3. Tell us which services have been most useful and why? Services Most Used Academic Advising Counseling College Tours Transfer Assistance Financial Assistance Computer Use Tutoring 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 Number of Students Individual Responses: Academic advices and especially personal counseling. SSS has provided me with academic advising, support, amazing staff that works for the student s goals and dreams of transferring. I would have been lost and on a different track if it wasn't for the guidance I have revived. The academic field trips to the universities have given me an opportunity to see and understand how the universities work. Also academic counseling has been a lot of help because with the support and advising that has allowed me to set goals in a reasonable time. Personal counseling and transfer assistance have been the most useful because my counselor has helped me reach my goals. Academic and financial advising were the most helpful. Coming in fresh out of college I was lost in the transition of what to do next. Going to different campuses to expand my view on where I most likely like to transfer. Academic Advising, Personal Counseling, Transfer Assistance, Computer use, College Tours. I believe the academic counseling has been the most useful because neither of my parents graduated from high school, so I was able to get the right orientation in SSS. Along with the academic counseling, personal counseling motivated me to stay in school and try harder in my classes. The academic advising has been very helpful. I think without it, I would be lost when choosing my classes. I also enjoyed visiting colleges, because I don't think I would have been able to visit them on my own. Academic Advising has been the most useful because without it I don't think I would have been able to do it on my own, especially my first year.

The services that have been the most useful to me have been academic advising and college tours. Academic advising has helped me stay on track on make sure I am doing everything possible to transfer and succeed. The college tours have been very helpful because it gave me the chance to visit different campuses and learn more about them, which helped when applying to different schools. Academic Advising, my advisor Martin Olguin has been very helpful. The assistance with transferring. I feel Like if it wasn t for SSS trio, I wouldn t have achieved my goal. Academic advising because I began with little knowledge about the college system and have grown to flourish with the assistance of SSS. Personal counseling since my college experience was full of life altering experiences. SSS counselors provided caring for my own well-being to continue on and not give up on my goals to transfer and receive my bachelor s degree. Being able to utilize the counseling service was the most beneficial resource. I was able to fully understand what was expected of me and never doubted the advice I received because my counselor was so knowledgeable in his field. Academic advising has been most useful because I have always wanted to be in NVC for only 2 years and Roberto made that possible for me. Academic advising because it helps to know what to expect for future classes and what classes to take in order to graduate and transfer. Academic Advising has been the most useful. Through SSS, I have created an educational goal with my academic advisor that has pushed me to be where I am today. The most useful service was having Roberto as my adviser. He helped me whenever I needed assistance regarding which classes to take and how plan my academic future. Counseling and going to field trips have been very informative and gives me a clear idea of what I want. Academic Advising with MARTIN OLGUIN. He has always been supportive and helpful. Also, he has always kept my best interest at heart. Without him I would not have known what classes to take and what prerequisites I needed for my major and transfer. Tutoring, it has helped me pass classes and expand my knowledge as well as the computers and always being able to use them. Also printing because I save money and time. The College Tours and the Transfer assistance has been very helpful as well as the academic advising because they helped me stay on top of things. All of the services have been extremely useful. Without them, I would not have an idea on how to navigate through the college system. With the assistance of the staff, I learned how to register for classes, fill out the FAFSA, and develop an ED Plan for transferring to a 4 year university. The tutoring and study groups helped me succeed in my classes as well. All have been very useful but the most has to be the academic advising because it s more interactive than the other counselors at school. Having the ability to have a personal counselor who is aware of the academic realm. Because of my parents lack of education in the U.S. they were unable to advise me about my college education, SSS trio provided me with this. Academic Advising. I am a student with a family who knows nothing of the college system and experience and it has been extremely beneficial to have someone who can provide me with help regarding courses and transferring.

