Drive Time Frequently Asked Questions Q: What do I need to bring to my drive time? A: Bring your instructional permit. Students CAN NOT drive without their permit on them. Photocopies and reproductions are not acceptable. If you arrive at a drive time without your permit, you will observe and be charged a "no show" fee of $45. Also, if your permit requires glasses or contacts to correct your vision, you CAN NOT drive without your glasses or contacts. Not having your corrective lenses will result in a "no show" fee being assessed whether the student observes or not. Lastly, students need to wear shoes that cover their foot. Open toe shoes and sandals are ok if they have a strap around the heel. Students who arrive at their drive time with improper shoes will be assessed a "no show" fee. Maverick Driving Academy needs to leave promptly when the drive time begins and can not wait for these items to be corrected. We also cannot meet you on the road. Please arrive at your drive time prepared to drive. Q: When can I schedule a drive time? A: As soon as the student receives their permit and registers their permit number with MDA, they may register with schedule2drive and begin scheduling their driving lessons. A part 2: Driving lessons are only scheduled online through Schedule 2 Drive. Student's have six months to complete driving lessons (both driving & observation). Students are expected to log on and check for drive time avaliability on a regular basis. Q: How often can I drive? A: Drive times are scheduled on a first-come, first served basis a week at a time. The ability level of every student is different and students may need additional time to practice the skills covered in the in-car lessons. We advise 3-4 hours of practice with parents for every driving lesson with MDA. This way, students are almost finished with their 20-hour driving log when they complete their 7th lesson (a driving test with MDA). Parents, Find driving tips under parent info tab. Q: How do I schedule a drive time? A: Use your username/permit number and birthdate to sign into Schedule 2 Drive and sign up for an avaliable time. Please be 5-10 minutes early for your drive time as our

drivers need to leave when the time begins. Q: How many lessons do I need and how long are they? A: The TEA (Texas Education Agency) requires students complete 7 driving lessons which are two hours each. During each driving lesson, the student will drive for 1 hour and observe another student driver for 1 hour. Q: When are the drive times? A: Drive times are available at various times throughout the week and on weekends and holidays. Drive times are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis, and are subject to the availability of a driving instructor and a car. The instructors post their avaliable drive times as soon as they know their schedule. Q: All the drive times are full, what do I do? A: New drive times are released on Saturdays in the noon hour for the following week. Please check schedule2drive daily for new openings added when an instructor has new and unexpected avaliability and when other students cancel. Maverick Driving Academy typically offers 48+ hours of drive time per week during the school year and 80+ hours per week in the summer. Check back often because other students cancel drive times they cannot make. Q: If the weather is bad, do we still drive? A: We will drive in all types of weather conditions. We will not drive when the National Weather Service has issued any warning for any type of severe weather in Johnson County. Please call our office (817-556-4644) for driving updates. Q: I need to cancel/change a drive time. What should I do? A: When you schedule a driving lesson, you are reserving a car and an instructor. Another student is also counting on you for their observation hour. If you need to cancel or a lesson, log onto Schedule 2 drive and cancel your drive time. Make sure that you cancel your drive time at least 24 hours in advance to avoid the fee. Students who fail to cancel their drive times will be assessed a missed lesson fee of $35.00. Please make sure you can make your appointment before scheduling drive times. Policies
