Final preparations are being made through our preferred supplier Schoolzine. In the coming weeks parents will receive instructions on how to sign up for the enewsletter or download the Schoolzine app. We are very excited about this move as it will significantly reduce our impact upon our environment; more than 48,000 sheets of paper (approx. 6 trees!!) will be saved. The Schoolzine newsletter will be interactive and allow us to communicate a greater range of information to our community. Watch this space for details on how to sign up. If you are interested in advertising your business to our community through the new enewsletter then please see below. HPSS enewsletter Sponsorship We are pleased and excited to inform you that we ll soon be producing a new enewsletter with Schoolzine. The move to this new format will promote and enhance our engagement with parents, students and the wider community in a format that is respectful to our school sustainability practices. We believe you ll find the enewsletter highly engaging, as it will provide us with a more efficient and effective means of connecting with you. The new format will allow the inclusion of photo galleries, online bookings, mobile app, feedback forms, calendars and so much more. The newsletter also has a sponsorship section which provides a great opportunity for our local businesses to engage with our parent community. If you would like your business to be a part of this, please contact Schoolzine re the Hermit Park SS enewsletter on 1300 795 503. From the Deputy Principal s Desk Rule of the week At Hermit Park we follow three main rules: Be Safe; Be Responsible; Be Respectful. Classroom teachers explicitly teach a rule a week. In our newsletters we will put in our rule of the week. Please feel free to chat to your child/children about the rule and what it means to them. Week 5: Be Respectful Stairs and Verandah Walk quietly and orderly so that others are not disturbed Allow younger children to go first Week 6: Be Respectful - Toilets Respect privacy of others Leave it tidy Student Council News Today we held our Pink Stumps Day. We are most grateful for everyone s support in wearing PINK! and donating in excess of $500 in gold coins! We would also like to thank the wonderful families who donated baked goods for the pink themed bake sale. Everyone enjoyed the pink treats! The cricket match between the teachers and students was a huge hit also!! Mrs Pecchiar From the Sports Desk Inter-house Athletics Carnival Take your marks, get set, GO! Our massive athletics carnival is just around the corner with all grades perfecting their throwing, jumping and running technique during PE classes. The following dates have been confirmed for our inter-house athletics carnival: The senior carnival will run from 9am to 3pm on Monday 19 th of June. The junior carnival will run from 9am till approx.1pm on Tuesday 20 th of June. All parents and family are invited to come and watch their child participate on their respective day. Interschool Cross Country On Tuesday 2 nd of May twenty eight of our finest distance runners descended on Bicentennial Park to compete in the annual interschool cross country. Hermit Park performed extremely well with all runners representing the school with pride and passion. A massive congratulations to Fred Drovandi and Baley Woolf who finished in first place and Lila Sehdev who finished an impressive fifth. Each division consisted of over 130 of Townsville s top cross country runners. These three athletes will now compete in the NQ Cross Country trials on Tuesday the 23 rd of May. Friday Sport Expression of Interest notes have gone home for round TWO of Friday Block Sport. The sports available this season are tennis, rugby union (boys only), football/soccer and touch football. A special note for those students who paid all their money for block one, you will receive a $14 discount due to the two rounds missed in block one. This will be indicated on the permission form your child will bring home. AFL Gala Day Finally on Thursday 25 th of May Hermit Park SS will field two teams in the annual ALF QLD Schools Cup held at Tony Ireland stadium. In previous years Hermit Park SS has performed extremely well with the boys team placing second last year and a strong girls team that improved rapidly during the day. We wish our two teams the best of luck! Mr Cody

Any queries, please contact Sarah Johns on jaysonsarah@bigpond.com. P&C Association News Meet the P&C Secretary Melissa Neil Melissa has been a parent of Hermit Park State School since 2012. She has two children, a girl in Year 5 and a boy in Year 1. Melissa loves the community vibe of the school and believes you are made to feel like part of the Hermit Park family. Melissa also believes that the school s great reputation is due to programs such as the sustainability initiative and the great teachers and wonderful leadership team. Melissa has been a general member of the P&C since 2013. This is the first year she has taken on an Executive position. Melissa believes that becoming involved in the P&C is a terrific way to meet other parents. As a full time working mother, Melissa believes the P&C provides an opportunity to also know what is happening within the school. Meet the P&C Treasurer Larissa Moule Larissa has been a Hermit Park parent for seven years. She has two children currently at the school across Prep and Year 4 and a son who has just finished and moved onto high school. As Larissa says 2017 was a big year, one in, one out. Larissa believes Hermit Park is a great school because of the terrific parent and teacher involvement. Hermit Park does things differently. Larissa has largely been involved with the P&C as a general member and school banking coordinator. However, in 2015 she became part of the Executive and took on the role of Treasurer. Larissa believes that becoming involved with P&C allows you to always know what is happening around the school. P&C Day It is National Volunteer Week and today, 12 May, marks P&C Day. With this in mind, the P&C Executive would like to say thank you to all the volunteers within the HPSS community who have donated their time, money, expertise and advice in support of the HPSS P&C. The wonderful contributions of so many across our community enable us to continue supporting this great school by providing services, resources and infrastructure. We thank you!

Trivia Night SAVE THE DATE: Saturday 10 June, 6:30pm, HPSS Hall. Tickets are $20 and are now available for purchase through the school office. So get those brains working, study up! Here, let s do some practice Q. What was the name of Australia s first reality television program? Q. Play School first went to air in what year? Q. Name the four main male characters from The Big Bang Theory. Much of the success of past years has been the wonderful prize donations made by our community for the raffle and auction part of the evening. Can you help us this year? Do you know any local businesses that could donate a prize? Would you be able to approach a local business for a donation? If you think you could help secure a prize donation or would like to volunteer your time to help at this year s Trivia Night, please contact Gina, our P&C Fundraising Coordinator on 0407 169 310. P&C Meeting Day Change As of May, the P&C will be moving their regular meeting time to the fourth Tuesday of the month. The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday, 23 th May, 6:30pm. This quarter, the CBA contribution to P&C funds is $533.21. Thursday is banking day! Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) If your child is booked in for before school, after school or vacation care but will be absent due to illness or any other reason, please ring our OSHC office on 4728 2537 to let a staff member know. Alternatively, you can e-mail or leave a message on our answering machine. If we are not notified, children cannot be accounted for and this can be a time-consuming and distressing experience while educators are trying to locate your child. The next P&C OSHC sub-committee meeting will be held on Monday, 22 nd May, at 5:30pm in the OSHC room. In OSHC last week we celebrated May the 4 th be with you with all things Star Wars! The children showed great creativity, enthusiasm and imagination to make their own Chewbacca. Super cute!
