QUOTA FOR DIPLOMA AND DEGREE HOLDERS Government Sponsorship is for Diploma Holders only The number of candidates admitted to each programme under the Diploma Holders Avenue should not exceed 5% of the intake per programme. Ordinary Diploma Programme The minimum entry requirements for admission to an ordinary diploma programme are: a) Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 passes b) Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least 1 Principal pass and 2 Subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

The entry point will be assessed based on the content of the previous educational programme. 1.12 College Requirements for Degree Holders (Private Sponsorship) i) That the applicants for admission to the MBChB programme holding other degrees that contained over 70% course coverage in their 1 st and 2 nd year in their earlier degree study programmes shall be admitted to 3 rd year of the MBChB programme. ii) That the credits be transferred such that they shall be exempted from the courses already covered in their earlier degree study programmes.
6 The College programmes under this category include: iii) (a) Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (b) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (c) Bachelor of Pharmacy (d) Bachelor of Dentistry. That the applicants for admission to the MBChB programme holding other degrees that contained over 70% course coverage in their 1 st year but less than 70% in their 2 nd year in their earlier degree study programmes shall be admitted to 2 nd year of the MBChB programme. The College programmes under this category include: iv) (a) Bachelor of Science in Radiography (b) Bachelor of Optometry That the applicants for admission to the MBChB programme holding other degrees that contained less than 70% course coverage in their 1 st year in their earlier degree study programmes shall be admitted to 1 st year of the MBChB programme. The College programmes under this category include: (a) Bachelor of Cytotechnology v) That the applicants for admission to the College Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programmes but holding other degrees that contained over 70% course coverage in their 1 st and 2 nd year in their earlier degree study programmes shall be admitted to 3 rd year and transfer of credits done as indicated above. The College programmes under this category include: (a) Biomedical Sciences vi) The applicants for admission to the College Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programmes who hold Bachelor of Optometry and Bachelor Science in Radiography, shall be admitted in Second Year and transfer of credits done as the School Board would have identified and deemed mandatory.
7 vii) The applicants for admission to the College Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programmes who hold Bachelor of Cytotechnology of Makerere University, shall be admitted in Second Year and transfer of credits done as the School Board would have identified and deemed mandatory. viii) That the applicants for admission to the college undergraduate degree programmes holding other degrees of other universities shall be considered on a case by case basis after verifying their course coverage. 2. COLLEGE OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATION SCIENCES (Diploma requirements) 2.1 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science At least a Second Class (Lower Division) Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Studies, Information Technology, Statistics or any other Diploma with Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Technology as one of the subjects from a recognised Institution Candidates who possess a Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology from Makerere University with at least (Lower Division) shall be admitted to Second year of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Candidates who possess a Pass Class of the same Diploma shall be admitted to First year of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. 2.2 Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering Candidates should possess at least a Second Class (Lower Division) Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or any other Diploma with Mathematics or Computer Science as one of the subjects from a recognised Institution. 2.3 Bachelor of Information Systems and Technology Candidates should possess at least a Second Class (Lower Division) Diploma in Computer Science or any other Diploma with Business or Computing aspects from recognised Institutions. Candidates who completed full Series of CCNA training (1-4) stages) under the aegis of the CISCO programme.
