Shane Broadway 201 S.E. 2 nd Bryant, Arkansas 72022 (501) 944-2382 shane-broadway@sbcglobal.net Experience Interim Director, Arkansas Department of Higher Education Feb. 2011-Present Focused the agency on coordination and communication with the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Institutions of Higher Education, Governor s office, General Assembly, media, business and industry and the public at large, often presenting on behalf of the agency at state, regional and national meetings and conferences Worked to streamline the financial aid process for parents and students, and has reduced administrative costs each year since 2010. Led the development of an outcomes-based funding model, in collaboration with the Institutions of Higher Education. Led the agency through the renovation and transition to new agency office building. Agency is presently working to streamline our Institutional Finance process to reduce time and resources of the agency and institutions. Member of the Governor s Workforce Cabinet that developed and has taken the lead on Arkansas s STEM Initiative. Worked with Department of Education to establish meetings between K-12 faculty and college faculty to discuss College and Career Ready Standards. Application approved for a $1 million grant from Complete College America for the redesign of remedial education by faculty and staff of the institutions. Application approved for grant from Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation for the expansion of the Career Coach initiative. Applications approved for renewal of College Access Challenge Grant. Grant received from the Kresge Foundation to develop Credit When It s Due reverse transfer system in partnership with Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges and Arkansas Research Center. Agency has received award from the Center for Digital Government for the development of the nation s first mobile application for financial aid applications. Along with staff, has successfully managed two regular and one fiscal legislative sessions. 1 P age

Deputy Director, Arkansas Department of Higher Education Jan. 2011-Feb. 2011 Duties included supervising divisions within the agency and day-to-day oversight of the agency, while representing ADHE at the Southern Regional Education Board, as well as state and national initiatives. Coordinated efforts between the Director, Governor s office and Institutions of Higher Education regarding the agency s legislative package and funding recommendations. Co-Coordinator of Economic Development Saline County Development Corporation (SCEDC) Feb. 2006-Dec. 2010 Duties included the reestablishment of the county s economic development efforts, and redeveloping relationships with local, state, regional and national economic development and educational organizations. Development of sites for marketing, including the state s first certified Mega Site. Developed partnerships with local industrial and educational entities to define workforce needs and development of strategy to fulfill those needs. Responded to proposal requests for possible site location for projects such as Hewlett-Packard and the Boys Scouts of America National Jamboree. Chairman-Southern Legislative Conference 2004-05 Provided oversight on matters pertaining to the regional director and the Southern Office of The Council of State Governments and initiated the development of the Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS). CALS was developed in concert with faculty and institutions of higher education from across the region to provide leadership training to leaders in all three branches of state government. The objective of the program is to enhance the participant s leadership knowledge through sessions geared to improve competencies in communication, conflict resolution, consensus building and critical decision-making. CALS is now being administered through the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, a part of the University of Arkansas system.
