Week of October 31 November 4, 2016 October 31, 2016 Happy Halloween! A big THANK YOU to Sara, Kelly, Ann, Diana and Becky for planning and helping out at our party on Friday. It was the perfect amount of time with exciting activities to go along with it. The kids had a grand time at all of the stations. Hopefully most of you were able to get away to watch the parade. Happy Trick-or-Treating tonight. Our next party is Thursday, December 22. It will start after recess and conclude at the end of the day. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer for that party. November is Math Fluency month. This is a new activity this year. Please plan to spend forty minutes, per week, on a math fact activity. Initial the fluency calendar every time your child spends time ten minutes practicing. There is an informational letter coming home tomorrow with a calendar and a list of web sites and games that will help your child build math fluency. Second grade is focusing on addition through 12. Please let me know if you have any questions. Children who are proficient and hand in the calendar will bring home a Papa Murphy s certificate. November is also Movember. At the end of the month the kids will be able to purchase a mustache for $1.00. the money raised will be donated to prostate cancer research. The men in the building typically do not shave until December! Please send in clothing for the Vets if you get a chance. Every little bit helps the very men and women who have served in the armed services to keep our country free. Socks, underwear, shirts, pants, etc. are all appreciated. Thank you.

Keep those reading minutes coming! They are getting better each week. Thanks for sending back the reading homework each week. That gets counted and recorded on the Homework section of the report card. The kids love to use different voices at school! Thanks again for sending your child to school each and every morning ready to learn. This is a great group of kids and I feel fortunate to see them every day. Have a marvelous week. Please jot down the number of minutes read daily and write the total minutes per week when you send the folder back on Monday. Children are invited to bring a water bottle to school if desired, but soda, juices and other beverages are not allowed in our classroom. Thanks for your help! Shoes, layering for varied room temperature Shoes, etc.: Please help your child remember to have appropriate shoes. It is also a good idea to either send a sweater or a sweatshirt with your child each day, or have him/her keep one at school. Even during the cold weather, our classroom can be very chilly. I encourage layers of clothing! Please send warm clothes for the weather outside.
