dominknow LCMS 5 The dominknow LCMS 5 is a web-based learning content management tool that will help you develop and manage learning products. The dominknow LCMS is AICC and SCORM compliant and works with all third-party Learning Management Systems. It integrates seamlessly with the dominknow Learning Center. The dominknow LCMS has been built around a dynamic content model, in which learning content is developed separately from navigation and course structure. This means that content can be created without any need for programming knowledge, making online learning development easy for non-technical team members, as well as easily changed and updated with minimal maintenance effort and costs. Content can also easily be reused in other courses as well as in other delivery formats, from offline models such as CD-ROM to mobile learning on the iphone and ipod Touch, Blackberry, Palm and Android devices, for example. The dominknow LCMS can be deployed in a hosted model or behind an organization s firewall, helping developers work together whether they are in the same building or on different continents. 2

Integrated content authoring The dominknow LCMS s Authoring Tool combines a template-based approach with sophisticated features to meet your e-learning development needs. The library of templates will help any content developer begin creating instructionally-sound learning content quickly. The text editor offers an intuitive interface, while the asset manager takes care of importing multimedia files (static images, video, audio, Flash movies, etc.) and also tracking their use across pages and course projects. The authoring tool features a non-programming approach to adding interactivity to pages, from hyperlinks to buttons that trigger other events. This allows non-programmers to easily create highly engaging learning experiences such as branching and decision-based exercises. The authoring tool also includes: Integrated image editor Glossary features Global text search and replace Export for translation option Print-version generation Inline audio recording wizard for narration on pages Inline video recording wizard Experienced developers can extend the authoring tool s capabilities by working in Java Script. By centralizing the development process in a single location, the authoring tool also simplifies the process of updating changes to online courses, providing the ability to quickly update pages and provide them to the learning audience. 3

Use and management of legacy content The dominknow LCMS allows developers to assemble learning content created in the authoring tool or in many desktop programs. Content can be created in tools such as PowerPoint, Word, HTML, Dreamweaver, Flash, Captivate, and Acrobat (PDF). A PowerPoint wizard makes converting slide decks into courses easy and fast. Searchable knowledge repositories manage learning content, which is tagged for easy reference and retrieval. Controllable inheritance offers the ability to perform global updates on content. Developers have the ability to use, re-use, and re-purpose existing content throughout the organization speeding development and ensuring consistency and accuracy of information. 4

Creation of tests and assessments The dominknow LCMS s customizable assessments and surveys measure knowledge transfer and success. The assessment engine uses a wizard-based interface to allow easy creation of questions tied directly to topic- and task-based learning objects, ensuring that testing is aligned with the instructional design of the course content. Testing options include reviews for practice exercises as well as pre-and post-testing. Pre-testing offers several levels of adaptive learning options. Testing delivery includes the random selection of test questions for presentation to each student with the effect that tests can be varied in order to help eliminate cheating. Test results are fully tracked and are available through permissions to both learners and administrators. The dominknow LCMS also includes survey and polling tools. 5

Collaboration and workflow management The dominknow LCMS workflow management tools facilitate sound instructional design and development processes. Task and project management capabilities that speed development allow developers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to work individually or collaboratively on a learning project managing all aspects of the content development process. Developers and SMEs located together or geographically dispersed can easily share and manage content development by leveraging dominknow s quality assurance and tracking tools, including sophisticated search, version control, access restriction, check-in and checkout, and final approval features. The Design Notes feature allows reviewers to enter comments about specific pages within a course while viewing the course as a student would in Learning Mode. All design notes are tracked and searchable. Course Design Notes are compiled into a task-tracking list for follow up after the review period, and include the ability to track issue resolutions so everyone can follow the development progress. The Approvals tool allows developers to assign and receive approval requests, and track the completion of these requests to ensure that reviews and approvals are completed on time. Course developers, administrators and students can stay informed about changes made to courses without having to log into the dominknow LCMS. All participants in the course life cycle can keep up with changes using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) developer reports. 6

Controls to ensure content safety and integrity The dominknow LCMS is a permission-based system with the ability to create multiple administrators with different levels of access and control. Managing users, developers, content and reports is easy with dominknow s sophisticated administrative tools. A check in/check out system protects learning content from being worked on by multiple developers at the same time, preventing accidental overwriting. The check in/check out system includes developer-input forms for recording changes that have been made. The LCMS s version history tracks information about every update or change made to an existing course or Learning Object, including what the update was and which administrator made the change. This information can be viewed by learning object and includes the comments posted when the learning object was checked back in to the course. Course archiving allows the capture of a course as it exists at a specific moment in time, preserving a copy before changes are made. Courses can be rolled back to archived versions at any time. The dominknow LCMS s bandwidth report allows developers to identify course pages that may present issues to learners with low bandwidth connections, helping ensure that thee-learning course is successful upon launch. The LCMS also tracks and reports on every use of a Learning Object, making it easy to identify the courses that share a specific Learning Object, for instance. This helps ensure that changes are controlled and applied only to courses that require the change. 7

Standards-compliance and compatibility Compliance with learning industry standards is a key element of the dominknow LCMS, protecting your investment in e-learning now and in the future. The dominknow LCMS is SCORM 1.2 and 2004 compliant. Courses can be published knowing they will be viable for years to come. In addition, the dominknow LCMS is compliant to the Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC) standard as well as the Package Exchange Notification Services (PENS) standard. Adherence to these standards helps ensure that online courses developed in the dominknow LCMS meet e-learning industry standards and can function properly in conjunction with any third-party Learning Management System that also complies with these standards. The dominknow LCMS application programming interface (API) also allows integration of the dominknow LCMS with existing human resource, learning management, performance support systems and more. 8
