GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 1: Sentence Fragments A complete sentence has a subject and a predicate. A sentence fragment might not have a subject or a predicate. Do not use a fragment as a sentence. Complete Sentence: I am happy it is the weekend. Sentence Fragment: Is the weekend. Read and Tick Tick ( ) the complete sentences. I wake up late on Saturdays. Alarm at 10 in the morning. Get up and brush my teeth. I turn on the television. I watch cartoons on Saturday. Bowl of congee.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 2: Compound Sentences A compound sentence is two smaller sentences joined by a conjunction. Use a comma (, ) before the conjunction. Compound Sentence: I am hungry, but I don t have food at home. Conjunctions: and but or Read and Circle Circle the conjunctions. We go to the grocery store, and I buy many groceries. I find the chicken, but the meat is expensive. I have a list, but it s at home. We can put the food in my bag, or we can use the shopping cart. I like corn, and I love eggplant. We can cook a meal at home, or we can go to a restaurant.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 3: Declarative Sentences A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period. Declarative Sentence: I like to watch kung fu movies. Read and Tick Tick ( ) the declarative sentences. I practice kung fu every day. Everyone likes to jump rope at my school. How much are those new sneakers? Kung Fu is my favorite sport. Can you ride a bike? I run slowly.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 4: Exclamatory Sentences Exclamatory sentences show when something is exciting. We use an exclamation point (! ) at the end of an exclamatory sentence. My family travels for Chinese New Year. My grandparents go with us. Everyone sleeps on the train. The luggage is in the closet. The trip to Gansu is very difficult. I like to travel in China.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 6: Choosing the Right Pronoun A pronoun takes the place of a noun. Some pronouns can be used as the subject of a sentence, others can be used as the object of a sentence. Subject Pronouns: I you he she it they we Object Pronouns: me you him her it them us Read and Circle Circle the right pronoun. Vivian calls the kittens to (she/ her ). (They/Them) do not come. (She/Her) catches them. Vivian feeds (they/them) treats. (I/Me) need milk for the kittens, she says to Andy. (He/Him) gives her a small bowl of milk.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 7: Possessive Nouns A possessive noun shows who something belongs to.to make a singular noun possessive, add an apostrophe and -s. To make a plural noun ending in -s a possessive, add just an apostrophe. Singular Possessive Noun: My brother s backpack was heavy. Plural Possessive Noun: My three sisters gifts were very nice. Read and Tick Tick ( ) the sentence if the underlined word is a possessive noun. Guilin s land is very old and beautiful. The mountains there are very beautiful. You can see writing on the cave walls. The city s caves are old and interesting. My grandparents house is in Guilin, near the two famous lakes. They go fishing on the lakes waters.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 8: Common Nouns and Proper Nouns A proper noun names a certain person, place, or thing and begins with an uppercase letter. A common noun names any person, place, or thing. Proper Noun: Luo Zhongli is a very famous artist in China. Common Noun: An artist must work hard to make good art. Read and Tick Tick ( ) the sentences if the underline word is a proper noun. I like Li Zhenjian because his art is beautiful. I want to be an artist. Who is your favorite artist from China? I m going to see the famous art in Beijing. They also have old calligraphy and costumes. I try to learn about many artistic people.

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 9: Capitalizing the First Word in a Sentence Begin every sentence with a capital letter. Capial letters are also called uppercase letters. Capital Letter: Let s go watch the talent show tomorrow. Read and Circle Circle the words that need a capital letter. do you watch talent shows? I like to watch talent shows. contestants choose to do magic, dance, or sing a song. They stand on a big stage, and the crowd cheers. they are so nervous! the judges watch the contestants and give them a score. one lucky person will win the big prize! i love the wonderful costumes. GRAMMAR WORKSHEET 10: Capitalizing Holidays and Brand Names Holiday names and brand names are proper nouns. Every important word in the names should start with a capital letter. Holiday Name: I love to go watch the races during Dragon Boat Festival. Brand Name: I will buy a Huawei phone for my sister. Read and Circle Circle the underlined words that need a capital letter. I open my presents on christmas morning. My brother wakes up before me. He finds coca-cola under the tree. We put cookies on the table for Santa Claus the night before. My mom cooks a big dinner for the family. Christmas is fun, but I really love chinese new year.
