CARIBBEAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL JOB DESCRIPTION Job Identification Job Title Division Location Reports to Subordinates Assistant Registrar Syllabus and Curriculum Development Western Zone Office, Jamaica Senior Assistant Registrar/ Syllabus & Curriculum Development Administrative Assistant Stenographer/Clerks Job Summary Responsible for a range of activities related to the development and maintenance of syllabuses; oversee the development of materials and resources for the Council s products including CPEA, CCSLC, CSEC and CAPE Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. Advise Subject Panels and guide syllabus and curriculum development and revision processes 2. Provide information and prepare documentation required to inform decisions on syllabus-related activities 3. Assist teachers as required to implement syllabuses through workshops and other related activities 4. Coordinate the development of specimen papers, mark schemes and support materials for new and revised syllabuses 5. Oversee the dissemination of new syllabuses, revised syllabuses and syllabus amendments 6. Assist with activities related to the conduction of the Council s examinations 7. Undertake other duties that may be assigned by a duly authorized person
Required Activities 1. Advise Subject Panels And Guide Syllabus and Curriculum Development And Revision Processes 1.1 Identify suitable persons to participate in various stages of the syllabus development and revision process, including syllabus development committees, subject panels and review committees 1.2 Gather and provide to subject panels and review committees, resource materials that will assist in syllabus development and revisi 1.3 Manage the process for the convening and conduct of meetings of syllabus development committees, subject panels and review committees 1.4 Interpret Council policy for subject panels and review committees 1.5 Provide curriculum guidance for the work of subject panels 1.6 Collaborate with the Examinations Development and Production Division in providing guidance to subject panels for the development of the assessment component of syllabuses 1.7 Collaborate with the panel convenors in preparing reports of meetings of panels and review committees 1.8 Collate comments on draft syllabuses, revisions and amendments and assist panels in using these to revise/refine syllabuses 1.9 Edit syllabuses and prepare reports for consideration by Committees of Council 1.10 Follow-up on decisions of meetings of Council to ensure that required actions on syllabuses are taken in a timely manner 2. Provide Information And Prepare Documentation Required To Inform Decisions On Syllabus-Related Activities 2.1 Conduct needs assessment and gap analysis to assess the demand for the development of new syllabuses and their feasibility as offerings of the Council 2.2 Inform revisions of syllabuses 2.3 Prepare research/technical papers and other documentation on curriculum development and other curriculum related activities 2

Assist Teachers As Required To Implement Syllabuses Through Workshops And Other Related Activities 3.1 Identify areas in which the Council needs to undertake teacher training to support syllabus implementation 3.2 Plan and conduct workshops to assist teachers in dealing with issues related to the implementation of syllabuses 3.3 Maintain a database of teachers trained in CXC workshops 3.4 Develop a database of resource persons in various subject areas 3.5 Follow up with Ministries of Education to ensure that local workshops are conducted to extend the benefits of CXC workshops 4. Coordinate The Development Of Specimen Papers, Mark Schemes And Support Materials For New And Revised Syllabuses 4.1 Collaborate with the Examinations Development and Production Division in assigning to members of subject panels, tasks for the development of specimen papers and related mark schemes 4.2 Coordinate activities for the completion of specimen papers and related mark schemes 4.3 Identify areas in which new materials are required to support the teaching of a syllabus 4.4 Assist in identifying resource persons to prepare materials and manage the process 4.5 Edit syllabus support materials for printing 5. Oversee The Printing And Dissemination Of New Syllabuses, Revised Syllabuses And Syllabus Amendments 5.1 Vet all syllabuses and amendments for accuracy of edits and the use of approved CXC formats in preparation for printing 5.2 Establish and manage a schedule for the printing and dissemination of syllabuses and amendments in a timely manner 5.3 Track syllabuses and amendments to ensure that they have been received by schools and Ministries of Education 3

Assist With Activities Related To The Conduction Of The Council s Examinations 6.1 Assist in the administration of pre-test of examination items and questions conducted by the Council 6.2 Assist in reviewing and monitoring centres used for the conduct of the Council s examinations 6.3 Assist in the management of the Council s marking exercises 7. Qualifications and Skills Requirement 1. A first degree from a recognized university 2. A post-graduate degree in Curriculum Development, Instructional Design and Technology, related discipline 3. At least three years experience teaching and assessing students, preferably at the secondary level 4. At least three years experience at a senior level in education 5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant Web based synchronous and asynchronous Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 5
