Westport Arts Center Youth and Teen Education 2016-2017 Welcome to the Westport Arts Center! Thank you for choosing the Westport Arts Center for your child s arts experiences. We are excited to offer a brand, new season that will feature many new opportunities for returning and new students. We have expanded our weekend classes to include more specialty opportunities than ever before while also continuing to offer introductory, mixed-media classes for students who may still be finding their favorite types of art or who just happen to love it all! As always, our curriculum will emphasize the importance of artistic process as students work through projects rather than emphasizing a finished product. We know that our educators will guide students toward work that they will be proud of and work that will be uniquely their own. The skills they learn in our classes will transfer to other artistic endeavors helping them to become more well rounded artists. With so many options to choose from, we know that it can be hard to find the right class. If you have any questions about the types of classes we offer or the best fit for your child, please don t hesitate to reach out Sincerely Lindsay Heffernan, Director of Education WAC s Mission in Education The Westport Arts Center is a non-profit organization that reaches 4,000 children each year. Our educational programs are designed to build confidence, encourage multiple perspectives and independent thinking, and foster experimentation in a fun and exciting environment. Visit our website for more information on our entire roster of educational programs: After School Classes Vacation Workshops and Camps WAC Gives Back: Therapeutic Arts Birthday Parties Weekend Workshops Connections Outreach Program Keep an eye out for our new programs this upcoming season including opportunities for toddlers, teens and more! 51 Riverside Avenue Westport, CT 06880 202.222.7070 www.westportartscenter.org

Important Information & Policies Allergies, Medical Conditions and Special Needs When registering, please provide our educators with information regarding your child s needs to ensure a safe and fun experience. Please do not send your child with any food products that include nuts for the safety of all of our participants. Your participation in our program implies your consent for trained personnel to treat your child in the event of a medical emergency. In registering, you agree to hold WAC harmless in the event of any personal injury or loss sustained on the premises. Attire Please dress your child in comfortable clothing that is okay to get messy. Your child is likely to get dirty. Art materials such as ink and acrylic paint can leave permanent stains. WAC is not responsible for any damage to clothing or personal materials. A table is made available to students to store personal items including jackets and coats, but we encourage you not to bring any items that aren t absolutely necessary. You may send your child with a cover-up or smock if you wish. Drop Off and Pick Up Policy Parents and guardians dropping off for class MUST park on Riverside Avenue. There is no parking in the lots available for pick up or drop off. Parents or designated guardians must escort children to and from the classroom, and sign them in and out. Please be sure that our educators are aware of anyone who might be picking your child up. Cancellation Policy Registration is non-refundable 2 weeks or less prior to the start of a program. Prior to, or on, the 2 week deadline date, cancellations will incur a $15.00 processing fee. WAC cannot issue credits or refunds for missed classes for any reason including classes missed due to illness or medical conditions. Transfers to classes of the equal or lesser value are allowed prior to the start of the program if space allows. Attendance and Inclement Weather Policy As stated in the cancellation policy, there are no make-ups or refunds for missed classes including classes missed due to illness or medical conditions. In the event of inclement weather, we follow the Westport Public Schools system. If school is cancelled or dismissed early, we will not have class on that day. We make every effort to make-up missed classes, but dates and times of make-ups may be limited. Late Pick Up Policy Parents will be charged $15 if they are more than 15-minutes late for pick-up. If an emergency arises (or you are running late) and you are unable to pick up your child during the designated time, please call the office at (203) 222-7070. Picture Permission The Westport Arts Center occasionally uses photographs taken in classes for documentation purposes and for publicizing future Westport Arts Center children s programs. Registration in a course at WAC assumes permission to photograph your child and use his/her image in publicity materials. Please notify a WAC staff member if you prefer that WAC not photograph your child for publicity purposes. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact Lindsay Heffernan, Director of Education. You are responsible for understanding these policies prior to attending class. 51 Riverside Avenue Westport, CT 06880 202.222.7070 www.westportartscenter.org
