Getting Started - Launching The PowerTeacher 2.8 Gradebook Please use these directions for opening your teacher grade book the first time you try and open your grade book in school or at home. There is a new version and requires a small program to be installed on your machines. You do not need administrative access; all staff can do this at school and at home. 1. Log into PowerTeacher with your username and password. 2. In the blue box, you will see run installer the first time you open grade book. Click on Installer. PLEASE NOTE YOUR WILL ONLY DO THIS THE FIRST TIME YOU LOAD YOUR GRADE BOOK. 3. Then in the area Step 1, click the download installer button. 4. Click on your download button in Safari, you will see it downloading. When it finishes, double-click the file, Gradebook.dmg. 5. A new window will pop up, doubleclick the box to install the program. Getting Started - Launching The PowerTeacher 2.8 Gradebook 6. Accept the warning when it pops up. 7. Click Run when prompted to run the installation program. 8. A box will come up letting you know it has successfully been installed. 9. Now launch your grade book by clicking the Launch button. Page 2

10. Click your downloads button again and then double-click the file, LaunchGradebook.ptg. 11. Click Open in the dialog box. 12. You grade book will open. (Note: You might be asked to Terminate Other Sessions", if you are prompted, click to terminate.) Repeat Steps 9-11 whenever you want to launch your grade book in the future. Page 3

Getting Started - The Process When setting up your grade book at the beginning of the year, three actions need to take place in order to have accurate grading and student reporting: 1. F1 (End of Year Grade): End of Year Final Average - F1 [Set Term Weights (not points) for All Quarters & All Classes] 2. Category + Weighting: Test / Quiz / Home Work / PPRL / Class Work [Set Categories for the current school year] 3. Quarterly Grades: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 and All Classes [Set for Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 and All Classes] Page 4

Setup F1 Final Grade Log into Power Teacher, On the Start page, click Gradebook, Scroll down the page and click Launch Gradebook. Select your first class to work with, then go to the Grade Setup button on the top menu. 1. Double Click on F1 for the Reporting Term 2. Select Term Weights 3. Click into cell to confirm Weight 100, Percent 25.0% for each quarter. Click Save If You Teach Half -Year Classes S1 & S2 - See Page 9 [Set the F1 for each class Use Copy button] Page 5

Copy to F1 to all other classes 1. Right click on F1 and select Copy Grade Setup - - F1 Only 2. Then select Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 as shown below and click next to verify, then click Finish Page 6

Setting Up Categories in Powerteacher By default PowerTeacher lists Homework, Project, Quiz and Tests categories but you need to add Classwork and/or modify to your needs. NOTE: The steps below may vary depending upon your specific needs. Go to the Categories Pane on the bottom left corner. 1. Add or Modify categories as shown on the left. 1. Test 2. Quiz 3. Homework 4. PPRL 5. Classwork 2.Give Category a name and Abbreviation. 3. Adjust the Points Possible if needed. Now that your categories have been created, we need to put them into the Q1 Reporting Term and weight them. Page 7

Setup Quarterly Weighting Q1 Class Go to the Grade Setup button on the top menu. 1. Select a Class (not a homeroom) that want to work with by clicking on the particular period. Go to the Grade Setup button on the top menu. 1. From the Classes Pane select a class to work with. 2. Click on Q1 for the Reporting Term Double Click on Q1 Reporting Term 3. Select Category Weights 4.Click the button to show all categories 5. Select all the categories you want to weight, click OK 6. Now click on the weight for a given category and enter in the percentage. (make sure all categories should add up to 100% when complete) 7. Click the save button on the bottom left corner of your screen. Page 8

Setup Quarterly Weighting Class Copy - Q2, Q3, Q4 Now that grade weighting is set up for the class you selected in Q1, now let us copy our weighting setup to all our other reporting terms. PLEASE NOTE Make sure you are using the most current district uniform grading policy, specific to your subject and grade level as supplied by the office of curriculum and instruction. This document can be found in the curriculum section your OnCourse online lesson planner or your school s webpage located on the district website found at www.irvington.k12.nj.us 1. Right click on Q1 for the Reporting Term or press Control key on keyboard & click at the same time. (This is the setup you will be copying FROM) 2. Click Copy Grade Setup Q1 Only Page 9

Setup Quarterly Weighting Class Copy - Q2, Q3, Q4 3. From the Copy Final Grade Setup Window select Reporting Term Q2, Q3 and Q4 that you will be copying the grade setup TO 4. Click Next, confirm the changes on the next screen and click Finish. Page 10

Quarterly Weighting Setup Mixed Classes / Subjects Please Note: If your weighting is the DIFFERENT for each of your classes then repeat the steps on Page 7 for each class. S1 & S2 Final Grade Setup Half -Year Classes Please Note: If you teach semester courses you don t have an F1 setup. Instead set term weighting for S1 50% and S2 50%. Check For Accuracy F1 - End of Year Grade: My Term Weights are set to Q1 25% - Q2 25% - Q3 25% - Q4 25% If I teach Semester Classes My Weighting is S1 50% - S2 50% This has been done for each of my classes. Category + Weighting: a. My Categories have been added or modified to - 1. Test 2. Quiz 3. Homework 4. PPRL 5. Classwork b. My category weighting has been set to the UGP specific to my subject area and/or grade level for this current school year. Quarterly Grade Weighting: Each of my classes has been weighted for each quarter Q1, Q2, Q3 & Q4. Congratulations you have set up your grade book for this academic year! Page 11