8 2.4 Bachelor of Library and Information Science Candidates must hold a Credit Diploma from any of these fields or related discipline from recognized Institution: (v) NB: Diploma in Library and Information Science Diploma in Records and Archives Management Diploma in Information Management Diploma in Publishing and Book Trade OR Any related discipline from a recognised Institution. Diplomas with a background in Biological sciences shall also be considered. 3.2 Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Health and Management A Diploma in Wildlife Ecology, Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture, Animal Science, Forestry, Environmental Science, Animal Nursing and a Diploma in any other life science or their equivalent from recognised Institutions. 3.3 Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology An Ordinary Diploma in Biomedical (Medical), Laboratory Technology or its equivalent from a recognised Institution. 3.4 Bachelor of Animal Production Technology and Management (Diploma Requirement) An Ordinary Diploma in Animal Health and Production (or its equivalent) from recognised Institutions. 3.5 Bachelor of Industrial Livestock and Business with the following options for specialization in Year two: (v) (vi) Dairy Industry & Business Poultry Industry & Business Feed Industry & Business Leather Industry & Business Commercial Insects & Wildlife Industry Ranching & Meat Industry

College Requirements for Degree Holders for the Programme Any first degree in any field of study from a recognised University. 4. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES (Diploma Requirements) 4.1 Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering An ordinary Technician Diploma, with at least credit 3 in Mathematics, from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning. A candidate with a diploma may be exempted from year 1 if he/she has passed successfully (with at least credit 3) in the following courses: (v) (vi) (vii) (viii) Engineering Mathematics Engineering Drawing Engineering Mechanics Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Mechanics of Materials Introduction to Computers Thermodynamics 4.2 Bachelor of Science in Agriculture At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry or its equivalent obtained from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning. (vii) Dairy Science, Technology, Microbiology and Nutrition 4.4 Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Land Use and Management At least Class II (Lower Division) Diploma in Agriculture and related fields including Environmental Sciences or its equivalent obtained from recognised Institutions of Higher Learning. Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Agriculture at A Level. 4.5 Bachelor of Agricultural and Rural Innovation Holders of Class II Ordinary Technical Diploma in Agricultural related field or its equivalent from recognised Institutions. Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry or Entrepreneurship at A Level. 4.6 Bachelor of Agribusiness Management At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness or Agricultural related Business Studies or its equivalent from recognized Institution. Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry or Entrepreneurship at A Level. 4.7 Bachelor of Science in Horticulture At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma or its equivalent in Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture or Biological Sciences from recognised Institutions. Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal pass in Biology or Chemistry or Agriculture at A Level.
12 4.8 Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition Holders of the following Second Class or Credit Diplomas are eligible for admission a) Diploma in Education, Applicants must have studied the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Home Economics. b) A Higher National Diploma from a recognized Institution in any of the following: Chemistry, Human Nutrition, Home Economics, Food Science, Science and Technology, Agriculture, Health. c) Ordinary Diploma from a recognized Institution in any of the following: Science Technology (Biology) Science Technology (Chemistry, Biochemistry) Food Processing Agriculture, Biology d) Diploma from any of the following Paramedical Institutions Medical Laboratory Technologists Medical Assistants Public Health Assistants Uganda Registered Nurses/Midwives 4.9 Bachelor of Science in Meteorology At least a Second Class Diploma in Meteorology or its equivalent from recognised Institutions. 4.10 Bachelor of Environmental Science Holders of Relevant Diploma (at least a Second Class) in Science related subjects from Makerere University or other recognized Institutions. 4.11 Bachelor of Science in Forestry At least a Second Class National Diploma in Either Forestry, Horticulture, Agroforestry or Agriculture or its equivalent from recognized Institutions. 4.12 Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management At least a Second Class Diploma or its equivalent in Tourism and Hospitality, Recreation or in any other related field from a recognized institution.
13 College Requirements for the Degree Holders A first degree in any area of study from a recognized Institution 4.13 Bachelor of Geographical Sciences At least a Second Class National Diploma or its equivalent in Education with either Geography, Biology, Chemistry or Physics as a teaching subjects from a recognized institution. 5. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, DESIGN, ART AND TECHNOLOGY (Diploma Requirements) 5.1 a) B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) b) BSc. (Electrical Engineering) c) B.Sc. (Mechanical Engineering) d) B.Sc. (Telecommunications Engineering) e) B.Sc. (Computer Engineering) Holders of Uganda National Examinations Board Ordinary Technical Diploma or its equivalent. Applicants should have obtained at least a Credit Class Diploma with at least a Credit Pass in Mathematics. 5.2 Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying and Geomatics A Diploma from recognised Institutions specialising in Surveying, Physical Planning and Civil Engineering. Applicants must have received an overall average of 60%in all the years and an average of 70%in all Mathematics examinations. 5.3 Bachelor of Architecture Holders of Uganda National Examinations Board Ordinary Technical Diploma in Architectural Draughtsmanship or its equivalent from recognised Institutions. Applicants should have obtained a Credit Class Diploma and passed with at least a Credit in all the subjects in building construction, drawing and Mathematics. 5.4 a) B.Sc. (Land Economics) b) B.Sc. (Quantity Surveying) c) B.Sc. (Construction Management) A Uganda National Examinations Board Ordinary Diploma in Building Construction, Civil Engineering or its equivalent.
