Dear Parents and Caregivers Survey Results Thank you to the families who participated in the recent school survey. The information provided will assist in developing and improving services to parents. As a result, the school is undertaking a business study to explore the feasibility of before and afterschool care for 2018. In addition, key staff and parents are involved in developing a communications policy. This will assist how we collectively can communicate with families in a range of mediums, whilst celebrating the rich and diverse learning experiences at St Francis Xavier. Micro: bits Arrive at St Francis Xavier What are Micro: bits? They are tiny handheld programmable computers which are used to support students development and understanding of coding. They have small Led lights, motion sensors and are capable of integrating with other devices via cable or Bluetooth. In enrichment, some of our Year Four students have been working with Micro: bits to create a pedometer. We look forward to sharing their success and introducing this new technology to other classes in future terms. http://microbit.org/ Staffing I am excited to announce that Karen Valenti has successfully been appointed in the Kindergarten positon commencing term two. RELIGION Value of the Week INCLUSIVITY Over the past two weeks the school has focused on the value of Inclusivity. Inclusivity is the quality of trying to include many different types of people and treat them all fairly and equally, and not excluding people on the grounds of gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, etc. At St Francis Xavier Primary we show Inclusivity for ourselves, others and the community by: Taking advantage of opportunities to become involved. Including others in all you do. Being friendly and caring to others. Throughout the Gospels Jesus gives us clear instructions about how to include all other people and to treat them equally. Commandments such as Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others. He also left us with his great commandment Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Interschool Swimming Carnival Last Wednesday evening a team of 34 students from year 4 6 represented the school at the Interschool Swimming Carnival held at the Aquarena. A fantastic performance by everybody on the team saw us place in every race. A very close contest with Grammar had everyone on the team putting in 100%. All members of the team should be extremely proud of how they represented themselves and the school. Several students had an outstanding carnival and were awarded with medals at the end. Mathijs Travasso won Champion year 4 boy, Rhama Evans Champion year 5 boy, Rangga Evans runner up year 6 boy and Maggie Spiers dragged herself out of the sick bed to be awarded 3rd place in the year 6 girls. Unfortunately, despite the great effort and being dominant in the relays, Grammar held on to win by a very small margin of 26 points. Final Scores: 1st Grammar 1066pts 2nd St Francis 1040pts 3rd St Lawrence 871pts 4th Strathalbyn 837pts 5th St Johns 680pts Thanks to all the parents who came along to support the team and especially to those that helped out with jobs.