Academic advising. Without Martins help to guide me through what classes I need or should take I would have been lost. Personal counseling because they guided me with my classes. If it weren't for Martin I would be lost. Transfer assistance was very helpful because I am the first person in my family to transfer so it is a new process for me. All the services were very helpful and also visiting the campuses it gave me insight of what to expect. The academic advising was the most helpful service that SSS offered me. It allowed me to have an educational plan for my time at NVC and for the future. Academic advising because they tell me exactly what I need to work on. The field trips we took to college campuses were really helpful because it helped me decide what kind of school was a good fit for me. Tutoring and study groups because I met a lot of people taking the same classes. The tutoring really helped me succeed in my math classes and I truly believe that if it wasn't for tutoring I wouldn't have been successful in certain areas. I found all the services very useful. I am really fortunate to have been in this program. The Individual counseling helped me learn how the college system worked, and also helped me plan out my classes. Martin, my counselor was very helpful and has been like a guardian for me. He is very helpful, reliable, and overall great. I enjoyed having tutors help me, and the availability of appointments, exploring campuses and more. The services that have been most helpful are the counseling service. Having Roberto as an advisor was really helpful. He helps me all throughout the year I spend at the college. I am really thankful and happy that I joined the program because it also gave me the opportunity to get to know the universities around our area. Academic advice was the most helpful to me. I had entered as a nursing major but realized that I did not like science. I was advised to do something I enjoyed doing. SSS helped me explore my options and helped me stay on track. Now I'm a Business major. I appreciated their advice as to what classes and what professors I should take. Also their financial aid assistance helped when it came to filling out the FAFSA. Martin has really been the best counselor ever; he has helped me in countless ways and without him I would probably still be at NVC for another few confused years. I find the computer/printing center very helpful and love all the field trips, especially the ones to different colleges.

4. What services would you recommend expanding or adding? (Multiple answers provided) Expanding Services Add another Class besides Coun. 97 Scholarships Wifi Transfer information (ie. Process) More building space for studying Add additional computers More Cultural trips Tutoring (adding additional tutors, Recommend no changes More college visits 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 Number of Students Individual Responses: Space is something I know cannot be expanded or added. I also know that the budget for trips is limited as well. Going to visit different campuses beyond the ones in the Bay Area. Maybe more private schools? I think everything is good as it is. Tutoring should be more able to the SSS students I would suggest adding more cultural trips so that students can be able to network with fellow students more. Maybe more computers. It would be great if there were more trips to various universities throughout the year. I think everything that SSS provides is great and very helpful. I would recommend to make tutoring sign ups I think all of the services provided have been great and I have benefited a lot from them. Maybe adding a few more college tours or cultural/social activities could help because they provide a lot of information and help the students get to know one another better. More advisement and encouraging the students to use the tutoring assistance that are provided.

I would recommend more space in the study area. The services that I have utilized have made a great impact and I think many students don't use them enough. I am content with these services. Since transferring can be such a difficult process possibly giving information of the transfer process. My only problem was that I was unaware I needed to send a transcript for another community college. Because of this I was not allowed the full opportunity for all colleges I applied to. I think all services are the best it could be. I like the new office because we have more computers instead of the old office where we had only 4. college tours Expand more cultural and social activities. The more field trips, the better. To me the services seem fine. no need to add in my opinion None It would be really useful if we could get WiFi because the only other place is the library and sometimes when there too many people trying to use WiFi it doesn t work very well. I'd recommend expanding on the tutoring and encouraging more students to tutor or come seek help. It's a really useful service and I like how you get input on progress. More variety of college tours. I recommend expanding research on scholarship opportunities. College tours. Most of the current college tours are to campuses that are local and I think it would be a great addition to also have campus visits/tours to colleges, CSU UC as well as Private, that are not the 'typical' local campuses. Transfer assistance maybe being more on the students even though it is out job. Many of us are scared. Adding to the peer tutoring that SSS offers it would be great to see a peer mentoring service that would allow incoming students of the program match with individuals that are about to transfer or have been here for a while. I believe there should be more available tutors and 5 days a week during school hours. More cultural field trips. So students can gain a deeper appreciation for other cultures and see new places. Keep your amazing staff!!! They are all so friendly and helpful, also do as many field trips as your budget allows. More college trips to a variety of universities.

What I would add on to the services offered here is other extra class required to be in the program. That class will help us understand the different Major offered and what best suits us. I think that would be great. I would recommend expanding the field trips to maybe once a year trips to distant schools, such as UCLA, UC San Diego, and more. In my experience, I though SSS offered great support and helped me a lot as is. 5. Please comment on how your experience in the SSS TRiO program has helped you in your college success? (Multiple answers provided) College Success Understanding my learning disability Networking Opportunity to explore options Become a better student and transfer to 4yr Skills to succeed at NVC Cultural Activities to socialize with peers Utilizing Tutoring to develop study skills Relationship w/ staff to succeed Developing Education Plan to reach goal 0 5 10 15 20 25 Number of Students Individual Responses: It helped me because my counselor helped me with my ed plan. This helped go be on the right path on what I wanted to do. Having the ability to have relationship with a program like SSS has given me the academic counseling, encouragement, and guidance my two years at NVC. The resources, information and tours have allowed the application process seem less tedious and have the support of someone that is use to this process, which is difficult at time for First Generation College Students. The tutoring has helped me in my classes when I am not sure of how to get many things done. Cultural activities have allowed me to interact with peers. Academic field trips have shown me what I should expect in the university experience. It has helped me reach my educational goals and to transfer. SSS TRIO helped me understand that I had many options in my academic life. They helped me with my ed plan as well as making think of what career I wanted to enter. Knowing which classes to take to be able to graduate with two degrees.

