SKCTC Administrative Units and Multi-Year Goals Unit Name Director/Administrator Academic Support Services Erin Reasor Mission Statement: The mission of the Academic Support Center is to provide students with a variety of free tools and services to develop the learning and academic skills needed to become a successful student. The services offered also help students understand and adapt to the demands of college life. 1. To increase the use of Academic Support Centers on all five campuses by faculty and students. 2. To provide tutors on all 5 campuses to help students in the basic courses. Adult Basic Education Travis Cox Mission Statement: Provide high level learning experiences to enable students to meet college and career readiness goals. 1. To provide academic skill instruction to prepare adults to pass the GED. 2. To assist adults in improving their educational attainment levels in order to enter employment or continue education. 3. To provide instruction to adults in life skills, employability skills, and computer literacy. 4. To partner with the college to provide developmental education in Reading. 5. To test literacy and academic skill levels of college students and provide resources for targeted supplemental instruction in those skills. Academic Affairs Lige Buell (Interim) Mission Statement: The Academic Affairs mission is to improve the quality of life and employability of the citizens of the Commonwealth by serving as the primary provider of: College and Workforce Readiness Transfer Education Workforce Education and Training 1. To provide developmental curricula and courses that prepare students for collegiate-level studies. 2. To provide liberal arts programming suitable for transfer to baccalaureate degrees. 3. To provide technical programming that meets employment needs or improves lifelong-learning skills. 4. To provide dual credit programming to the service area high schools. 5. Advancement Scott Sherman Mission Statement: To lead and coordinate the College s fundraising efforts, including donations and the acquisition of grants. Also manage the College s Foundation. 1. To provide leadership and coordination for all district fundraising and advancement initiatives.

Allied Health & Related Technologies Mike Good Mission Statement: To provide academic programs and individual courses in the Allied Health areas for students to earn a degree or certificate and enter the workforce in an Allied Health profession. 1. Provide a high standard of educational excellence while meeting the health care needs of the area. 2. Provide Allied Health programming in response to community needs. 3. To seek official transfer agreements with senior institutions and accommodate special economic, culturally diverse, and developmental needs of the area. Business Affairs Angela Simpson Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Office of Business Affairs to provide excellent service and support in a manner that promotes efficient and effective use of financial resources while engaging in sound business practices. 1. To maintain accurate and current information regarding payment policy and payment options available to students. 2. To assist and provide business services that foster student success. 3. To provide custody, accountability, receipt and disbursement of restricted and unrestricted funds. 4. To provide effective and efficient financial management services for the college. Communications, Humanities, & Fine Arts Terry Ann Maciula Mission Statement: To provide courses and academic programming in Communications, Humanities, and Fine Arts for students who wish to transfer to a 4-year institution or who wish to enter into the workforce upon graduation. 1. To expose students to a variety of cultural experiences for lifelong learning necessary for living in a constantly changing society; 2. To provide sufficient breadth and depth in the curriculum to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students; 3. To ensure that humanities students are men and women who are intellectually flexible, articulate, creative, and prepared for continuous growth; 4. To assure that graduates can demonstrate some understanding of the liberal arts; 5. To assist students to develop their own values, to pursue goals, and to contribute to the social and cultural enrichment of society; 6. To provide alternative approaches for humanities courses. Developmental Education Erin Wilson Mission Statement: To provide courses, programming, and support services to students who come to SKCTC academically underprepared.
1. To increase the successful completion of developmental education courses. 2. To monitor and track developmental students throughout their developmental sequence using Developmental Education advisors. 3. To increase developmental student interaction and learning though study groups and peer instructional assistants. 4. To provide opportunities for developmental instructors to attend the Kellogg Institute and be trained as Developmental Education Specialists. 5. Diversity & Inclusion Carolyn Sundy Mission Statement: Mission is to assure that SKCTC is an inclusive, culturally competent organization to assist in leading campus capacity building activities and programs, and align diversity plans with college strategic and business plans. 1. Recognize diversity as a vital component in the region s educational and economic development. 2. Affirm the long-standing commitment that Kentucky s African American students are represented at the public colleges and universities. 3. Challenge stereotypes and promote awareness and inclusion. 4. Industrial Technology Ronnie Daniels Mission Statement: To provide course task/objectives and general education competencies for each course listed in the program, encouraging student activities, and a close working relationship with the college through Student Governance. Allowing the student to enter the workforce with an entry-level knowledge of operations, diagnostics and hands-on repair. 1. To assist students in making a smooth transition to college life by providing quality instruction with up-to-date equipment and knowledge. 2. To have program Coordinators available for student advising on a regular basis. 3. To assist and support students in their educational career and personal development while they are affiliated with SKCTC. 4. To provide adequate services for special needs students. 5. To provide accurate and current information about local Industry needs, while utilizing that information in each program curriculum allowing students a smoother transition into the workforce. 6. To provide course objectives and general education competencies for each course, encouraging student activities and a close working relationship with the college administration through the Student Government Association. Information Technology Merrill Galloway Mission Statement: Provide vision and leadership in the conceptualization, planning and implementation of total technology solutions for the district, emphasizing consistency and standard delivery of services to support the administrative, academic, and operational needs of the college. Develop and maintain technical standards and usage policies focusing on continuous improvement of service levels and facilities for all existing and new technology developments. Assess technology needs and develop global solutions focusing on enhanced services and facilities to meet the academic, administrative and institutional objectives of the faculty, staff and students of a district. 