DISD Interim Bridge Plan IBP Will Provide Urgently Needed Improvements to SJES: 5 th Ranked School Based on Combined Facility Condition Index (FCI 27%) and Utilization (156%) Total 183% Proposed $5.3M for Renovation/Addition: New Addition to Replace 18 Classrooms in 14 Portables and 1 Modular Unit Plumbing (FCA Most Critical System) 4
DISD Interim Bridge Plan Stonewall Jackson s Administration, Staff and Parent Community Appreciate that DISD Has Included Stonewall Jackson Elementary in the Interim Bridge Plan (IBP). We believe: In Public Education; We Believe SJES Is Truly a Neighborhood School of Choice in East Dallas; Students Deserve a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment Public Schools Must Remain an Option for Families Throughout Dallas. The Deteriorating Physical Condition of Stonewall Must Be Addressed and Is Much Larger in Scope Than the IBP Addresses. Therefore, Our Common Goal is to Optimize the Health, Safety and Learning Environment for Students, Teachers and Support Staffs 5
SJES Infrastructure/Facilities Improvement Projects Instructional Space (15) Portables Replace with New Wing as Proposed in the IBP Library - Expand to Add Computer Equipment, Book Shelves and Book Inventory Upgrade Desks and Instructional Materials in all classrooms Noise Suppression Needed Especially in Classrooms for Deaf Education Students Cafeteria Renovate and Expand Space to Increase Number of Students to Be Fed Per Period and Reduce Number of Lunch Shifts Expand Kitchen and Update Equipment to Serve >400 Lunches Per Day Improve Sound Proofing and Update Cafeteria Equipment to Modern Standards 6
SJES Infrastructure/Facilities Improvement Projects Gym Renovate/Expand to Increase Capacity to Hold Gym Classes Inside Year Round and in All Weather Conditions Add Storage Closets for Equipment Auditorium Convert into Combo Room for School Events Upgrade to Comply with Fire Code Increase Capacity With current capacity, SJ cannot hold a grade level program for parents due to Fire Code Minimum Need: Remodel, Repair or Replace Seats Add Sound and Video Systems 7
SJES Health Improvement Projects Plumbing Update or Replace Plumbing as Identified in FCA Assessments by Parsons Remodel and Add New Restrooms Throughout School and Gym Building Update Sanitation Equipment: Vacuum Cleaners, Power Sprayers, Fumigation, Window Washers 8
SJES Safety Improvement Projects Upgrade Fire Alarm and Surveillance Systems Update/Renovate All Entrances and Exits To Secure Facility for Lock Down Incidents Remodel Spaces to Withstand Natural Disasters Few Places to Gather Students During a Natural Disaster or Emergency Students Are Placed Four Deep In Hallways As Far Away From Windows As Possible Modernize Cafeteria Equipment to Prevent Accidents 9