14 Applicants should have at least a Credit Class Diploma and should have done Mathematics, Building Construction and Drawing with at least Credit 4 (four). 5.5 Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning A Credit Class Diploma with building and construction passed with a least a Credit from a recognised Institutions in the areas of Architectural Draughts-manship, Technical Drawing, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Physical Planning, Construction Management or Urban Governance and Management or their equivalent. 5.6 Bachelor of Industrial and Fine Arts A Diploma with at least (second class division) from a recognised Institution (after obtaining an advanced level Certificate) with Art and/or Technical Drawing. Credits will be transferred as appropriate. 6. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (Diploma Requirements) 6.1 Bachelor of Statistics EITHER: A Diploma in Statistics (at Intermediate Professional Level) from the Eastern Africa Statistical Training Centre, (EASTC) Dar-es-Salaam or its equivalent. OR: Any other Diploma from a recognised Institution with Mathematics as a major subject. A candidate who is a holder of a Diploma of at least Credit grading obtained at the Eastern Africa Statistical Training Centre, (EASTC) Dar es Salaam, will on admission to the Bachelor of Statistics Programme, be exempted from the first year and will thus enter the programme in the second year. The holders of Pass Diplomas may be admitted to Bachelor of Statistics, Year 1. 6.2 Bachelor of Science (Quantitative Economics) At least a Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. The Diploma Programme must have involved Mathematics as a major subject. 6.3 Bachelor of Science in Population Studies At least a Second Class or Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution with courses in Mathematics and/or Statistics as a subject. Special consideration will be given to applicants from the Eastern Africa Statistical Training Center (EASTC), who will be admitted into the First year.
15 6.4 Bachelor of Science in Business Statistics At least a Second Class or Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution with Mathematics as a subject. 6.5 Bachelor of Arts in Economics A Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in relevant fields/subjects (Economics, Mathematics) 6.6 Bachelor of Arts in Development Economics A Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in relevant fields/subjects (Economics, Mathematics) 6.7 Bachelor of Commerce A Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in relevant fields/subjects (Mathematics, Economics). 6.8 Bachelor of Business Administration Holders of at least a Second Class/Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in the areas of; Business Administration/ Management Studies, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Procurement, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Cooperatives and Business Studies 7. COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (Diploma Requirements) 7.1 Bachelor of Arts (Arts) Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. 7.2 Bachelor of Journalism and Communication Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. 7.3 Bachelor of Development Studies Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. 7.4 Bachelor of Arts in Music A Credit Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama or a Diploma in Music from a recognised Institution.
16 7.5 Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Film A Credit Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama or a Diploma in Drama or a Diploma in Film or Television from a recognised Institution. 7.6 Bachelor of Community Psychology A Credit Diploma or its equivalent from an Institution recognised by Makerere University in any of the following disciplines: Social Work, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Education and Nursing. 7.7 Bachelor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology Holders of at least a Second Class Diploma or its equivalent from an Institution recognized by Makerere University. 7.8 Bachelor of Arts (Social Sciences) Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. 7.9 Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution. 8. COLLEGE OF NATURAL SCIENCES (Diploma Requirements) 8.1 Bachelor of Science (a) A Credit Diploma in Education from National Teachers Colleges. The applicants must have studied any of the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics, Geography or Agriculture. (b) At least an Ordinary Credit Diploma from the UTCs and recognised Institutions The applicants must have studied any of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. (c) A Credit Diploma from any of the following Agricultural Colleges: Arapai, Nyabyeya, Fisheries Training Institute Entebbe, Bukalasa, Busitema, Veterinary Training Institute- Entebbe.

