Section 1: Stakeholder Engagement Involvement Process: On March 18, 2014 a School Site Council meeting was held with the LCAP plan development on the Agenda. In attendance at that meeting were two parents, four teachers, 3 students and the school site administrator. Stakeholders were given an overview of the LCFF and LCAP and a draft plan was shared. The goals were discussed and feedback was solicited. On the same day, a Parent Information Meeting was held in which all parents received an overview of LCFF and LCAP. A meeting was held on April 8, 2014 for all stakeholders to review the LCAP and to provide feedback. There were parents, students and staff at the meeting. We shared videos explaining LCFF and LCAP and answered questions as they pertained to our school. Parents, students, staff and faculty completed the LCAP survey online as well. Out of the stakeholders who attended the meeting, two people provided feedback on the LCAP plan. Impact on LCAP: All stakeholders had the opportunity to participate in the LCAP plan by providing feedback regarding their experience with Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School. Due to a lack of participation in the engagement process, the feedback was limited. As a result of the limited feedback, goals have been created around improving parent engagement and involvement. Stakeholders wanted to ensure that the school provided tutoring services. An area of concern for the stakeholders was the suspension rates for the students at Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School. In creating the LCAP, goals were created to address stakeholder concerns. 4

All vacant positions will be filled by full time teachers. Additionally, all ELA and math teachers will be teaching the CCSS with curricular materials that are aligned to the standards. PD will focus on the needs of the teachers in regards to the implementation of the CCSS. 015-16: 5

Teacher leaders (e.g. instructional specialists or site content area coaches) will provide PD to their colleagues based on the data from the SBAC assessment. Teachers will also be creating curriculum to supplement the materials that are aligned to the CCSS that meet the needs of our students. Lou Dantzler Middle School will reduce the suspension rate by 10% and maintain an attendance rate of 97%. Social skills will be taught through the advisory class via online and text 6

social skills curriculum. Teachers will receive training on social skills implementation. Additionally, an in school suspension program that focuses on restorative justice practices and social skills training will be implemented. The school counselor will receive professional development in restorative justice practices for implementation purposes which will continue to lower the suspension rate and increase attendance rates. A pilot peer mediation program will be implemented to assist students with accepting responsibility for their actions. The pilot program will focus on a small group of students (e.g. one grade level). A teacher facilitator will participate in professional development and provide training to school site teachers utilizing a train the trainer model. 015-16: Social skills instruction will continue to be taught by the advisory teachers. An additional school counselor will be added to the staff to facilitate small group mandatory social skills training classes to address minor infractions and will be implemented prior to a student receiving a suspension for the same or similar infraction. Bi-monthly assemblies to recognize students and/or classes that have met or exceeded the 97% attendance rate will be held in which students will receive school pride momentos (e.g. pencils, lanyards, bracelets, certificates etc.) The pilot peer mediation program will be further developed and implemented across all grade levels to help students accept ownership for their behavior. This program will be facilitated by the school counselor. This will help to further decrease the out of school suspension rate. 016-17: An additional counselor will be added to the staff to address the needs of the students on the campus. Each counselor will have a specific area of focus for example one counselor may facilitate the attendance assemblies for students/classes that meet or exceed 97% attendance, one may facilitate the peer mediations and one will focus on the in school suspension program. In addition, all counselors will provide social skills instruction as well as the professional development for the teaching staff using a train the trainer model. Adding to the counseling program will provide each grade level with a school counselor thereby reducing the counselor student ratio to 1:150. 100% oflou Dantzler Middle School students will exceed baseline proficiency levels on the CASSP, statewide assessments in ELA and mathematics. Identified Need: CST ELA proficiency data from 2012-13; 6th grade - 28%; 7th grade - 17% 8th grade - 24%. 7

All classes will have data walls in which students are able to monitor their progress. Online, adaptive web-based curriculum supplements will be used in ELA and Math intervention to support student achievement during the instructional day. 015-16: Based on the baseline data from 2014-15, the instructional specialist will continue to hold data talks but will also provide differentiated professional development to teachers to address gaps or holes in student learning. An assistant principal will be added to the staff as a result in the increase in student enrollment. This additional personnel position will provide additional instructional support to the teachers. The assistant principal will focus on the structure of the intervention program. The intervention classes will change based on the interim assessment data to ensure that students receive instruction that supports their learning. Additionally, the tutoring program will be revamped so that teachers are tutoring in their areas of strength. 016-17: Based on the CASSP assessment scores, the principal, assistant principal and instructional specialist will plan differentiated professional development with teacher leaders (grade level chairs, site content coaches) to ensure the 8

continued academic achievement of the students. Lou Dantzler Middle School will provide increased opportunities for parents to be involved in school-wide decision making and increased opportunities for parental involvement. Parents will receive various communications regarding opportunities for involvement (newsletter, e-newsletter, phone messaging, website etc.) in English and Spanish. To accomplish the translation, we will hire a bilingual office assistant/clerk who will also provide translation at Parent information meetings. 015-16: Based on the parent involvement data from 2014-15, in addition to increasing parent involvement and engagement, Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School parents will increase their presence on the School Site Council (SCC) which makes recommendations for Title spending. A school site steering committee will also be developed which will address parent 9

concerns (uniform infractions, cell phone policy infractions). The school site steering committee will receive training by attending professional development meetings and/or conferences. 016-17: Upon reviewing parent involvement and engagement data from 2015-16, Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School parent roles will expand to the development of a family mentoring program in which current families will be assigned new families to mentor. The purpose of the mentoring program is to assist incoming families with the systems of the school. The school administration including the principal, assistant principal and parent liaison will provide training to the mentoring families. Lou Dantzler Preparatory Middle School will provide access to creative arts courses for students with behavioral issues and facilitate performances, exhibitions, and publication opportunities for students to share their artistic endeavors with peers, parents and the community. Identified Need: Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School provided dance classes provided by an outside vendor as an elective during the first semester of the current school year. During the Parent Information Meetings (PIM), the dance classes would perform for the parents. Over thirty students auditioned for the ICEF wide musical performance and twelve students are on the cast. 014-15: Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School will hire a part time visual/performing arts teacher to plan with the core content teachers for arts integration. This teacher will work with either one grade level or content area. All students including students who exhibit behavioral challenges will have alternative means of expressing mastery of content through the visual and performing arts. The entire staff will participate in professional development in order to determine how to successfully integrate arts into the curriculum. 015-16: Based on the baseline data from 2014-15, Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School will increase from a part time to a full time visual/performing arts teacher to plan with the core content teachers for arts integration. The teacher will work with a full grade level to develop and implement alternative means for all students including those students with behavioral difficulties to express mastery of content through visual and/or performing arts. The visual/performing arts teacher will provide professional development for the teachers on an ongoing basis during school site professional development. Students will have the opportunity to perform for their parents and the community. 016-17: Based on the data from 2015-16, Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School will hire a visual/performing arts teaching assistant to work with the full time arts integration teacher. The teacher and assistant will work with all grade levels to develop and implement alternative means for all students including those who exhibit behavioral difficulties to express mastery of content through visual and/or performing arts. 100% of Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School students who participate in the athletics offerings will maintain a GPA of 2.0 with grades of satisfactory for work habits and citizenship. Identified Need: This year Lou Dantzler Prep Middle School offered girls volleyball, football, soccer, track and field, rugby, girls and boys basketball and cheerleading. 27-45% of the students who participated in the sports program were not academically eligible 40-60% of the students on the teams received unsatisfactory grades for work habits and/or citizenship.
