Parental Guide Dear Parents, Congratulations on the successful beginning of the new academic year 2014 2015. I am Mrs. Simona your child's English teacher for this year. I certainly hope to be of good benefit to your child. This guide line is offered to you in order to help your child progress through the year. This guide will also help the child to understand his/her responsibility concerning his/her English course. Please keep this guide at all times as a how to study reference of this year's English course. 1- Daily Routine. The following schedule will help your child determine which book to ; how to use each book; how to study; and what is expected of him/her on that day. Sunday Spelling/ Phonics / Quiz 45minutes Books to Story town Practice Work Weekly Quiz Book, CW Copybook Is the first HW Copybook lesson each Sunday. at We will use the Practice Workbook for reviewing Spelling words and class work. You will use the Practice Workbook to revisit Spelling words and do homework. Mrs.Simona 1

Monday Vocabulary/Anthology 90 minutes Books to Story town Practice Workbook, Storybook, CW Copybook HW Copybook Monday we will have 1 session of vocabulary and 1 session of Reading (Anthology). at We will use the Practice Workbook for reviewing Vocabulary words and class work. Storybook will be used in class for reading and Think Critically. Story book will go home only over the weekend to study for the quiz on Sunday and should be returned Sunday. You will use the Practice Workbook to revisit vocabulary words and do homework. Storybook should be used to strengthen your reading skills and develop comprehension. Thursday Writing 40minutes Books to 3 rd Grade Grammar booklet, CW Copybook, HW Copybook at We will use the 3 rd Grade Grammar booklet to practice writing and explore the different parts of writing. You will use the 3 rd Grade Grammar booklet to rewrite and your classroom writing assignments. 2- Policies. Please make sure that your child understands and follows the following policies. Classroom Policy (rules) 1- Raise your hand at all times before speaking or leaving your seat. 2- No eating during the session. 3- No improper language. 4- Treat you classmates well. 5- No bullying, teasing, or making fun of classmates. 6- You must have your classroom supplies on a daily basis with you in class. 7- Adhere to seating chart. Changing seat without permission is not allowed. Homework Policy Homework is out of 10 marks. Homework is due the following day. If your homework is late 5marks will be deducted without a parents note. Books Policy Story book will go home only over the weekend to study for the quiz on Sunday and should be returned Sunday. Absence Policy Absence With Excuse -If your child successfully submits the required assignment of the missed day a %100 of class work mark of will be scored. -if your child fails to submit the required assignment of the missed day only %50 of the class work mark will be scored. Spelling Policy Spelling will be included in the weekly quiz. We will use games and spelling bees to help us with strengthen our phonic skills. Writing Policy Writing will be included in the weekly quiz. We will work on descriptive, personal narrative, persuasive and information writing to prepare us for 4 th Grade. Writing assessment will be done in class and sent home for editing and rewriting only. Reading Fluency Policy Reading will be included in the weekly quiz. We will practice on fluency by timing our reading and monitoring our missed word to improve pronunciation. Daily Grading Policy Your child will be able to collect 50 marks on his/her daily work divided as follows: 10marks = behavior 10marks = homework 10marks = participation 20marks = Evaluation Sunday s evaluation is the grade of the weekly quiz.
