Clinton Wiley Baber was born on September 12, 1909 in Fluvanna County, Va. He received his B.S. degree in 1935 from Virginia Tech, where he was the first student to be elected to five honorary fraternities. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Col. Baber s first career was in chemical warfare with the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. He worked for many years in the tobacco industry in Richmond, Venezuela and in the Philippines. For 20 years he worked in commercial real estate at Harrison & Bates. Col. Baber served as Chairman of the Virginia Section of The American Chemical Society and on the General Staff of The Military Order of the World Wars. Col. Baber and his wife, Lucille, established this scholarship through their estate. Col.
