This term will again be a very busy term both educationally and with extra curricula activities. The teachers have been planning exciting units of work for all classes and I know that the children will settle back into routine quickly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who have worked many days at the school during the holidays. Kellyville Public School has very dedicated members of staff. During the holidays work has been completed around the school including guttering, carpeting, plumbing and gardening. ANZAC Tomorrow I will be attending the Castle Hill RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service with our school Captains. This is a very moving ceremony. Our captains will be laying a wreath. ANZAC Display. In the school office area an ANZAC display has been created with many items of interest. Thank you to Mr Murray for lending the school his precious items. Tuesday May 8th Sport Photos Thursday May 10th School Photos Friday May 11th Mother s Day Stall IMPORTANT DIARY DATES Please include these dates in your diaries 07/06/2012 Staff Development Day School Service Yesterday the school captains conducted our school s ANZAC service. Children from Kindergarten to Year 6 heard about the different aspects of ANZAC and remembered the service people who fought for our country and also those who are deployed in peacekeeping missions today. Our special Guest Mr James Murray spoke to the children about his father s war service and his son s current service with the Navy. Thank you to Mr Mathews who organised the assembly. From the Deputy Principal.. Welcome Back to Term 2. I hope all families had a wonderful Easter and a restful holiday and are ready for an extremely busy but very enjoyable Term 2. The children have settled in really well and displayed exemplary manners at our Anzac Day Ceremony yesterday. A Police Visit We began the term on Monday morning with a police visit from Senior Constable Jason Roughley, the School Liason Officer from Castle Hill Police Station. He came to speak to Stage 3 students about the values of honesty, respecting the property of others and the importance of telling the truth. Senior Constable Roughley also spoke with the students about the dangers of leaving the school grounds without permission. Communicating with unknown people on Facebook, interactive Games and other social networking sites were also topics discussed. Senior Constable Roughley s advice to parents is that computers and mobile phones should not be left in children s rooms overnight but should instead be placed in a central location in the house for overnight charging. This security measure prevents children from having their sleep disturbed by the overuse of computers and phones overnight. It also helps to alert parents if their child is being harassed by another individual throughout the night. An Important Diary Date NAPLAN tests for Yrs 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be conducted across Australia in government and non government schools from Tuesday, 15th May to Thursday, 17th May, inclusive. Friday 18th May will be a catch up day scheduled for students who missed a test or were absent on a test day. A letter to parents with further details was sent home with all Year 3 and Year 5 students at the end of last term. There will be no scripture classes or Primary Assembly on Wednesday, 16th May, due to the NAPLAN Testing. Winter Uniform A reminder that due to school photos being earlier this year, the winter uniform change over will be on Monday 7th May. This is a timely reminder that black track pants are for sport days only. Black or coloured leggings are not part of the uniform and are not to be worn under the tunic or as part of the sports uniform. White ankle socks, black stocking or tights are to be worn under the winter tunic for girls. The Kellyville School hat is part of the winter uniform. The Kellyville red jumper and year 6 jacket are the correct uniform. Coloured jumpers are NOT part of the uniform. We expect all students to wear the correct uniform. At Kellyville we are very proud of our uniform and the dress standard of our students. Safety around the school in the morning and afternoon. Parents please be mindful of the safety of all children when dropping them off at the school. Do not stop your car on Windsor Road to let your child out in front of the school. This is a NO STOPPING ZONE. When picking up your child in the afternoon please be mindful of the residents of Annabelle Crescent. New parking signs have been erected by the council. If your child is not waiting for you when you are in the pick up area please drive around the block. There is a maximum time to stay in the pick up area. Police and council rangers patrol the area and will book you. A Special Evening for Parents A reminder that Ian Lillicoe will be presenting his talk to parents on Boys Education at our school tonight at 6.30pm. Please come along. The meeting will be in the Connected Classroom which is inside the library. Mrs Hocking Relieving Deputy Principal KELLYVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL This Thursday, April 26th our Kellyville Public School Cross Country Carnival will be held at school, weather permitting. Students need to wear their sports uniform, apply sunscreen and bring their recess and lunch. The canteen will be open for drinks and ice blocks only. Students in Years 3-6 must return their permission note to be able to compete. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to assist with the 3-6 carnival. Your help is most appreciated. On the day please meet Mr Easton and Mrs Boatswain on the lower court at 8.50am for a carnival briefing. Any other parents who would like to assist are welcome to join us at this time. ANZAC 2012 On Wednesday 25 April, we stop to remember and reflect on the sacrifice of men and women who serve and have served our nation in times of war and peace. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. Veterans of the past proudly display their medals; soldiers of today boldly wear their uniforms. At Kellyville Public School we honour them and the families who supported them. We remember their service for our nation through: An ANZAC display to raise student and community awareness Captains attend the Combined Schools ANZAC Service: War Memorial Hyde Park Kellyville Public School ANZAC service Participation in the Castle Hill RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service Captains at the Hyde Park Service with Mr David Phipps Western Sydney Regional Director School Captains with Mr James Murray Laying Flowers at Hyde Park Service www.kellyville-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Page 3