(d) A Credit Diploma from any of the Schools of Health (Medicine) Radiographers, Dispensers, Nurses, Medical Laboratory Technicians or Environmental Health Officers. 8.2 Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry (a) (b) An Ordinary Credit Diploma from UTCs and recognised Technical Colleges with qualifications in Chemistry and Mathematics or related fields. A Credit Diploma in Education with Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics. 8.3 Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology Relevant Second Class Diploma from recognised Institutions in the following areas: Biotechnology Biology Agriculture Biomedical Sciences 8.4 Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture At least a Second Class or Credit Diploma in Fisheries Management and Technology, Aquaculture Yacht and Boat Building, Veterinary Sciences or the equivalent from recognised Institutions. 8.5 Bachelor of Sports Science At least a Second Class or Credit Diploma in the relevant subject(s) such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Commerce from recognised Institutions of Higher Learning. 8.6 Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology At least a Second Class or Credit Diploma from recognised Institutions with a bias in Biology, Chemistry, Forestry, Wildlife, Animal Husbandry, Environmental Education and Environmental Management.
18 8.7 Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geosciences and Production The applicant must have obtained at least a Second Class or Credit Diploma in Science based disciplines with a bias either in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics or a Higher Diploma in Engineering and /or Geo-sciences. 9. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND EXTERNAL STUDIES (Diploma Requirements) 9.1 Bachelor of Adult and Community Education up to (30% of the intake). The applicants must have studied any of the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics, Geography or Agriculture. 9.3 Bachelor of Commerce (External) A Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in relevant fields/subjects (Mathematics, Economics). 9.4 Bachelor of Agricultural and Rural Innovation(External) Holders of Class II Ordinary Technical Diploma in Agricultural related field or its equivalent from recognised Institutions.

SCHOOL OF LAW Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry or Entrepreneurship at A Level. 10.1 Bachelor of Laws Any Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning. All applicants for Bachelor of Laws will be required to sit and pass the Pre-entry examination set by Makerere University. 11. MAKERERE UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL (Diploma Requirements) 11.1 Bachelor of Commerce A Diploma from a recognised Institution in relevant fields/subjects (Mathematics, economics). Candidates who completed their Diploma programmes with at least Second Class Lower Division/Credit from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) with in the three years back period i.e 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic years at the time of application shall be admitted to the Second Year of study and shall not be required to take any course in the first year of study. Applicants who posses a Pass Diploma in the relevant field, shall be admitted to First Year of study. Candidates who completed Level/Part two of any relevant professional qualification shall be admitted to First Year of study. (v) Candidates who completed their studies from other Institutions other than MUBS shall be admitted to the First Year of study. 11.2 Bachelor of Business Administration Holders of at least a Second Class/Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution in the areas of Business Administration/Management Studies, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Procurement, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Cooperatives and Business Studies.

Applicants to Bachelor of Business Statistics shall be admitted to the First Year of study because the programme is highly specialised. Candidates who completed Level/Part two of any relevant professional qualifications with a bias in Mathematics or Statistics shall be admitted to First Year of study. 11.5 Bachelor of Science in Accounting A candidate must hold any Second Class /Credit Diploma in Business related fields from a recognized Institution. Applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Accounting shall be admitted to the First Year of study because the programme is highly specialised.
21 Candidates who completed Level/Part two of any relevant professional qualification shall be admitted to First Year of study. 11.6 (a) Bachelor of Real Estates Business Management (b) Bachelor of Science in Finance (c) Bachelor of Catering and Hotel Mgt (Jinja Campus Private) A candidate must hold any Second Class/Credit Diploma in Business related fields from a recognised Institution. Applicants to the above programmes shall be admitted to the First Year of study because they are highly specialised. 11.7 (a) Bachelor of Human Resource Management (b) Bachelor of Leisure and Hospitality Management (c) Bachelor of International Business (d) Bachelor of Leadership and Governance (e) Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management (f) Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management (g) Bachelor of Transport and Logistics Management (h) Bachelor of Science in Marketing Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (j) Bachelor of Business Computing (k) Bachelor of Office and Information Management A candidate must possess at least any Second Class/Credit Diploma from a recognised Institution.
