We trust that the community had a wonderful break and that everyone has returned refreshed and ready to embrace 2018! We wish all in the community a happy and successful year ahead. It was lovely to welcome 55 families and some new members of staff to the Tenby family this term. There will be a Parents Welcome Coffee Morning on Tuesday 16th January at TEYCI School Hall and on Thursday 18th January at the Library, Meru Campus. A great majority of the students were able to score better results which was above the target set and they have made consistent progress throughout the year. Average pass rate for all subjects - 99.02% and average number of A s scored in this cohort was 45.5%. This represents an incredible achievement for the students, especially given the new curriculum which has raised the standards required particularly in Higher Order Thinking elements. Average pass rate for all subjects - 80.00% compared to 70.83% in 2016. Chinese Proficiency Test/Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) 2017 Ten Yayasan DayaDiri students passed the HSK Level 5 & 6 examination in 2017 and Sarah Natalie Cheong from Form 5 Science scored the highest grade among all HSK students across Tenby Schools Group. The HSK curriculum is accepted around the world as the benchmark for Mandarin education and supervised by the Office of Chinese Language Council International under the China Ministry of Education. For HSK Level 3, 4, 5, and 6 tests, the maximum possible score is 300 and students must attain at least 180 points to pass these tests. The success of students in Sekolah Tenby is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, the maturity of the students and the expertise, effort and enthusiasm of the teaching and support staff. We would like to thank the parents in helping the students attain such commendable results.
Parents Association (PA) Date Night 2018 The school s PA Committee has been working tirelessly for the school community and one of the events which they organise to help strengthen the ties amongst the school community is the PA Date Night. It is a night where parents, staff and friends get together for a meal and enjoy themselves. The details of the PA Date Night this year will be held: Date: Saturday 28th April Time: 19:00hrs 23:00hrs Venue: Ballroom MRoof Hotel & Residence Theme: Hippie Night For more information, please see the poster attached at the end of this message. REMINDER: Parents Association (PA) Committee 2018 Nominations This term, we will elect the PA Committee for 2018 and we welcome any nominations. Every parent of pupils attending the School are automatically deemed to be Members of the PA. However, the PA Committee consists of elected members of the PA of which there should be ideally two representatives from each section of the School (Early Years, TIS Primary, ST Primary, TIS Secondary, ST Secondary). Please note that those nominated must abide by the aims of the PA, which are: To support the school in furthering its Mission and Vision of A United World At Peace Through Education. To provide support for school events, activities, trips and inter-school competitions. To provide support to parents of new students joining Tenby Schools. To support school activities and fund raising for charities. To encourage participation in parents meetings and activities organised by the schools. To facilitate contact between parents and staff as a means of strengthening the school community and enhancing communication. To provide a means whereby the school leadership may be kept abreast of the views of parents and feed back to the parent body. To encourage liaison between Sekolah Tenby and Tenby International School. In addition, PA Committee members must be available to attend 2-3 meetings a term and have time to work behind the scenes with any preparation or organisation required for supporting school activities/events. This may include several additional meetings with the team to plan initiatives. If you are interested in being a nominee or wish to nominate a parent, please fill in the PA Nomination Form (attached) and return it via e-mail to ipoh@tenby.edu.my by Friday 12th January, 12:00hrs (noon). Please include a passport sized photograph of yourself. Parents may also collect a copy of the PA Nomination Form from Reception. We will publish the nominees in the Newsletter on Friday 19th January and if there are no objections received by Friday 26th January, we will put the nominees names to a vote if there are more than the number of representatives required. Details of any voting will be provided later through the School Newsletter. The PA Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday 10th February at 10:00hrs in the Auditorium. All parents are welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you there. Car Sticker Replacement This month, we will begin the process of replacing car stickers. A form (one form per family) will be sent home next week via the youngest or only child in each family. Please complete the form and return it via the form/class/homeroom teacher by Friday 12th January. Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) Please note that CCAs will begin on Monday 8th January. Registration in the ENGAGE Parent Portal is extended to Saturday 6th January at 18:00hrs. Any further request of changes, please email doug.foo@tenby.edu.my Currently there are a few CCAs on offer that require more participation from students, they are the Primary & Secondary Ultimate Frisbee CCA on Tuesdays and Secondary Football on Fridays. We hope parents/students will consider these on offer to ensure these CCAs will not be cancelled.
Payments for Co-Curricular Activities From Monday 08.01.18 to Friday 12.01.18 Ipoh Bug will be in the Main Foyer, Meru Campus from 07:30hrs 09:00hrs to collect CCA Fees for the following CCAs: Basketball Badminton Table Tennis Taekwondo Football Coaches will also be collecting fees during CCA time. To reduce the congestion at the roundabout we urge parents who wish to go to Blocks A, B & D to enter the roundabout from the Immigration Department and for those who wish to go to Reception / Admin Block, to enter the roundabout from Meru Desa Park.
