It was originally called The Chicago Dental Infirmary but was soon restructured as The Chicago College of Dental Surgery. Affiliating first with Valparaiso University, it eventually affiliated with Loyola University Chicago and became the Loyola University School of Dentistry. In 1942 Dr. Schoen accepted the appointment as editor of the Illinois Dental Journal. During his years in this position he became professor and chairman in the Department of Dental Materials at Loyola. He became the fifth Dean of Loyola University's School of Dentistry in December, 1956. Along with his many positions Dr. Schoen received numerous awards, such as the Charles N.
