Executive Summary 1 The paper reports recommendations from Advisory Appointments Committees and informs the Board of actions taken under delegated authority and any recent signing and sealing of documents. Recommendation: 2 The Trust Board is asked to note the approval of the recommendations from the Advisory Appointment Committees that have been given under delegated authority and to note the signings that have been undertaken in line with the Trust s Standing Orders since the last report to the Trust Board at its meeting on Wednesday 9 July 2014. Advisory Appointments Committee Recommendations The Board is asked to note that the Chief Executive, under delegated authority, has approved the following:- 1. An advisory appointments committee met on 19 June 2014 chaired by Mr Chris Goard, Non-Executive Director, to interview for a consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics. This was to convert a locum post to a substantive post. The committee interviewed three candidates and recommended the following appointment on a date yet to be confirmed. 1.1 Mr Stephen Gwilym MBBS, BSc, DPhil, FRCS (Orthopaedics). Mr Gwilym is currently employed as a Locum consultant at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. The mentors assigned to Mr Gwilym are Mr Stuart Matthews and Professor Andrew Carr. 2. An advisory appointments committee met on 17 June 2014 chaired by Mr Geoffrey Salt, Non-Executive Director, to interview for a consultant in Specialist Surgery / Cleft. This is a replacement post. The committee interviewed two candidates and recommended the following appointment on a date yet to be confirmed. 2.1 Mr Marc Swan DPhil, FRCS (Plast). Mr Swan is currently employed as a Cleft Interface Fellow at the Great Ormond Street Hospital London. The Mentors assigned to Mr Swan are Mr Tim Goodacre and Mr Andrew Currie. 3. An advisory appointments committee met on 10 July 2014 chaired by Dame Fiona Caldicott, Chairman of the Trust, to interview for a consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in ENT and Emergency Work. The committee interviewed three candidates and recommended the following appointment on a date yet to be confirmed. 3.1 Dr Claire Winterborn MBBS (Lond), BSc (Hons), FRCA (Lond). Dr Winterborn is currently employed as a Locum Consultant for the Oxford University Hospitals Trust. The mentor assigned to Dr Winterborn will be Dr Simon Yarrow. 4. An advisory appointments committee met on 2 July 2014, chaired by Mr Chris Goard, Non-Executive Director, to interview for two Consultants in Paediatric Rheumatology (Lead). These are replacement posts. The committee interviewed two candidates and recommended the following appointments on a date yet to be confirmed. 4.1 Dr Kathryn Bailey MBBS, MRCP (UK) Paediatrics. Dr Bailey is currently employed as a consultant paediatric rheumatologist at Coventry and Warwickshire by the George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton. 4.2 Dr Alison Kelly MBBS, BSc, MRCPCH. Dr Kelly is currently employed as a Consultant at the Bristol Royal Hospital. The mentor assigned to Dr Kelly will be Dr Joel David. 5. An advisory appointments committee met on 8 July 2014, chaired by Professor David Mant, Non-Executive Director, to interview for a consultant orthopaedic hand surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. This is a replacement post. The committee interviewed four candidates and recommended the following appointment on a date yet to be confirmed. 5.1 Mr Jeremy Loveridge, MBBS, FRCS, T&O. Mr Loveridge is currently employed as a consultant at Cairns hospital, Queensland, Australia. The mentor assigned to Mr Loveridge will be Mr Chris Little. 6. An advisory appointments committee met on 22 July 2014, chaired by Mr Peter Ward, Non-Executive Director, to interview for a consultant in Anaesthetics with an interest in Vascular, UGI and Pre-Assessment, and a Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Vascular and Maxillofacial surgery. These are a mixture of new posts and converting locum posts to substantive. The committee interviewed five candidates, and recommended the following appointments on a date yet to be confirmed. Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Vascular and Maxillofacial surgery: 6.1. Dr Amisha Burumdayal MB, ChB, FRCA. Dr Burumdayal is currently employed by the Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust as a locum consultant. The mentor assigned to Dr Burumdayal will be Dr Shaun Scott. Consultant in Anaesthetics with an interest in Vascular, UGI and Pre-Assessment: 6.2 Dr Catherine Atkinson MB BChir, MRCP, FRCA, EDRA. Dr Atkinson is currently employed by the Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust as a locum consultant. The mentor assigned to Dr Atkinson will be Dr Jonathan Mason. 7. An advisory appointments committee met on 24 July 2014, chaired by Mr Chris Goard, Non-Executive director, to interview for two consultants in Anaesthetics with an interest in Transplant and Gynaecological Oncology. These are to convert locum posts to substantive. The committee interviewed two candidates, and recommended the following appointments on a date yet to be confirmed. 7.1 Dr Godwin D Souza MBBS, FRCA, EDRA. Dr D Souza was previously a locum consultant at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust but left in April as this was the end of his Locum post. The mentor assigned to Dr D Souza will be Dr Sabeena Sharma. 7.2 Dr Mark Scarfe MB, BCHIR, MA, FRCA. Dr Scarfe is currently an SPR at the Oxford University Hospitals Trust. 8. An advisory appointments committee met on 22 July, chaired by Mr Chris Goard, Non- Executive Director, to interview for a consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Vascular and Maxillofacial work. This is to convert a locum post to a substantive post. The committee interviewed 5 candidates and recommended the following appointment on a date yet to be confirmed. 8.2 Dr Corrina Hughes BM, (Hons), FRCA. Dr Hughes is currently employed as a specialist registrar at the Oxford University Hospitals Trust. The mentor assigned to Dr Hughes will be Dr Jag Halder. Signature and Sealing of Documents To note the following signings undertaken in line with the Trust s standing orders Ref Document Action 13/14 The Trust are entering into a lease for the Rectory Centre, Rectory Road, Oxford for the provision of the combined sexual health contract. Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust are the Landlord and have agreed for some works to be carried out on the building in order to make the premises fit for purpose. In order to ensure consistency with the main PFI agreement, this document should take the form of a deed. Recommendation The Trust Board is asked to note the approvals given under delegated authority to the recommendations from the Advisory Appointment Committees for Medical Consultants, and to note the signings that have been undertaken in line with the Trust s Standing Orders since the last report to the Trust Board at its meeting on Wednesday 9 July 2014.
