Global Opportunities at UANDES (GO UANDES) Chilean Economy "Insights into the Chilean Economy: History and Future Challenges" July 9 th July 27 th, 2018 Santiago, Chile INFORMATION FOR NON-PARTNER UNIVERSITIES About the program Program created three years ago by the School of Business and Economics at Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile (UANDES) The CHILE and UANDES Experience program is an intensive 3-week program, where students get an insight of the Chilean culture and economy, meet Chilean peers and learn the basics of Spanish language. Type of program: Host University 3-week program taught completely in English Language 60 contact hours (equivalent to 8 ECTS credits or 4 US credits) plus additional cultural activities. Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile Universidad de los Andes is a non-profit private research university located on the northeast side of Santiago, Chile. It offers 28 undergraduate programs and 200+ graduate programs. Founded in 1989, UANDES emphasizes innovation, development and all-round education of the students, with a personal dedication. No Spanish knowledge required, program taught completely in English In all UANDES international programs, Chilean students participate actively. This means, students from abroad will share with Chilean peers during all classes and activities. We
believe this is a good situation for both ends, as international students are enriched with Chilean culture though our students and, on the other hand, UANDES students can practice their English and have an international experience on campus. Participants: Lectures / Activities Daily activities: Students from Universidad de los Andes and from Universities from all around the world College London are registered in the program. The students will participate in lectures and activities that will introduce them into the Chilean and Latin American Culture, Politics and Economics. There will be a combination of lectures with other international and Chilean students, and some will be only for them. The cultural activities, both in and off-campus will be with Chilean students from the International Student Association (ARI) and students from different course backgrounds that will also attend the classes. The three weeks will have normally lectures during the morning at UANDES, and optional extra-curricular activities during the afternoon. In some days there are going to be cultural trips within Santiago to visit downtown, cultural activities or others suggested by the same students, according to their academic or personal interests. During the afternoon, students normally have free time, but we will have a student coordinator who will organize optional activities for each weekday. During weekends, the group will have free time for personal time. Assessments and Evaluations Transcript of Records Information package: Visa The program will have three evaluations: Class Participation (15%): In order to approve, participants must attend at least 80% of the lectures and activities. Language test (15%): This Spanish as a foreign language unit evaluation covers all the contents seen during the correspondent weeks Paper and Final exam (70%): The students will choose a specific subject of personal interest seen in Chile, so during the program they will explore the elected topic with contents of the lectures and activities in order to develop the elected topic. - Paper 1 (20%): This paper should be sent the second week of the program on a date to be confirmed - Final Presentation (50%): Students will present to the rest of the class the paper they previously submitted. This activity will take place the last day of the program. At the end of the program, the students will receive a transcript of records which shows (o that provides) the amount of credits obtained during the program. Students will receive a pre-departure package per email. Upon arrival in Santiago they will receive a Welcome package as well. As the program has a duration of two to four weeks, no student visa is required. If any student needs an invitation letter for a tourist visa, UANDES can provide it. It is the responsibility of the student to ask for this letter. Fees: Student Application and Program Fee Tuition fee Total From non-partner University/ Institution $550 USD 3-week $1.450 USD $2.000 USD The program, application and Tuition fee includes: - Spanish Language course (Customized) - Lectures with Business Professors - Lectures in English with guest speakers about Chile, Education, UANDES, etc. - On-Campus facilities (v. gr. Library, Sports) at Universidad de los Andes in Santiago. - Wi fi on Campus - Orientation and Cultural Activities with UANDES and International students - Cultural Activities with the International Relations Office - Cultural Trips and Off-campus Visits - Student coordinator or Buddy and a Program academic coordinator
Refundable policies: Full refund of tuition fees will be made if a GO UANDES program is fully booked, is cancelled, or an application for a visa is rejected. Proof of the visa rejection is required within two weeks from the date of notice. Any student who cancels an enrolment in a GO UANDES program more than four (4) weeks prior to the commencement of that course will have the tuition fees refunded less a cancellation charge equivalent to the 50% of the application and program fee. Any student who cancels an enrolment in a GO UANDES program less than four (4) weeks prior to the commencement of that course will have the tuition fees refunded less a cancellation charge equivalent to the application and program fee. Any student who cancels an enrolment after the commencement of a course is not eligible for a refund of tuition and application Fees. *Universidad de los Andes is not responsible for Accommodation payments or refunds. Optional fees: Accommodation: Universidad de los Andes does not offer on-campus accommodation; however, the International Relations Office can recommend external housing options. Hotel Diego de Velázquez: 3-week stay. $750 USD approximately per person ($1.500 USD approximately the twin room - 2 people). Includes American breakfast, private bathroom, location near the subway. Other housing options can be recommended as well. Arrival Pick-up service at the Airport: UANDES can organize the transportation for the students from and to the airport and assist them on transportation from their accommodation to UANDES: $80 USD approximately
Payment Process: Payments of Application and Program fees should be made payable to Universidad de los Andes in Santiago, Chile and sent via wire transfer in one payment, from the non-partner University a month after sending their application form.
