Eligibility Must have completed 3 rd Year prior to program start to be eligible 70% average in year of application
Program Content Two modules: The European business environment The European business project Also includes: Lectures Study trips Company visits Cultural visits
Objectives Rationale behind the establishment of the EU & decision-making process Aims of the single market Implication of the single European market on global trading patterns Major policies of the EU Monetary Union and the Single Currency Enlargement of the EU Privatisation and deregulation Corporate structures and strategies
European Business Environment Lectures on: Establishment and development of EU Political economy of EU Economic integration European business systems
Business Project Team work 5/6 members per team Focus on a sector of industry and a target company Analyze the industry Recommend a strategy Prepare a 7000 page report
Business Project Objectives Develop ability to analyze industrial sectors in different European countries Compare and contrast sector structures and organizations in different countries Discuss investment strategies for foreign firms making major investments in Europe

Grading Transcript & grades obtained provided by MBS Participants assigned a PASS or FAIL grade on UBC transcript
Credits & International Business (IB) 6 elective credits given for the ESSP 3 credits = Senior non-commerce electives 3 credits = Senior Commerce electives All 6 credits may be used toward the international studies requirement of IB The program fulfills the international experience component of IB
Participants 65 students in 2010 summer 50% in MBA cohort 50% In 4 th Year Undergrad cohort Most participants are from schools across the U.S. and from UBC

Students choose their room-mates
Documentation At this time, Canadian citizens do not need visas for the countries visited ALL nationalities should confirm visa needs with the consulates/embassies of the countries to be visited Visa costs are participants responsibilities If travelling to other countries before or after the program be sure to check visa requirements
2010 Program Cost Program Cost in 2010 was 3200 ($5177 cdn, on Sept 21/10) includes: Tuition Fees for 6 UBC credits 6 credits at UBC costs approximately: $1260 + fees for domestic students $4200 + fees for international students All course materials Accommodation & breakfast Transport within Europe Does not include: Return travel to Manchester, Lunches/Dinners, Insurance Potential for 200 ($323 cdn) discount
Personal Expenses Varies with lifestyle and personal preferences Consider needs for lunches/dinners, shopping, entertainment Students should budget 1000.00 ($1700 CDN)
