Part II: Writing from Sources Review: * The Into the Wild essay * The Puritan claims response * Weekly responses with articles * Socratic Seminar activities (for planning) * Concept maps, incorporating quotes, paraphrasing information Overview: * Answer a question/develop a thesis regarding a topic - develop an evidence-based claim * You must read 4 texts (informational texts, charts, graphs, etc.) * You must reference 3-4 of the texts in your essay (textual evidence) - This has been changing, so pay attention to the directions * However many arguments you have will determine how many paragraphs you write - 4-5 paragraph essay - Intro, body paragraphs, conclusion * You MUST address the opposition * You must cite your sources, NOT USING MLA (hahaha!) - (Text 1, line number)

Directions: Closely read each of the four texts provided on pages through and write a source-based argument on the topic below. You may use the margins to take notes as you read and scrap paper to plan your response. Write your argument beginning on page 1 of your essay booklet. Topic: Is the impact of social media on an individual beneficial or harmful? Your Task: Carefully read each of the four texts provided. Then, using evidence from at least three of the texts, write a well-developed argument regarding the impact of social media on an individual. Clearly establish your claim, distinguish your claim from alternate or opposing claims, and use specific, relevant, and sufficient evidence from at least three of the texts to develop your argument. Do not simply summarize each text.
