PROBUS ASSOCIATION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA INC Greetings all. President s Report This will be my last report for the News and Notes as my year in the chair is almost completed. I have fully enjoyed my time in office and will give my report at the AGM in March. I have a further four clubs to visit during the month which I am looking forward to as usual. Just a reminder that Information Day North is on Friday 28 February and the AGM on 28 March both at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, looking for a good attendance at both events and a further reminder for those that may be interested there is still time to send in a nomination for the PAWA committee. I congratulate Winston Marsh presently the Rotary District Probus Chairman for the South of the River on his appointment as the member for WA on the board of PSPL for the next three years. By this time I trust most clubs will have a new full committee all looking forward to a new challenge in particular those coming on board for the first time. I have made many new friends whilst visiting clubs during the year and enjoyed their hospitality and this is what Probus is all about, never forget our Motto FUN, FRIENDSHIP and FELLOWSHIP and may 2014/2015 be another good year for everyone. I remain yours in Probus. Fairley Watson President PAWA Ffairwatso@hotmail.com TABLE OF CONTENTS THIS EDITION AND ATTACHMENTS. * * * * * * CLUB INFORMATION * * * * * * THERE ARE NO SPECIAL CLUB BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES IN MARCH However, we wish all Clubs who are celebrating a birthday/anniversary of any kind this month a happy day. NORTH PERTH/MOUNT LAWLEY PROBUS CLUB It is with regret we report the closing of North Perth/ Mt Lawley Club. The club formation was on 9th February 1983 and they will wind up on 31st March. The reasons are the usual ones: Down to 18 members and cannot form a committee Most members are now in their eighties. Younger members have been resigning to seek greener pastures We are sorry to see you go. GREAT SOUTHERN REPORT A Second Denmark Probus Club It was agreed that Bill G, assisted by Eric, continue with the work they started in liaising with the Regional Probus Representative and the Rotary Club who have agreed to oversee the possibility of forming of a second Club. Online banking After discussion at the January meeting it was agreed that Members be given the option of paying their membership subs, and payment for social events etc, by bank transfer if they wish. This is both convenient and less work for the Treasurer. It was also agreed that future Treasurers have the option of using online banking facilities for payments etc, at their discretion. A Standing Resolution was presented on this matter and passed at the February meeting. Villa Carlotta tour will be visiting Albany on the 4 th of March and joining the Probus Club of Albany for their meeting followed by lunch at a local venue. All Probians are invited to a dinner at the Ace Motel that evening. Regards Graham Kirkwood Great Southern Probus Regional Representative Email: Kirkwood@iinet.net.au 3

CLUB NEWS IPADS/COMPUTERS KEEPING UP WITH THE TIMES During January, 36 ladies from the Cottesloe Ladies Probus Club, did a 4 x 2 hour course on ipads. All the ladies had little or no experience as often they had received an ipad as a gift from a family member. The driving force behind this was the club's Newsletter Editor, Pamela Smart who had attended a similar course, and thought some of our members might be interested, much to everyone's surprise and delight more than half our members were. So Pamela set about making the arrangements with support from The Grove Precinct and tutor Kris Vargos. It was a huge success, a great social occasion whilst we all became more familiar with ipad use and have a certificate to show our grandchildren to prove we attended.
