New Student Information Greetings! Congratulations on your acceptance to the English Language Institute at The University of Texas at Arlington! Important Information: The earliest you can enter the United States is 30 days before the printed program start date on your I-20 form. Check the program start date on your I-20 form. What should you do after receiving your acceptance letter and I-20 form? 1. Apply for an F-1 Student Visa Click on https://fmjfee.com to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee. Apply for your non-immigrant visa at your U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Entering the United States: Bring your passport and Form I-20 when you enter the United States. You will present them to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers when you arrive. 2. Buy your Plane Ticket Before buying your plane ticket, you must check the Latest Date to Arrive below. Please email us your arrival date at ELIinfo@eli.uta.edu so we can schedule a Tuberculosis Test (TB test) date. 3. Activate your NetID: UT Arlington provides a computer account called NetID. You will receive your NetID and the instructions on how to activate it by email from UTA. These instructions will be sent to the personal email listed on your application. Contact your agent if necessary. What is the NetID used for? Campus Wireless network (Wi-Fi) UTA computer Labs MyMav (online payment) UTA email Apply for UTA Housing How to activate your NetID Visit https://webapps.uta.edu/oit/selfservice/ Log in with your NetID and temporary password Click on Activate your NetID Follow the instructions for activation. If you need help, email the Help Desk at helpdesk@uta.edu 4. Housing: Each student must arrange housing before coming to ELI/USA. Finding a place to live on campus Log in to the UTA Housing website at www.uta.edu/housing. Log in with your NetID and temporary password Complete the housing application form online If there is a place available for you, the UTA Housing office will send you a contract. Sign the contract. Check your move-in date. Finding a place to live off campus: Visit http://www.uta.edu/offcampus/resources/off-campus-housing.php Finding a temporary place to live If you do not receive a contract from the UTA Housing office or from an off-campus apartment office, you must look for other housing. 5. Request Airport Pick Up Note: Volunteer airport pick-up service is not guaranteed and is limited by the volunteers schedule. If you need a volunteer to pick you up from the DFW airport, please follow the instructions below: Download the airport pickup form from http://eli.uta.edu/airport_pickup_form.pdf Complete the form and email it to us at ELIinfo@eli.uta.edu 2 weeks before you arrive. A volunteer will email you to confirm your airport pick up service. If you do not receive confirmation from a volunteer, you will need to use a taxi or super shuttle services. Taxi: 972-574-5878. Super Shuttle: 1-800-258-3826. Have your new address written down for the driver. 6. Report your arrival to the English Language Institute Email us your arrival date. Come to the English Language Institute office (Hammond Hall 402) once you arrive. Orientation: Attend a free orientation with English Language Institute during Week One. DO NOT ATTEND UTA INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION! Important Notes Student Health Insurance All international students are required to purchase UTA Student Health insurance. DO NOT PURCHASE HEALTH INSURANCE BEFORE ARRIVING IN THE U.S. Tuberculosis (TB) Test All non-us citizen/permanent residents are required to show proof of a TB test done in the U.S. within the last 12 months. Do not get the TB test before arriving in the U.S. You will be given a schedule to take the TB test when you arrive. With UTA Student Health insurance, the cost of TB testing is covered. Without UTA Student Health insurance, the TB testing fee is $69 and the TB chest X-Ray is an additional of $59. Payment All students should expect to pay tuition and fees for 2 sessions when they enroll. Payment must be paid in full by 11 a.m. of the first day of class of the session. Suggested items to pack Besides your personal belongings, we encourage you to pack the suggested items below as well: Clothing for different Texas weather (very hot and very cold) Traditional clothing from your country to wear to special events such as ELI Cultural Night Prescriptions for medication or contact lenses International Driver License Translated vaccinations certificate