Without SSS I wouldn't have known what to do regarding on how to survive my classes. Thanks SSS! SSS helped me since the beginning of my college experience. I was able to receive one on one counseling with better attention than my other friends who had one of the school's counselors. I was also able to visit several schools which I would have never thought of visiting if it wasn't for the opportunity offered by SSS. There were other trips and activities that I went to that also allowed me to socialize with other students in the program. Also something as simple as having a computer always available helped me in many occasions because there were times when all the computers in the library were in use. Having the support of the SSS program truly gave me the confidence and tools to stay in school and strive for success. During my time in the SSS TRiO program, I was able to get help choosing my classes that fit my major. It has helped me to become a better college student and get to a university Being a part of SSS TRiO has helped me out very much in my college success. Before becoming a part of SSS, I didn't have a clear road map of what I wanted to do while in college and then transferring. Thanks to this program I learned a lot about how to be more successful in my courses and have also had a lot of help with transferring. I have met a lot of great people and the staff is very helpful. It has been extremely useful. I feel very lucky to have had such a good experience in this program. I met many great people and I have grown very responsible as a student and person. The advisers are very friendly and willing to help in any way. It has helped me in so many ways. I've grown so much and learned a lot. They helped me plan my education, and achieve my goal of graduating and transferring. Counselors (and professors) have been my main mentors along my path. Since I am a first generation college student I don't think I would have known were to begin in my path in higher education. Knowing that there was someone who cared how I did academically gave me more initiative to want to succeed. I knew before and after a semester I would be meeting with my counselor and did not want to go see him with bad news about a semester. When having a full work load he advised me on how to balance it all and gave me encouragement. SSS has helped me be clearer on what it is I want for my future. And I have met really great friends here in SSS that I wouldn't have otherwise met, and have also reconnected with old friends. the program has helped gain new knowledge on how to coordinate my classes and how to seek help and information on classes need for a major My experience in the SSS Trio program has helped me in my college success because I was able to find my passion and what I would like to focus in life. SSS helped me in my college success by giving me opportunities to explore many different options. It has been very helping. The counselor has put me in the right track and it has felt like a family. Everyone is helpful to each other and students as well as staff are very informative. Without the help of SSS I would not have been as prepared to transfer. I wouldn't have known what classes to take and I would not have visited and toured certain institutions. SSS has guided me on what classes to take for my required major. They have helped me as simple as helping me fill-in papers or obtaining a transcript they have always been there. It has helped guide me in the right direction regarding what classes I needed to take to graduate and it also introduced me to universities I hadn t considered at first.

SSS has allowed me to develop as a student. I learned how to network and do outreach in the college community, such as volunteering as a tutor or forming study groups with fellow classmates. I have also been dedicated to complete the classes on my ED Plan in order to transfer successfully. SSS has also allowed me to tour different colleges and universities in order to get an insight on the campus environment. All of these experiences have helped me become successful. It has helped me a lot with meeting people because there are times that those people are in your class and it helps with studying. My counselor and the program help support me and advised on college application, job interviews, and internships. Things that I would have a difficult time finding alone. The SSS TRIO program has helped me immensely in planning my education plan as well as my life plan. SSS has helped me discover other university s in which I might want to attend. They have given me a quiet and friendly place for me to go to and do homework as well as study. SSS has also helped me not be confused about what classes I should have taken. SSS has helped me in many ways. I have created a great group of friends and I have learned many new skills. It has given me the tools needed to pursue a higher education. It has given me the understanding and importance of networking skills that have proven to be useful during my time here at NVC. SSS TRiO program has helped me in my college success by guiding me to the path I really want to go. They helped me plan for my classes, gave me guidance of how I can succeed in each of my classes and offer support when I needed help or needed to talk to someone about my academics situation. They were a big push to my success and I thank SSS for all my accomplishment until this day. My counselor helped me plan my schedule all three years, he knew what classes to recommend and I could always come to him if I needed help with financial aid or other forms that the campus required. Because of SSS I have learned all of the classes I needed to take, how to get my degree, I have been directed to better understanding my learning disability, I have been able to apply for all the colleges I wanted to, I have had help with fafsa, and all the other paperwork, and am completely grateful! My experience in SSS was amazing. I met new people through the program and made new friends. I'm grateful for the counselors like Martin Olguin. Thank you Martin for your help. You are extremely good at helping first time college students find their way like you did with me. SSS has helped me choose a career I enjoy. Now I m transferring to Sacramento State. This program has really helped me succeed during my stay at the college. The advisors help me organize my Education plan. They also help me stay on top of things. SSS helped me succeeded with my junior college success tremendously. The thing that helped me the most was the tutoring. I really struggled with mathematics all my life, but with the tutoring I received thanks to SSS, I was able to succeed in all my math courses. If it was not for this program I probably would not have known about my general education requirements, transfer requirements, how to petition, how to do my financial aid, which school requires what, and how to become a better student.

