Whether students pan to enter the workforce immediatey or attend coege after high schoo graduation, carefu consideration of high schoo course options can impact their futures. To better prepare students for the demands of the 21st century economy and for post-secondary education, the Forsyth County Schoo District has provided this panning guide for use by students and their parents. Use this panning guide for the next four years, and use it to set career goas and pan for the word of future work. Go over the information in the guide together, and begin to have discussions concerning post high schoo pans and how you can reach the goas that you set. Bring this guide with you to each annua advisement appointment at your high schoo, and share with your advisor as you a work together to map out the next year's schedue of courses. FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 2017-2018 Career Panner 4 WHAT ARE CAREER PATHWAYS? OVERVIEW OF CAREER CLUSTERS/PATHWAYS Career Pathways are state-approved career enhancement programs defined as a coherent, articuated sequence of rigorous academic and career-reated courses starting in the ninth grade and eading to an associate degree, and/or an industry-recognized certificate or icensure, and/or a baccaaureate degree and beyond. Career, Technica, and Agricutura Education (CTAE) provides students with the opportunity to seect at east three sequenced courses in a career pathway. CTAE CONCENTRATOR: A concentrator is defined as a student who takes at east three CTAE courses in a specific program area during their high schoo career. PATHWAY COMPLETER: A pathway competer is a concentrator who competes the requirements for the Georgia Miestones Assessment System and aso competes the requirements for CTAE pathway concentrators. Seection of a pathway is based on sef-awareness and the investigation of occupations pus reated educationa eves aigned with the pathway. Most high-demand, high-skied, high-wage occupations in a concentrations sti require education beyond high schoo. Impementation of career pathways is a coaborative effort between the Forsyth County Schoo District, the Georgia Department of Education, the Technica Coege System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia. Georgia s 17 Career Custer/Pathways provide a structure for organizing and deivering quaity Career, Technica and Agricutura Education (CTAE) programs. Modeed after the Nationa Career Custers configuration utiized by most of the United States, Georgia s 17 Career Custer/Pathways Mode represents approximatey 96 career pathways to hep students navigate their way to greater success in coege and career. As an organizing too for curricuum design and instruction, the 17 Career Custers provide essentia knowedge and skis for the students career pathways. This mode functions as a: Usefu guide in deveoping programs of study that bridge secondary and postsecondary curricuum. Indicator of a range of career options for students' graduation pans of study. Method of aowing students to discover their interests and passions, empowering them to choose the educationa pathway that may ead to success in high schoo, coege and career. The 17 Career Custer/Pathways encompass both secondary and postsecondary education and wi strengthen and improve student transition from secondary to postsecondary education.

A student has competed an Advanced Academic Pathway in ELA, mathematics, science, or socia studies when the criteria described beow have been met. ADVANCED ACADEMIC PATHWAY IN ELA (ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS) CRITERIA: 1. Student graduated, thereby competing 4 required credits in ELA, AND 2. Student s course history in ELA (23 course codes) incudes at east one AP* Course Code (23. 043; 23.053; 23.065) or one IB* Course Code (23.06800; 23.06900; 23.06110; 23.06120; 23.06130) or one post secondary enroment code in 23 that fufis a core graduation requirement in ELA, AND 3. Student earned credits in two sequentia courses in one word anguage. ADVANCED ACADEMIC PATHWAY IN MATHEMATICS CRITERIA: 1. Student graduated, thereby competing 4 required credits in mathematics, AND 2. Student s course history in mathematics (27 course codes) incudes at east one AP* Course Code (27.072; 27.073; 27.074) or one IB* Course Code (27.06120; 27.06130; 27.05220; 27.05240) or one post secondary enroment code in 27 that fufis a core graduation requirement in Mathematics, AND CTAE Pathway CTAE Pathway A series of 3 or 4 specified courses in a CTAE approved pathway. Advanced Academic Pathway An advanced Academic Pathway may be foowed in any of these four content areas: ELA, mathematics, science or socia studies. Fine Arts Pathway A Fine Arts Pathway may be foowed in any of these five areas of study: visua arts, theater, dance, music, or journaism. A student has competed a Fine Arts Pathway when three courses, from those identified in the five accompanying attachments (B-Visua Arts, C-Theater, D-Dance, E-Music, F- Journaism), have been successfuy competed in any one of the five areas. Word Language Pathway A Word Language Pathway may be foowed in any of the word anguage areas incuded in the state ist of approved courses. A student has competed a Word Language Pathway when the criteria have been met. 3. Student earned credits in two sequentia courses in one word anguage.
