Baltimore City Public School System Circular No. 39 Baltimore, Maryland Series 2006-2007 Office of the Chief Executive Officer May 24, 2007 BCPSS Calendar for the 2007-2008 School Year TO: Officers, Directors, and Principals FROM: Charlene C. Boston, Ph.D., Interim Chief Executive Officer Please distribute this circular to all staff members, and other stakeholders as appropriate. Circular No. 39, Series 2006-2007 supersedes all other school year 2007-2008 calendar information published since the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners approved the calendar on February 3, 2007. The Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) 2007-2008 school-year calendar includes special dates for examinations, report cards, and closing activities; testing calendar; and a single-page summary of holiday closings. Communicating this information widely is important so that all BCPSS stakeholders can have advance notice for scheduling purposes. ighlights of the 2007-2008 school-year calendar include the following: School-based administrators return on, August 3, 2007. The 2007 CEO s Academy will take place on, August 4, 2007. Ten-month BCPSS employees return on, August 22, 2007. Schools open for on, August 27, 2007. The school year will include ten whole-day professional development days. Six early-release days for ALL are included to promote more flexible scheduling of parent conferences as a systemwide activity during report card distribution windows. Because high school examinations require longer administration time and teachers must be given sufficient time to grade the examinations for appropriate entry into SASI, an additional six scheduled earlyrelease days for high school ONLY during mid-term examination days (January 5-, 2008) and final examinations days (June 4-6, 2008) are included in the 2007-2008 school calendar. If necessary, activities associated with records management can be conducted on any early-release day. The calendar for school year 2007-2008 includes a Mayoral Primary Election Day on, September, 2007, a Mayoral General Election Day on, November 6, 2007, and a Presidential Primary Election Day on, February 2, 2008, when schools are closed. The igh School Fair has been scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2007, the last day of American Education Week.

Circular No. 39 Series 2006-2007 Page 2 If there is no need to close schools because of weather-related emergencies, the last day for will be Thursday, June 2, 2008, when schools will close according to the early dismissal schedule. In the event of weather-related emergency closings, as many as five days will be added to the calendar (Friday, June 3;, June 6;, June 7;, June ; and Thursday, June 9)., December 24, 2007 through, January, 2008 is the winter break, with schools reopening on, January 2, 2008. Friday, March 2, 2008 through Friday, March 28, 2008 is the spring break, with schools reopening on, March 3, 2008. Special Dates and Testing Calendar information for the 2007-2008 school year are attached to this circular. To avoid schedule conflicts, please do not program back-to-school activities on the evening of, September 25, 2007, which is an announced date for a public business meeting of the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners. jmp Attachment (5 pages)