I am planning to attend to San Jose State because I love the campus and they have a good psychology department I will be attending UC Berkeley. It is the school I see myself in that will provided me with the best education. UC Davis because it's my number one choice and has both my major (Psychology Pre-Med and my minor Viticulture) I will attend UC Berkeley because it is a good school for engineering major. I plan to attend SFSU because after talking to several therapists in the field, they all mentioned San Francisco as being one of the best. I also love the city and how it's not too far from home. I am still deciding between UC Davis and UC Merced. Both are very good schools and both provide my major. Planning to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo I am planning on attending either UC Berkeley or UC Davis because I really like the campuses and I think I could really grow as a person and student at either of these schools. I hope to attend Sacramento State because they have a great Graphic Design program and my dream is to become a Graphic Designer. I plan to attend Sac State because they are a good school for my major. UC Santa Cruz I know that I need a support system to get me through school which I received at Napa with SSS and Mills is a private school and I will receive the attention I need to follow my academic path as well as my family life. My top two schools from the four are San Jose State and Sonoma State, but in the end I chose Sonoma because it has always been one of my favorite schools and I couldn't see myself anywhere else. most likely Sonoma state because of the nursing program but also it isn t too far from home UC Berkeley because I love the environment and the diversity. I am happy with the distance of the campus and how it is not that far from home but far enough. I also am happy with the art department and the opportunities for my major. n/a I m planning to attend Sonoma state because it s the closes school to Napa and it s easier for work. UC BERKELEY - offers the best program for my major and is close to home. Not to mention a great university in itself. University of Michigan or UC Berkeley. They have always been my dreams schools as a child growing up.

I plan on attending SJSU because that s the school I felt the most comfortable and I liked the campus. I am planning to attend either UC Berkeley or UCLA in the Fall of 2013. I love the campuses, and their excellent Biology Programs. There would be many opportunities to do research and participate in internships on these campuses. I plan to attention Sacramento state in the fall because my experience when I went for a tour there made me very comfortable. It offers what my major is and it is not far or too close to home. I want to attend UC Berkeley because of the profound scholars they have in my subject of study. If I do get accepted at Berkeley, I will have to ability to work with some of the top scholars throughout the world, which will help me in graduate school. N/A Sonoma Or Sac State due to its close location to home and both being nice campuses. I plan to attend Berkeley, Merced or San Jose State. These schools stand out the most because of the diversity and the programs available for my major. I plan to attend UCLA because I really enjoyed my time there while being part of their summer transfer program SITE. If I plan to continue to my bachelors, I plan to attend San Francisco state... Sacramento State, because I like the campus and the classes that they offer. UC Davis because I love the campus, the town, and their anthro program. I plan on attending to Sacramento State because I really liked their business program and their campus. I knew I wanted to go their when I visited for the first time with SSS. I already got accepted to Sacramento State. I really liked that school it has a really good business program and I really do see myself there. I plan to attend the UC Berkeley, because it is a great campus the environment is very free and liberal. Also because it is one of the top five universities in California and I would be honored to go there. The schools I applied to were my top 2 choices. I plan on attending San Jose if I do not get accepted to UC Berkeley. The reason being is both schools offer great program for what I applied to and seem to be a good fit for me after visiting the campuses with SSS. The second reason is because Berkeley and San Jose were one of the closest 4-year universities to my parents.

I would recommend improving the computer/working area. Some people take sss as hangout rather than a study time, and it disrupts people's concentration on actual work.