1. The IT department will assist faculty in providing a diverse student population with an outstanding education, noted in student-oriented approach to teaching and learning, and responsive to technological innovation and state-of-the-art teaching methods. 2. Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Rick C. Mason Mission Statement: The purpose of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness is to support and sustain college-wide continuous improvement efforts at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. This will be accomplished by using relevant and appropriate information to support assessment, informed decision making, and policy formation. Continuous improvement efforts at the College will be sustained through ongoing, comprehensive and integrated planning and evaluation related to the direction and expected outcomes of our academic programs, student learning outcomes, and educational and administrative support services. 1. Facilitate SKCTC s strategic planning and assessment initiatives with emphasis on supporting its mission and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System s goals, measures, and targets. 2. Assist with the identification of goals for assessment on an annual basis and key indicators of performance related to mission of the College, the purpose of the academic programs and support units, and the strategic planning process, including priority initiatives. 3. Facilitate all aspects related to accreditation and institutional effectiveness, including the identification of goals, the relationship to the mission of the College and strategic priorities, assessment measures, analysis of data, and the use of results of assessment for improvement of academic programs, student learning outcomes, and the educational and administrative support services. Library Services Lynn Cox Mission Statement: The libraries of SKCTC support the mission of the college by providing information in a wide variety of formats. SKCTC librarians develop and enhance the information literacy skills of students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. 1. To acquire, and provide ready access to, materials supporting all educational offerings of the college, including general education and vocational/technical courses. 2. To work with faculty to ensure that all students receive information literacy instruction by providing classroom and individual instruction, as well as online materials, which will enhance students knowledge of available resources and their ability to find and evaluate information. 3. To provide off-campus access to materials supporting all disciplines. 4. To serve as a repository for materials on the history and culture of Kentucky and of the Appalachian region. 5. To offer general library services to residents of the counties within the college's service area. 6. To serve as a center for study and computer usage. 7. To work with other libraries to provide students and faculty access to materials which are unavailable locally. 8. Natural Sciences & Mathematics Rhonda Creech Mission Statement: The faculty of the SKCTC Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division will provide its students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to live and work in today s STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)-based society through exploration of the biological sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. 1. To offer science & math courses that satisfy requirements for associate degrees and for transfer to other academic institutions 2. To offer developmental mathematics courses for students who require preparatory course work. 3. To offer courses in various instructional delivery forms, providing alternative approaches to teaching and learning, and to make learning opportunities accessible to students. 4. Nursing Kathy Guyn The A.D.N. graduate, having achieved the graduate outcomes, is prepared to practice in a variety of settings within the parameters of individual knowledge and experience according to the standards of practice. The role of the A.D.N. graduate includes human flourishing, nursing judgment, professional identity, and spirit of inquiry. Encompassed within these roles are the core components of context and environment, knowledge and science, personal/professional development, quality and safety, relationship-centered care, and teamwork. 1. Safety & Security Scott Sherman & Ron Hayes Mission Statement: To adopt policies and procedures and offer training to help enhance safety and security across all 5 SKCTC campuses. 1. Offer training and practice in procedures and methods designed to promote safety and security. Social Science & Related Technologies Kevin Lambert Mission Statement: To provide courses and academic programming in the social sciences to students who wish to transfer to a 4-year institution or seek immediate entry into the workforce upon
graduation. 1. To maintain a schedule of transfer courses which are responsive to the needs of the students pursuing a baccalaureate degree. 2. To provide technical programs based on local, regional and state employment needs for students seeking immediate employment upon graduation. 3. To develop and maintain innovative, alternative approaches to learning. Southeast Scholars Sandra Brown Mission Statement: to identify "at-risk" and "first generation" college students in Harlan, Letcher and Bell Counties in the 6th grade and begin facilitation in the 7th grade. We will provide enrichment and intervention programming to assist our students in successfully completing a curriculum of academic and life skills. These combined components will ensure a smooth transition from high school to college. Upon completion of high school and the Southeast Scholars Program, only Southeast Scholars students will become eligible for guaranteed tuition and books for an Associate's Degree at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. SKCTC must be the students' first choice of college enrollment within 15 months of graduating high school. 1. To recruit and serve at risk, first generation youth. 2. To provide programming to enhance academic and life skills of students. 3. To provide programming to ensure each student's successful transition into college. 4. Provide financial assistance for college tuition and books to those who complete the program successfully. Student Affairs Dr. Rebecca Parrott Mission Statement: To provide current students with the support and services to help them succeed at SKCTC and to provide potential students with information and services to help them transition successfully to SKCTC. 1. To assist students in making a smooth transition to college life by providing quality admissions, enrollment and financial aid programs. 3. Student Support Services Sheila Gordon Mission Statement: The purpose of the Student Support Services (SSS) program at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College is to increase the number of disadvantaged, low-income college students, first-generation college students, and college students with disabilities who successfully complete a program of study at the post-secondary level. 1. The Student Support Services goal is to assist 140 first-generation, low-income, or disabled
college students to successfully complete a program of post-secondary study by providing support services that will increase retention and graduation rates and facilitate transfer to fouryear institutions.
