2 ESSEC Business School, The Pioneering Spirit CREATED IN 1907, ESSEC BUSINESS SCHOOL IS AN ACADEMIC INSTITUTION OF EXCELLENCE WHICH THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY HAS BEEN CHARACTERIZED BY ITS PIONEERING SPIRIT. In both full-time education and executive education, ESSEC proposes a wide range of programs to all those wanting to obtain an extraordinary learning experience, strengthen their talent, express their leadership and become truly high-level managers. International Rankings Business Education 2015 #3 Master of Science in Management #6 Master in Finance #12 Executive Education Programs A centennial institution with a wide network of academic and corporate partners throughout the world, ESSEC has opted to focus its strategic development on three principles: innovation, involvement and internationalization which compose the three axes of the ESSEC 3i strategy that will be implemented from here until 2020. An institution nourished by research and committed to an ambitious development of alliances with leading institutions, ESSEC constantly strives to bring its students face to face with cutting-edge knowledge at the crossroads of discipline and to provide them with the latest technologies. Hallmarked by a profound humanistic tradition, ESSEC has succeeded not only in making the link between business and society a major subject of research, but it is also one of the fundamental components in the training of responsible managers. ESSEC thereby affirms the necessity of putting innovation, knowledge and the creation of value at the service of the wider community. With students coming from 84 different countries, a largely international faculty body and a campus in the Asia-Pacific region since 2005, ESSEC is both an international and multicultural institution. This internationalization is strengthened by the building of a new, 6,500 m2 campus in Singapore and the implementation of development projects in Africa and Latin America. These three axes innovation, involvement and internationalization forge ESSEC s learning philosophy that is common to all its programs: accompany our students throughout a learning journey aimed at opening them up to new, unthought-of opportunities. 4 Foreword by the Academic Director Rapid economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region has dramatically impacted the healthcare sector. There is a growing demand for accessible, high-quality healthcare services and therapeutic innovations, as well as a concurrent demand for health insurance that includes universal healthcare. The Asia-Pacific region has become increasingly attractive to the global healthcare industry, especially at a time when historical markets are maturing. At the same time, Asian governments, particularly Singapore s, understand the importance of encouraging innovation in life sciences to enhance their citizens health and contribute to the country s economic growth. The MSc in Management of Health Industries program aims to train future managers for the healthcare industry and equip them with expertise and knowledge specific to Asia-Pacific. This unique program focuses on the need for exceptionally specialized executives in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. We developed the program based on ESSEC s experience in research and education for the industry, as well as the talent needs of the industry in the Asia-Pacific region, as told to us by industry leaders and our corporate partners. The program is intensive altogether, more than 400 hours but customized to allow professionals and graduates to further their career while continuing to improve their skills and knowledge. It allows them to lead successful careers in a strategic industry by equipping them with cross-functional management skills and technical, analytical skill sets. We have tailored the program to meet the needs of both the industry and participants while maintaining high academic expectations. Program participants can also leverage the rich experience and strong networks of the Institute of Health Economics and Management (IHEM) at ESSEC. IHEM established its Asia-Pacific branch in Singapore in 2011, striving to develop educational programs that target high-level policy decision-makers and executives from the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. It has successfully held three international forums in Singapore and Shanghai, bringing together policy decision-makers, company executives, academics and healthcare professionals to discuss issues related to improving healthcare access and matching innovations to the needs of different populations in the Asia-Pacific region. On behalf of ESSEC Business School and IHEM, I welcome you to the MSc in Management of Health Industries program. Following the successful First and Second Health Policy Decision-Makers Forum Asia-Pacific (the Forum) in Singapore and Shanghai, we held the third Forum at our newly inaugurated Asia-Pacific campus on 5 and 6 June 2015. It attracted more than 100 participants from across the region and addressed the following topics: Policy models considering their spill-overs and compatibility with sustainable and affordable access to care Experiences and concerns from global companies investing in the Asia-Pacific region Diversity of solutions for the region in light of varied economies and healthcare systems Health Business and Society (HBS) Public Talk Series The Health, Business and Society (HBS) Public Talk series aims to facilitate and disseminate insights to the industry s stakeholders, so as to deliver meaningful recommendations to both public and private policy decision-makers. Since 2014, we have successfully held 10 public talks, featuring speakers from academia as well as the public and private sectors. Health Technology Assessment Workshop This executive workshop by IHEM is designed for executives in charge of shaping and implementing rules and regulations for access to healthcare technologies in their respective countries (e.g. policy makers, national and regional health authorities, health insurers and healthcare providers). It aims to provide participants with a practical framework for Health Technology Assessment based on precise definitions and standard methods. The workshop also makes use of case studies to showcase past successes and failures, allowing participants to draw lessons so as to benefit their own respective systems. Health Sciences has been one of the major domains prioritized by the government of Singapore. The city-state is a major hub for life sciences research. Major healthcare companies have found in the country an extremely favorable environment to locate their operations for the Asia-Pacific region, and investment in higher education, including medical and business schools, is impressive. This promises both a stimulating environment for ESSEC Business School and an exciting opportunity to connect with all Asian major markets. 14 ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific Asian Insights and Global Perspectives In 2015, the number of students seeking higher education exceeded 200 million globally, double the number reported in 2000. This increasing demand, much of which derives from Asia s developing economies and greater student mobility worldwide, means that educational opportunities on the continent are changing in both scope and location. Singapore s dynamic economy and its position as a multicultural and educational hub allows ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific to respond to the burgeoning demand for management education in Asia. The majority of our programs have a strong pan-asian core with an international perspective. We believe that our learning approach encourages our students to look at the world differently. Our focus is on developing innovative thinking and entrepreneurial skills, which are in increasingly high demand around the world. The establishment of the Singapore campus, at Nepal Hill, is very much in line with the ESSEC 3i Strategic Plan. Singapore is the perfect location for the school to operate from and expand its activities in the region. In addition, the One-North area around Nepal Hill has been developed to promote entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, skills and talent development. Prof. Martine Bronner Dean of ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific At ESSEC Asia-Pacific, we meet the needs of our participants by leveraging the expertise of our world-class faculty and delivering a unique learning experience that helps develop the ethos and dexterity required to navigate a constantly evolving, globalized work environment. Nepal Hill Campus With the support of Singapore s government agencies, ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific has built a five-storey, 6,500 m 2 campus on 5,430 m 2 of land on Nepal Hill in one-north Business Park. Dedicated to education and innovation, the area houses educational institutions, business incubators and high-tech companies. The facility has tripled ESSEC Business School s training capacity in terms of the number of students and executive education participants as compared to our previous facilities at the National Library Building. Designed by renowned architect Dr Liu Thai Ker, the new campus building was inspired by both European and Asian architectural styles, symbolizing a bridge between two worlds.

www.essec.edu/msc-health-industries The focus on Asia is particularly interesting because of the current context of the growth of the healthcare sector in the region. The professors are very experienced; they made it possible to have very interactive classes. I had great interactions with the program participants, and this makes a unique experience.
