Career Cruising Assessment - Aligning your interests with post-secondary Career assessments can be helpful for assessing how your interests align with certain careers and post-secondary programs. The Medicine Hat College is pleased to provide an assessment called Career Cruising to help you explore your interests. There are no right or wrong answers; the questions are based on your likes/dislikes of job tasks. Career Clusters Business, Administration, Finance & Information Technology (BIT) Career Cluster According to Alberta Education, the BIT cluster focuses on the management, marketing and use of electronic technologies to access, use and manipulate information within personal, family, workplace, community and global contexts. This cluster challenges students to expand their confidence, experience and skills as innovators and leaders 1 Related CTS classes include Computing Science, Enterprise and Innovation, Financial Management, Information Processing, Management & Marketing, and Networking. Media, Design & Communication Arts (MDC) Career Cluster According to Alberta Education, the Media, Design & Communication Arts cluster is designed to provide students the flexibility to adapt to various situations relating to design, communication and esthetics. This cluster includes courses related to art and culture, such as the performing arts, film and video, broadcasting, journalism, writing, creative design, fashion, libraries and museums. 2 Related CTS courses include Communication Technology, Design Studies, and Fashion Studies. (University Transfer) Journalism (B.A.) (University Transfer) Visual Communications (Applied Degree and Post Diploma/Post Certificate) Applied Degree means that the program focuses on theoretical approaches as well as practical application of career-related skills gained through academics and industry-supervised, hands-on work experience in the field. Natural Resources (NAT) Career Cluster According to Alberta Education, the NAT cluster focuses on conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. In this cluster, learners develop the motivation and commitment to work individually and collectively as private citizens and members of the workforce toward the conservation and responsible use of air, energy, forests, land, minerals, water and wildlife. 3 Related CTS courses include: Agriculture, Environmental Stewardship, Forestry, Primary Resources, and Wildlife. Trades, Manufacturing & Transportation (TMT) Career Cluster According to Alberta Education, the TMT cluster focuses on skills and knowledge related to the design, construction, fabrication and maintenance of a product. It refers to a students intention to enter a professional school upon completing a related bachelor s degree. Example: Pre-Medicine student may have completed an undergraduate science degree prior to applying to medical school for professional training in medicine. Distance Learning means that coursework is done online and learning is primarily self-directed. Applied Degree means that the program focuses on theoretical approaches as well as practical application of career-related skills gained through academics and industry-supervised, hands-on work experience in the field. Learning Circles combines virtual education formats with onsite block and weekend programming to allow learners working in the industry to complete undergraduate education. Distributed Learning is a model of education where the instructor and student are located in differing locations and may access the course content at different times using various modes of technology. Although the student works through the course independently, they are supported from a distance by an instructor with extensive industry experience.
