ASTUR EDUCATION MADE IN GERMANY Member of Partner of The contents of our language programmes are compliant with the European Standard EN 14804 Changes to the previous year not for publication! + For students aged from 12 years old instead of 11 years old + From 8 days / 7 nights instead of from 7 days / 6 nights. Additional weeks are like before (7 days / 7 nights) + Arrival and departure on Sunday instead of arrival on Sunday / departure on Saturday + Lessons during the week, 4 lessons every morning for 5 days instead of 5 lessons every morning for 4 days + Day trip on Saturday instead of a working day Due to the departure being on Saturday, up till now the day trip, which is a fundamental part of the programme, had to take place during the week. In turn, that meant that the 20 lessons of language lessons a week had to be shared across the remaining work days (4 days with 5 lessons a day) From 2017 an extra day will be added to the basic one-week course (departure on Sundays), so that the day trip will always take place on Saturday. On workdays there will be 4 lessons of language classes a day (5 days with 4 lessons a day). This means that there will be less learning stress for students with fewer lessons a day. If a public holiday occurs during the course dates, the lessons on the day concerned will be shared across the other working days of the week. The public holiday will be incorporated into the free time programme.
What to expect on the language camp in Augsburg Arrival and Accommodation The arrival and departure day on the language camp in Augsburg is always on Sunday. Your parents will either bring you to the youth hostel by car, or you will come by plane to Munich, or by train to Augsburg ICE train station. If you arrive or depart by plane or train, we recommend you to sign up for a transfer to/from the youth hostel as early as possible upon booking. You will then be picked up punctually and won t need to worry about anything. Depending on your age, if you have booked a UM service (UM = Unaccompanied Minor) with your airline, you should also book the UM service for an extra fee additional to the transfer to the camp as early as possible with us, as airport checks and procedures are long and complicated. Please organise your arrival and departure so that you check in between 14:00 and 17:00 and check out between 08:00 11:00. Lunch is not included in the price of your arrival and departure day. If you need it due to early arrival or late departure times, you can book this for an additional fee. For arrivals and transfers outside the allotted times there will also be a surcharge. Residential accommodation in the youth hostel In the youth hostel, you will stay in a modern 4 bed room with other international students. Showers and toilets are located in the corridor. Depending on travel dates students of the same nationality may be accommodated in the same family, and depending on the time of travel more than one student of one nationality may live with one family. In order to improve your German language skills best, you have the option to book accommodation as the only guest of your nationality for an additional fee. Please be aware that on arrival at the youth hostel we must receive a deposit of 50 euros per student. This will be returned to you when you leave the camp, providing that you have left everything in order, e.g. you have not lost the room key. As we offer full board to our students, you will begin the day with a good breakfast in the morning. You can choose what you would like to eat from a buffet. After lessons every student will have a lunch break before the afternoon activities. Whether you eat lunch in the youth hostel or have a packed lunch will depend on the timings of the subsequent programme. There will always be a hot meal for dinner, when you can fill your plate with food from the buffet. Private Accommodation with a host family In a homestay, our international guests get first-hand experience of life in a German household with its every day culture and typical way of living. Depending on the family and the household, two to four students will live with one family. In a homestay you will also receive full board. You will begin the day with a typical breakfast in the morning. For the afternoon you will be given a packed lunch by your host family, and in the evening the family will cook a hot meal. The host family will find out from you what you like and don t like to eat, and as a bonus, you will also get to know about German cuisine. Whether you live in the youth hostel or with a host family, please let us know in your application whether you are a vegetarian, a vegan or have any other dietary requirement. We will try to accommodate your preferences and cater for individual needs wherever possible.
