Richland School District Two JOB DESCRIPTION (Created November, 2015) JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal, Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2) FLSA Status: Exempt Pay Grade: Administrative Days of Work: 225 GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Assists the R2i2 Director in planning, directing, and implementing the curriculum for the innovative program model of R2i2 to ensure the educational development of students through demonstrated planning, leadership, supervision, and administrative skills. Reports to the R2i2 Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the R2i2 Director in the management of the inventory of R2i2 curriculum and course offerings. Analyzes student assessment data to manage modifications to R2i2 programs. Participates in the research and development of new R2i2 programs and course offerings. Assist with researching the newest trends of industry and emerging markets and ensuring that program offerings remain of high interest and are relevant to local, regional, and/or national workforce development needs. Assists the R2i2 Director with coaching and monitoring of all R2i2 curriculum teams to ensure the R2i2 curriculum meets or exceeds expectations in the following areas: problem-based, project-based, fullimmersion, real, rigorous projects, portfolio assessments, integrated credit, articulation agreements, collaborative projects across strands/programs/courses, cutting edge curriculum and technology, virtual educational opportunities, and 21 st Century skills. Assists in the safe arrival and dismissal of students; assists in implementing appropriate procedures for car riders, walkers, and the loading and unloading of buses. Assists in coordinating requests for student transportation for internships and field studies, etc. Assists with logistics and planning of all transportation relative to R2i2. Assists R2i2 Director and assigned staff with R2i2 internships and associated projects. Assists with fieldstudies, site visit scheduling and transportation. Assists in recruiting, supervising, and retaining R2i2 teachers and guest instructors. Serves as an administrator in charge of the school in the absence of the R2i2 Director; may routinely supervise assigned portions of the school s student or employee populations. Assists the R2i2 Director in developing, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive professional development plan for R2i2 staff and guest lecturers/instructors. Provides instructional coaching to all R2i2 instructors and guest lecturers resulting in mastery of problem-based, project-based instructional strategies. Guides teachers and other staff members in their professional growth; uses the evaluation process to improve instruction effectively. Assists the R2i2 Director in developing, training and monitoring the implementation of the newest trends of portfolio assessment (including e-portfolio development).

Assists the R2i2 Director, with the R2i2 Leadership Team, in maintaining effective and efficient Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Participates with the R2i2 PLC team in their PLC process and results. Participates with the R2i2 PLC with high schools. Assists with the management of R2i2 s attendance policies through weekly attendance reviews, partnering with high schools to develop individualized attendance plans, meeting with parents, students, and R2i2 instructors to provide customized plans for attendance. Assists the R2i2 Director in managing student academic concerns in partnership with teachers, parents, mentors, and appropriate district staff. Assists with developing individualized academic plans when necessary. Assists with the management of student conduct and adherence to R2i2 Business Ethics Expectations (i.e., professionalism, dress-code, behavior expectations, etc.) Assists in providing a safe environment for students and school personnel. Promotes the welfare of students, faculty and staff; sets high expectations and articulates them to parents, staff, students, and the community. Assists in the provision of a school-wide discipline program. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline according to due process for the rights of students. Develops and maintains effective relationships with law enforcement, security and emergency services personnel, etc. Assists the R2i2 Director in providing conflict/concern management strategies to resolve issues with students, parents, and the community. Facilitates the resolution of issues pertaining to student grading and withdrawal procedures. Advises and manages various student activities and clubs as assigned by the R2i2 Director. Assists the R2i2 Director in partnership with high school counselors, parents, and students, provides counseling and scheduling services for each R2i2 student to ensure that assigned coursework meets the individual student s needs. Assists the R2i2 Director in oversight of R2i2 s on-line application process for interested, eligible students. Assists the R2i2 Director with R2i2 orientation sessions, open houses, career fairs, and university visits. Assists with developing and managing middle school and high school tours to leverage and maximize the use of the facility. Assists in facilitating and managing various R2i2 events, including non-district oriented events. Assists the R2i2 Director in developing and maintaining positive, effective relationships with the leadership teams of high schools and middle schools through ongoing relationship management and communications. Assists in the design and development of summer programs for middle school and freshman/sophomore high school students. Assists with the business functions of the school, including the implementation of purchasing procedures and the monitoring of various expenditures as assigned. Communicates information such as budget data, accounting processes, board policies, etc. as needed for the training of staff, in monitoring accounts, and in ensuring compliance with established internal controls. Assists with the R2i2 strategic plan documentation and execution. Assists with R2i2 accreditation as assigned by the R2i2 Director.

