The Teachers Service Commission, October 2003- April 2012 Working as a Graduate Teacher I charged with the responsibility of inculcating knowledge, values and necessary skills in High School Students. Besides, I am also charged with; DUTIES: Training students for games, drama and music competitions. Sensitizing students on the need to know their HIV status and learn to uphold responsible sexual behaviour so as to remain negative, or to live positively in the event that they are diagnosed positive. Advocating the need for ethnic integration so the young people depart from the danger of plummeting into the destructive pathway of tribalism through ethnic jingoism and/or chauvinism. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS: There has been a tremendous growth of the sense of independence and responsibility among the young people that I have seen through High School. There has been a clear understanding on the part of my students the need to shun the retrogressive custom of FGM ( for the Kisii girls) and the need to embrace male circumcision (for the Luo boys), for Misambi High School is constituted of learners from these two ethnic groups. Jan - September 2003 Matongo Lutheran Teachers College DUTIES: Teaching PI teachers English Language and Professional Studies. Training interested student teachers the art of writing poetry and drama. Training the student teachers basic computer skills like MS Word, Access and Internet Explorer. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS One student scored an A in English as opposed the previous history of the college whereby such a feat had never been achieved. Learners were able to appreciate the level of language competence I helped inculcate in them, both written and spoken English. ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL INTERESTS: Writing: Co-published a poetry critique titled Semantic Absurdities and Vision for Africa in Jared Angira s Poetry (2010) with Olembo, W.H. and Mugubi, J. I have also written a short stories anthology, The Inevitable Burden & Other Stories (2013). Besides I have sent two journal articles to publishers, and three chapters for books, both in poetry and prose, awaiting publication. Besides, I have written a poetry anthology entitled Cynics and Skeptics (which is in the process of being published this year). Workshops and Seminars: I have participated in several workshops, seminars and lecturers, both at AMUCTA and outside the university (Moi University, Kenyatta Univeristy, Kisii University, University of Dar es Salam) all of which have honed my academic skills and improved my focus as an ambitious academic. Blood Donor: I regularly donate blood both at Kisii Blood Bank in Kisii, Kenya and Kitete Blood Bank in Tabora, Tanzania as part of my resolve to selflessly share this invaluable part of me with the less fortunate in society. HIV/Aids Campaigner: Spreading the message of voluntary tests, responsibility for the affected and infected, in fighting stigmatization and further spread of the pandemic. Healthy Living and Relationships Counsellor: Having read comprehensively and extensively in this area from my secondary school days, consulted adequately and held numerous discussions with both senior citizens and youngsters, my expertise in the area of healthy living (from monitoring the types of foods one takes to the amount and frequency of the same; from undergoing regular medical examinations to taking time to engage is exercise, I have been able to help a lot of people improve their standards of life. Besides, my extensive knowledge in the area of relationships has enabled me to guide several youngsters succeed in cultivating healthy relationships 4
with their both spouses and the extended families. A good number of the people who have benefited from my counselling are now able to peacefully and responsibly support their families. This expertise helped me amicably solve the problem of the child custody case I had with the mother of my daughter on August 20, 2009, when, upon listening to my side of the story and my proposal for the resolution of the same, the Children s Court in Nyamira allowed us to resolve the matter out of court. The resolution I suggested as so far served the best interests of our daughter and our own individual interests as parents. I have been able to successfully replicate this elsewhere when talking to those in the same dilemma. This has helped reduce or completely do away with unnecessary conflicts. Reading comprehensively, both fiction and non-fiction. Searching for information to enrich my scope and depth of knowledge from both the Microsoft Encarta 2014 Premium I have installed on my computer and the internet whenever I have time to do this.
