Clinton Wiley Baber was born on September 12, 1909 in Fluvanna County, Va. He received his B.S. degree in 1935 from Virginia Tech, where he was the first student to be elected to five honorary fraternities. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Col. Baber s first career was in chemical warfare with the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C.
