The Scorekeeper must be notified of a substitution. COACHES On Quiz day, women should coach all-girls teams. Men should coach all-boys teams. Coed teams may be coached by either. Upon arrival at the Quiz site, the coach signs in the team and picks up the ID signs. Must attend the Coach s meeting held before Quiz begins. After Quiz begins, the coach may counsel quizzers between segments or during substitutions. QUIZ FORMATS Multiple Choice o One or two clubbers from each team may participate. o Ten questions will be asked of each book group. o Questions and possible answers will be read twice. o There will be three answers from which to choose (A, B, or C). o Quizzers use A-B-C paddles to indicate their answer. o Quizzers must look down at their paddles during each question/answer reading and answer selection time. o Any quizzer looking around will be disqualified from that question. o When finished reading the Quizmaster will say, Select your answers. o Quizzers will have five seconds to determine their choice of answers. o At the call Paddles up all quizzers will raise their paddles simultaneously. o Quizzers raising their paddles late may be disqualified from that question. o Quizzers may not change their paddles after the Paddles up call. o At the Paddles down call, quizzers will place their paddles in their paddle holder. o Scoring: Each correct answer = 10 points, perfect score total = 100 points Written Quiz o Each clubber completes a 10-question test (fill-in-the-blank, matching, etc.) o The Quizmaster will first read each question as clubbers follow along. o Clubbers will have 15 seconds to write their answer to each question. o If a question needs explanation, Coaches or quizzers may ask for clarification as soon as the Quizmaster finishes reading it. o Five extra minutes will be given at the end of the Written Test for clubbers to finish or review their answers. No clarification of questions is allowed during this time. o Cheating observed by Quiz staff will result in a test score of zero. o Tests will be given to Coaches or Scorekeepers for grading. o No test may be returned to clubber after it has been given to his/her Coach. o Coaches will sit with their team. o No spectators are allowed. o Scoring: Each correct answer = 10 points, perfect score total = 100 points o Answers must be totally correct. o Leniency is given in spelling o Only the top two scores are added to the team total.

SPEED QUIZ o One or two clubbers will compete for their team. o Clubbers compete against others in their book group using Jeopardy type buttons. o 15 questions per book group will be given. o Quizmaster will repeat the question if no one attempts to answer after the first reading. o The first quizzer activating his/her light must give an answer. o A quizzer has 10 seconds to begin their answer after he/she is recognized and is in position to answer. o 30 additional seconds are given to complete the answer. o After a quizzer is recognized, no additional help can be given. o Judges will take into consideration the length of the answer and the clubber s fluency. Judges will not cut a quizzer off in the middle of an answer unless he/she is having trouble with it. o After an answer is given the Quizmaster will say, Is that you answer? This is to get a commitment from the quizzer that his/her answer is the one he/she wants the Judges to rule on. Quizzers may change their answer if they wish to do so, and if time remains. The last answer given is the one ruled correct or incorrect. o If the first answer is incorrect, the team buzzing in second must answer the question for half points. The Quizmaster will reread the question. The quizzer has five seconds to begin answering. o If a quizzer responds before a question is completed, the Quizmaster will stop. The quizzer must then give a correct specific answer. o Giving two wrong answers (called a Two Question Quiz Out ) disqualifies a clubber from answering any further Speed Quiz questions. An alternate may take their place. o Answering three questions correctly (called a Three Question Quiz Out ) eliminates clubber from further Speed quizzing. Clubbers will receive bonus points and they must leave the platform. An alternate may take their place. o Scoring: Each first buzz-in correct answer = 20 points Each second buzz-in correct answer = 10 points Each first buzz-in incorrect answer = -10 points Each second buzz-in incorrect answer = -5 points Three answered correctly = 20 bonus points

QUESTIONS Questions will be taken from Discoveries 1-6 in the Red and Blue (Ultimate Adventure 1 and 2) Books, and Challenges 1-6 in Green and Yellow (Ultimate Challenge 1 and 2) Books. Start Zone questions will only be included with the Red Book. Questions may be from Scripture readings, handbook illustrations and information, stories, poems, definitions, review sections, etc. There will not be any questions from Silver or Gold sections or jokes and silly stuff. SAMPLE QUESTIONS Verse quotations: Recite Romans 6:23 Verse completion: Give the reference and complete this verse: For all have sinned Books of the Bible: Which book of the Bible comes after Joel? Key word/phase: Give the reference and quote the verse that contains this phrase: we should live soberly, righteously, and godly Multiple Choice: Hebrews 12:6-7 says: o A-God disciplines us because He loves us o B-God disciplines us because we deserve it o C-God disciplines us to teach us a lesson Definitions: What word in Ephesians 2:9 means good things I do? Reference location: Give the reference to this verse: For God so loved Verse questions: How is the heart described in Jeremiah 17:9? ANSWERS Reading questions: From your reading in Mark 14, who went to the chief priests to betray Jesus? Reciting from or Using words from means the answer must be a quotation from the verse. Thinking about means the answer can be in the quizzer s own words, but must be close to what the handbook states. According to means the answer must be according to the verse or handbook item mentioned in the question. It does not have to be word perfect. For example, Question: According to Acts 16:31, what happens to those who believe? Answer: They will be saved. Not: The will have eternal life.

Scripture verses must be recited word perfect and must include the complete reference, unless the reference was given in the question. A or B in a reference is not required. Answers that contain extraneous information may be considered incorrect, even if the correct answer is included. For example, Question: Reciting from John 3:16, whom does God love? Answer: The world. If the quizzer recites the whole verse it is counted wrong. They did not give a specific answer. APPEALS Only official Coaches may challenge a question or answer. They may do so by calling Question before the next question is asked. The Coach will confer privately with the Quizmaster and Judges Other Coaches may listen but are not permitted to speak, unless requested. All Coaches should return to their seats, letting the Quizmaster and Judges make the final decision. No appeals can be made on appeals.
