Frequently Asked Questions B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) Q. What is Cluster Innovation Centre? Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) is a centre set up by the University of Delhi with the objective of fostering an ecosystem of innovation and connecting research with application for the benefit of society. The aim of the CIC is to support application oriented research to solve real world problems by developing ideas into innovative applications successfully. Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) fosters an environment of innovation and facilitates collaborations and partnerships with industry, academia and other segments of society. Q. What is B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences)? B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) is a 3-year UG degree course offered by the Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi under metacollege college concept in which a student has the freedom to design his/her own course/degree by choosing different papers of his/her choice/interest from different disciplines. Project work is an important component of this degree. Each semester (from 2 nd to 5 th semesters) every student has to do a compulsory semester-long group project which involves field work and report writing, thus fostering the culture of research at undergraduate level. The student has to choose from the four streams offered in this course. The concept of this course can be summarized as: 1. Design your own degree 2. Hands-on group projects, virtual learning, internships 3. Learn beyond the classroom 4. Connect education with society and industry 5. Inter/trans-disciplinarity for holistic education Q. What do you mean by meta-college concept? Under meta-college concept a student taking admission in B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) will get an opportunity to study for four semesters (2 nd to 5 th ) in any college of the University of Delhi (with mentor s consent) with a maximum of 2 semesters in the same college (that means a

student can go to college X for only 2 semesters). However, Semester 1 and semester 6 will be taught at CIC only. Meta College concept allows: 1. Pooling of resources from Delhi University colleges 2. Flexibility of learning system 3. Breaking disciplinary boundaries 4. Systematic mentoring 5. Compulsory project work 6. Hands-on demo of innovative ideas 7. Solutions for real life problems 8. Dynamic pedagogy & experiential learning Q. What do you mean by streams and which four streams are offered at CIC? A stream is basically meant to impart knowledge in a particular field using multi-disciplinary approach. It helps you to prepare yourself for further exploration in the field at higher level. The four streams offered under this course are: 1. Art & Design 2. Counseling 3.Historical Tourism 4. Journalism. A student of a particular stream has to take at least 4 papers related to the chosen stream. Q. Is it compulsory to take a stream? Yes. It is mandatory for each student to take a particular stream. Students will be divided among these four streams. The criteria for assigning a particular stream will be decided at the time of admission but merit list of entrance test result and continuous evaluation of at least one semester will be taken into consideration. Q. What kinds of projects are undertaken by the students? All projects undertaken by students have to be socially relevant which try to solve the problems of society especially in slums and villages. These projects are aimed at social innovation and social intervention. Most of the projects are carried out in collaboration with governmental or non-governmental organizations like Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Aman Biradari, Delhi Police, National Deaf Society etc. Q. Who is a mentor?

A mentor is a teacher who guides students in their semester-long projects and course selection of different disciplines and colleges. Q. What are the minimum eligibility criteria for taking admission in B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences)? Eligibility for the application in the entrance test: A minimum aggregate marks at 10+2 level as follows (those who have appeared for the qualifying exam may also appear) General category : 60 % in four subjects (including English/MIL) OBC category : 54% in four subjects (including English/MIL) PH/ CW category : 57% in four subjects (including English/MIL) SC/ST category : Passing marks (including English/MIL) Students will be admitted according to the merit list prepared on the basis of the marks secured in the entrance test. Q. Will my admission depend upon my percentage at 10+2 level / 12 th / Senior Secondary level? Your admission to the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course will solely depend upon your merit in entrance test examination. Q. How many seats are offered in this course? There are 40 seats in B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences). They are distributed as General Category 20 seats OBC Category 11 seats SC Category 6 seats ST Category 3 seats TOTAL 40 seats Q. What is the syllabus for Entrance Examination? There is no specific prescribed syllabus for the entrance examination. The written entrance test of two hours duration will be Multiple Choice Questions on General Awareness, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Communication Skills (English/Hindi), Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability. Q. Can a student from science (PCB / PCM) apply for this course? Yes, any student who has passed his/her class 12 th in any stream (humanities / commerce / science / social science, etc) is eligible to take admission in this course.

Q. My class 12 result is still awaited. Can I sit for the entrance test? Yes, if your result is awaited you can still apply for this course and sit for the entrance test. However you will have to produce your passing certificate at the time of admission and if you fulfill the prescribed eligibility you can take admission to the course. Q. What will be the duration of the entrance test in B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) offered at CIC? The entrance test will be of 2 hour duration. Q. I have passed my class 12 th exam before 2016. Am I eligible to apply? Yes students who have passed their 10 + 2 level examinations before 2016 and satisfy the eligibility conditions can apply for this course. Q. What is the age limit for a student who wishes to apply for B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences)? There is no age bar for the student to apply for this course. Q. In order to appear for the entrance test, will a student have to take prior admission in any course of the University Of Delhi? No, any student who has passed his/her 10 + 2 level examination or whose result is awaited can apply online to appear for the written entrance test. Q. Will there be an interview for the selection procedure for the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course? No, there will be no interview for the selection procedure for the session 2016 2017. Q. From where can one get the previous question paper the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course? The previous years question papers are posted on the website of Cluster Innovation Centre (ducic.ac.in) Q. What is the course structure of the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course? The detailed course structure and the course content is available at ducic.ac.in. Q. What is the fee structure of the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course?

The fee * for the course is Rs. 5000/- per semester and Rs.1000/- which is refundable (Library Security) one time. *The fees is subject to change. Q. When and where will be the entrance test for admission for 2016-17 session held? The date of entrance will be announced by the University of Delhi. Q. When will the result of written exam the B.A. Honours (Humanities & Social Sciences) course be declared? That will be notified after the entrance test. Q. What will be the pattern of the entrance exam? The written exam will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions. Q. Will there be negative marking? Yes. Each correct answer will be awarded + 4 marks whereas for a wrong answer the students shall be deducted 1 mark. No marks will be deducted for an unattempted question. Q. Is hostel facility available for students? Yes, hostel facility is provided to a limited number of students only on the basis of merit/rank in entrance test examination and continuous evaluation throughout the course. Q. How does this degree foster the culture of research at UG level? This course has project work as a compulsory component. Students are usually expected to identify social problems and go on field survey to collect the primary data. Students then work out solutions for resolving the problems. Q. What about the placements? The aim of this degree is to nurture entrepreneurship. CIC also has an incubation centre.
