for multi-year packages.
