Many schools made the same decision after looking at the weather forecast, and checking conditions in surrounding areas. As you know, we have a responsibility for ensuring the safety of our children, and our staff as well. Many staff travel a long distance to work at St Catherine s, and fortunately, they were all able to get home safely on Wednesday even though they were only able to recover their vehicles at the weekend! We hope that s it for this year, NO MORE SNOW! We also want to apologise because, although we texted all parents in the morning to say that we were closing early, the message failed to send. The difficulty with the texting system has now been resolved, thank goodness! St Catherine s Catholic Primary School (Hallam)
Issue 23, 5 th March 2018 stcatherines.academy stcatherines.academy/buy @_stcatherines BUNS This Friday it is the turn of Reception to provide the buns. Thank you for your continued support! FRUIT Fruit is available for Key Stage 2 children to buy at morning playtime, it costs 20p per day. You can now buy a Fruit Pass, so that you don t have to remember 20p every day. The Fruit Pass is only available to buy online. Get a colour copy of the newsletter by email, let the office team have your address! Name Our Police Puppy The School Council need your help! We have got an amazing opportunity to name a police puppy! #howcute All you have to do is pay 20p at the office and tick the name you would like. The only thing is this litter have all got to be named with a V. The majority votes will win and one lucky winner will receive a prize! Why we keep asking for your email address We want to be able to stay in touch with you, for example, we want to: * Send you the link to the extended newsletter (which contains information about local events and enrolment); * Let you know the balance on your child s dinner money account; * Forward information about Children s University; * Send information from teachers about events in the classroom. We don t have an email address for the majority of parents, and so we can t rely on email as our main method of electronic communication. THE COST OF TEXTS When we send a text to all parents, our texting system works out siblings to avoid duplicates, and sends 342 texts. That costs us 20.52 every time, and we can only send a very short message; if we send a long message, it costs us double! THE COST OF EMAILS When we send an email to all parents, it costs us NOTHING and we can also attach documents for free. Basically, we want to avoid spending money on texts, we would rather spend our limited budget on things that directly benefit our children. We also want to be able to communicate even more effectively with families, and routinely send you extra information. Please let us have your email address! If we have your email address, it won t stop us texting individual / all parents, if that is what is appropriate. St Catherine s Catholic Primary School (Hallam)

This month s winners will be announced in Merit Assemblies. Don t forget to put your name on your answers!!! Thanks and enjoy the challenge, Mr Mitchell Parent Forum News There will be a coffee morning this Wednesday starting at 9:00am, and there will be a workshop starting at 9:20am Miss Franks and the School Council will join the coffee morning to plan their Healthy Lunch Box session! We have organised a live link that teachers can use to show you the amazing STEM work that is happening in the classrooms. All you have to do is go onto Twitter and you can see a live video of the experiments or work that they are doing - some engineers are coming in too to look at the work in class and give them some critique on their projects. There are a few children who cannot be shown on Twitter because we do not have permission from their parents. Because it is a live event, to avoid any of these children being accidentally shown, they won t be in the classroom for this particular activity. If you have not given permission for your child to appear on school Twitter, you might consider it for this occasion? We will be sending you an individual letter, and totally respect your decision if you decide not to give permission. The teacher will decide the date and time that they are going to link live to Twitter. If we have your email address, we will let you know those details, the evening before it is due to happens. Please join the Parent Forum for a cup of tea and a chat on Wednesday, especially if you want to find out more about School Council and the Healthy Lunch Box initiative!
