SECONDARY SNAPSHOT Ag Studies: Students have been learning about and comparing breeds of sheep in the Balonne Shire. Did you know that the Dorper breed of sheep originated from South Africa where the climate is very similar to the hot, dry and harsh conditions around Dirranbandi sometimes? They are a breed of sheep grown for meat. On the 28 th February (week 6), students in Years 7-10 will be undertaking an excursion to Jakelwar to develop skills in safe sheep handling and husbandry techniques. Further information and permission forms have been handed out in class. Forms are due back on Monday 26 th February. Science: Students have been planning and conducting a range of experiments in science this term. In Year 7/8 students have been investigating how to separate mixtures using a range of different instruments in the science lab. In Year 9/10 students have been investigating heat as a source of energy and how it can be transferred between spaces and objects. Students have started their mid-term assessments in week 4 by conducting their own experiments to demonstrate their skills in scientific writing.