Language Course Your intensive language course will always take place in the morning with 4 lessons a day for 5 days. German students learn English or French, and students from other countries learn German. At the beginning of every week each student will take a placement test in their chosen language, which the teachers will use to help them with preparation for the lessons. Even though we will separate the groups by level when possible, sometimes, depending on the booking situation, different levels will be taught in the same class together. However, this will have no great effect on your ability to learn, as at home after all you also have different levels in your class at school. Our teachers are experienced in preparing the best lesson material appropriate for each individual student. There is also always a maximum of 15 students in our classes, so lessons are manageable and give you the opportunity to actively participate in class a lot more than you can at school. Learning to use the language actively is the primary aim of the lessons. Our teachers create their own motivating, cultural and original lesson plans. They can be about a whole range of topics that are taken from real life in the form of discussions, role plays, interviews and other active elements. You will simply be able to speak and you should seize this opportunity as speaking the language will aid your learning success and motivation and allow you to take further steps with the language in the future. Your vocabulary and knowledge of grammar will also automatically expand and improve not only through rote learning, but also through speaking and listening. Our teachers are native speakers. That means that they do not only speak the language fluently, but they have an ingrained understanding of their native culture. Moreover, they have experience in communicating their language to students from other countries. We teach from levels A0 (beginner without previous knowledge), respectively A1 (beginner with little knowledge in French) up to B2 (Upper Intermediate) in accordance with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). We have different lesson material for every level, and the certificate that you receive at the end of your stay will indicate at what level and for how many hours you were taught. Free Time and Supervision It is our policy to always offer a range of activities and programmes to our students. Every afternoon you will have a varied programme of activities. Together with all the other international students, you will have fun exploring the sights of the town or participating in sports activities. After dinner there is an evening activity in the youth hostel; sometimes you will be dancing together at a party or taking part in other activities. Just like in the afternoons, you will also have the opportunity to practise your foreign languages here, as you will want to get to know the students from other countries. If you are living with a host family, you will spend your evenings with them. The host families will be concerned for your own interests and welfare and integrate you in their everyday life. You might cook together with the family or play a typical board game. In addition, on one evening every week, the students will go to a typical German restaurant all together. Every day ends with our daily feedback session Time to Talk (TTT) before our students go to bed. Here, you can share what you have especially liked or did not like so much in the day with your leaders. You can ask questions, and you will be told about any relevant information for the next day.
The highlight of the week, and a lovely end for everyone before they go home, is the day trip. You will go to interesting places, such as to Munich, Ammersee, or Füssen, where you will have a tour of the town to see the most important sights, or will visit an exciting museum. Included in the trip to Füssen is a visit and guided tour around Neuschwanstein castle. Other highlights of the day trips are Legoland in Günzburg and Skyline Park in Bad Wörishofen. The free time programme is organised and led by our English, French and German speaking supervisors. There will always be a ratio of ten students to at least one supervisor. Our supervisors will know their students, just as you will get to know your supervisors. They are always there for you to talk to, whether you feel unwell, have a question, or just simply want to have a chat. Furthermore, we have a 24-hour emergency hotline every day which we will react to immediately should there be a bigger problem. Specials In addition to the regular free time programme you can also book an extra activity for two afternoons a week - our specials! We offer various opportunities with qualified and specialised experts: + StreetDance workshop On two afternoons a week you can learn or build upon your former knowledge of StreetDance at the DA F.U.N.K Dance Studio Augsburg, the biggest dance studio in Germany. The coaches at our partner dance studio will start with the basics, show you the best steps and coolest moves, and will give you important tips and tricks! StreetDance is diverse and exciting. Depending on your previous experience, it will combine different forms of hip-hop along with video dancing or will even work on freestyle moves. By dancing to current music, you can copy your stars and role models through choreography. + MultiSport sessions Do you want to play lots of sport with the other students, as well as get to know new types of sport? Then we have the right option for you. In our MultiSport sessions you can take on new challenges and try out different activities every week with our well-established providers. We will always offer two different sports activities a week. They range from badminton to indoor football, from climbing on a high rope course to rafting, and from golf to tennis. The exact programme is always dependent on the weather, but we will plan it so that if you book MultiSport for two or three weeks you will never be bored. If you would like to take part in our specials, you should let us know early as possible when you book your trip. Depending on the sport, the providers responsible need to receive a form of consent from your parents in advance. Service Before the beginning of your stay you will receive a detailed information pack from us about the camp, everything you need to know about arrival, what you should pack and the activity programme. As soon as you check in at the camp, you will receive your ID card with all the important contact numbers, so that you can reach your supervisors by telephone if you need to. In the reception of the youth hostel there is free Wi-Fi. In a homestay you can also get access to Wi-Fi, but ultimately this is the responsibility of your host family.
If you come from a non-eu country, you will probably require a visa for which you need proof of a valid medical insurance. You can secure third party, medical and accident insurance through us upon booking, but it is imperative that you contact us before you start applying for the visa. Day Camp If you come from the area, are on holiday with your parents nearby, or you can stay with relatives and don t require accommodation, you can take part in our day camp programme. You will arrive punctually for language lessons in the morning from Monday to Friday, have lunch and dinner and take part in the afternoon and evening activity programme. As a day camper you can also book our specials and the day trip on Saturday. However, we need to know this as early as possible upon booking so that we can plan for exact numbers.
