Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 Click-by-Click Review Guide The Algebra 2 course by Elayn Martin-Gay is shown in this document. The functionality of the program works the same for MyMathLab Algebra 1; however the content will differ. Starting on page 2, the gray shaded boxes in the left hand column coincide with the left hand navigation tabs in the online course. Website: www.mymathlab.com Login: mmlalgebra Password: learnmath1 MY ACCOUNT HOME PAGE Click Martin-Gay, Algebra 1 or Martin-Gay, Algebra 2. On the account home page, click on your desired course. PROGRAM HOME PAGE This is where the teacher can post announcements, including such things as homework reminders and instructions for class projects. NOTE: The student view is the same except the Control Panel button is viewable by teachers only. Click on Homework in the left hand navigation bar.

HOMEWORK This is where a student would see all homework, quizzes and tests that a teacher has assigned. To see what a typical problem looks like, click on a Homework assignment and then click on a problem. Problem View This is the view that students get when they do work in their personalized Study Plan (see below) or in a homework assignment. All problems have interactive study aids: Help me solve this guides students through step-bystep solutions. Students then practice a similar problem with different inputs. View an example shows students a similar example. Students follow along as a step-by-step solution is explained. Textbook shows the pages in the etext for additional instruction and support. In addition, the Videos, Animations, and Calculator tab are shown when available. When finished viewing problem, click close. (NOTE: The interactive learning aids can be individually and selectively turned off by the teacher for homework, as desired.) Close out of the problem, exit out of Homework, and Go back to the Program Home Page. Click on the Control Panel in the left hand navigation. Click on Homework & Test Manager. (See below for more information on the Control Panel)

Homework & Test Manager This is where a teacher can create an assignment. Click on the Create Assignment dropdown menu, select Create Homework, and follow the instructions to walkthrough the creation process. Notice that a teacher can create a homework, quiz, test, or media aid assignment (e.g. video, animation). To narrow down the number of problems available for each assignment, you may use the chapter, section, and objective level filters. Standards View When creating an assignment, a teacher can view the course content in the context of how problems align to state standards. Click on Create an Assignment, and choose Homework. Name the Homework assignment and click Next. At the top of the page there are two yellow tabs. Click on Standards View. This allows the teacher to create Homework, Quizzes, and Tests that are aligned to state and ADP standards for Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. Close out of the Homework/Test Manager. Go back to the Program Home Page. Click on the Quizzes & Tests in the left hand navigation bar. QUIZZES & TESTS This is where students work in assigned quizzes and tests and in sample tests available from the sample test bank. Teachers can create and assign their own tests or copy tests from the sample test bank and assign those (see below for the Homework and Test Manager). Test results drive the development of each student s personalized study plan (Summer 2010: results of assigned tests can generate personalized homework assignments based on each student s assigned test performance).

STUDY PLAN A student can independently work in the Study Plan for practice and review. The results of a pre-test populate a personalized study plan with the following icons: o A "needs more work" icon ( or ) shows material the student needs to study. o A "ready to retest" icon ( ) indicates that the student answered all the practice questions correctly. o After successfully taking a practice or assigned test, a mastery icon (either or ) shows that the student has mastered the material. NOTE: work in the Study Plan will be auto-graded and captured in the teacher Gradebook (see below). Customizing Study Plan Coverage: Each course is organized by chapter, section and objective level. A teacher can customize the coverage of the Study Plan, if desired (see below). Exit out of the student Study Plan view. Go back to the Program Home Page. Click on the Control Panel in the left hand navigation. Click on Study Plan Manager. (See below for more information on the Control Panel) Study Plan Manager The Study Plan Manager allows the teacher to select the topic coverage of the course by turning content on/off. The number of problems that appear in the Study Plan in addition to a required mastery level for each topic can also be set (for example, a teacher can require 80% mastery to earn a graduation cap versus 100% mastery, if desired). (Click on Select Coverage or Mastery Options from the Study Plan Manager home page).

etext & VIDEOS The etext that comes with this program links directly to lesson- and example-level videos, animations, and You Try It exercises. Highlighting and notetaking tools ensure students remember key learnings. MULTIMEDIA LIBRARY The Multimedia Library includes section, objective, and example-based videos, Interactive Concept Check videos, chapter test prep videos, the complete etext, PowerPoints, and animations. All videos are by Elayn Martin-Gay, providing one voice" to the student. TOOLS FOR SUCCESS Tools for Success is a page where students get: The Student Organizer (as a download here and also available in print), which helps students develop study and note-taking skills and provides step-by-step modeled exercises, and problem solving strategies. Study Skills Builders Videos that develop effective study habits. English/Spanish Audio Glossary Chapter Test Prep Videos with step-by-step solutions to every exercise from each Chapter Test in the etext. Study Cards with summaries of key concepts in the etext Graphing Calculator Help Translating Word Problems Activities

CONTROL PANEL (Instructor View Only) Click on Control Panel in the left hand navigation. The Control Panel is the teacher s dashboard and where the following can be found: Instructor Resources (see below) Gradebook Study Plan Manager Homework/Test Manager Management/communication settings Many other resources A few of these items are described in more detail below - Gradebook and Instructor Resources. Click on Gradebook All work done by the student is auto-graded and scored, and performance data is tracked in an online Gradebook, which also has reporting capabilities. The gradebook tells the teacher where the areas of greatest difficulty are for each student and for the class as a whole. The teacher can view data such as number of attempts and time spent on each problem. The gradebook also tracks students progress on their personalized study plans.