Informs the R2i2 Director of the conditions and needs of the R2i2 campus. Inspects the R2i2 facility as necessary, recommending improvements and taking steps to correct identified deficiencies as assigned. Provides for changes in schedules and programs that provide for the needs of students. Assists in orienting students and parents to the school and maintains a high level of visibility and availability to students and parents. Assists in arranging services for students identified as having special needs. Supports the development, implementation and monitoring of each student s IEP as applicable, assisting with on-going compliance with state and federal special education regulations, including the implementation of due process procedures. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for student objectives and programs; presents a positive image of Richland School District Two at all times. Willingly performs other duties as assigned or requested. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Master's degree or higher with at least five years of experience as a classroom teacher and at least two years of experience in public school administration at the secondary level preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid South Carolina Tier 1 Principal (or Principal) certificate and certification in a content area at the secondary level. Knowledge: JOB REQUIREMENTS Extensive knowledge in the development, planning, organization, implementation and management of cutting edge instructional programs and practices designed to meet R2i2 objectives and requirements. Extensive knowledge of labor market needs and trends in various industries, employment sectors, and emerging markets. Knowledge of basic workplace/business practice and terminology. Knowledge of the standards, regulations, and laws relating to educational activities; knowledge of current and legacy instructional approaches and methodologies. Knowledge in the proper methods for development, implementation and control of financial resources and budgets. Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to the R2i2. Extensive knowledge in the application of classroom instruction and teaching; knowledge of techniques used in motivating students and maintaining appropriate behavior. Extensive knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Extensive knowledge of the concepts of human growth and development and student behavioral characteristics. Effective knowledge of modern office equipment such as computers, copiers, calculators, facsimile machines, etc. Skills/Effort: Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in management, communications, formal partnership development, public relations, curriculum, and business development. Proven track record of innovation, problem solving, project management, and superior customer service in a fast-paced, evolving, and collaborative environment. Proven track record as a strong, dynamic leader with tremendous public speaking, interpersonal, and writing skills. Ability to develop, execute and evaluate comprehensive professional development plans for assigned staff. Ability to ensure that program offerings are innovative and remain of high interest and are relevant to local, regional, and/or national workforce development needs. Demonstrated experience in hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel. Ability to use and effectively apply independent judgment and discretion, and accept broad autonomy in

directing and managing school operations; ability to delegate authority while maintaining accountability. Ability to assist in the development of effective long and short-range goals and set appropriate educational priorities. Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice, and/or make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines. Ability to complete, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and other information. Ability to oversee registration, attendance, and Powerschool management; ability to plan, facilitate, and manage technology integration. Ability to develop, plan, execute, and manage R2i2 budgets. Operates general office equipment such as a copier, computer, facsimile machine, calculator, etc. Additional Physical, Cognitive, and Other Requirements: Duties involve work in an office, school or outdoors environment that includes standing, walking, and sedentary duties. Must be able to talk, read and hear, and effectively perceive and exchange information in a variety of oral, written and/or printed formats. Requires the ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems, collecting information, and drawing valid conclusions. Must make sound decisions related to curriculum development, budget administration, personnel, public relations, building maintenance, etc. Must effectively exert influence and apply effective leadership principals in counseling, teaching, and supervising others, including students. Duties require successful adaption to stressors, emergencies, interpersonal conflicts, volatile situations, tight deadlines, etc. Must be able to record and exchange data, follow or deliver detailed verbal or written instructions, and make presentations to large groups. Must be able to read, interpret, and apply various laws, policies, and procedures. Duties require the ability to conduct performance appraisals, prepare and interpret complex records and reports, and develop schedules, procedures, strategic plans, etc. Must prepare correspondence and enter data in correct form including proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Must possess the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, determine decimals and percents, and apply complex statistical analysis. Must be able to compare and analyze information in numeric or symbolic form, and appropriately process color, depth and spatial relationships. Must have sufficient hand, eye and foot coordination to use or operate standard office equipment, items, and supplies. Duties of the job require routine keyboard operations and the frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Duties may involve the pushing, pulling and/or lifting of items weighing up to 10 pounds and the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis. Working Conditions: School, office or outdoor environment with some exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, etc. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and working with students. Physical demands are generally restricted to school/office activities requiring the movement/lifting of items weighing up to ten pounds. Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel required. Non-traditional hours may be required and a flexible schedule is necessary as deemed by the R2i2 Director. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Responsibility: Assists in the supervision R2i2 staff and students.
