7 PAI Teacher s Role in Optimizing Competency Based Curriculum Implementation Mohammad Riza Zainuddin STAI Muhammadiyah Tulungagung riza77.zainuddin@gmail.com Abstract The curriculum is an important thing in the world of education, without an educational curriculum will run unbalanced. Competency-based curriculum is an effort in improving the quality of education quality, this is what causes a problem and adjustment of PAI Teachers in teaching and learning process. The existence of the optimal application is done by Islamic Religious Education Teachers by seeking various preparations, methods and other efforts as mentioned above, as well as cooperation among teachers, both Islamic Religious Education Teachers and Counseling Guidance and general teachers. Therefore, efforts are made more on the increase again that the madrasah especially Islamic Religious Education Teachers improve again its cooperation with parents and more students execute themselves with other teachers, especially Teacher Counseling to monitor the problems and development of students. Keywords: Role of PAI Teachers, Implementation of Competency Based Curriculum Introduction Teacher is one of a very noble profession because of an education will not be able to succeed without the existence of teachers, in addition to the head of the madrasah teachers is an important factor that very great influence over the success of the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum, even very determine whether successful learners in learning.

PAI Teacher s Role Reza 114 In realizing the purpose of the imposition of the Competency Based Curriculum that is needed is the teacher that is professional in the meaning of those who have the ability and special expertise educations in so that he could perform the task and function as teachers with maximum capability. 1 According to Agus F Tamyong that teacher professionalism is the educated and trained and has a rich experience in the industry in this course in the education sector religion i.e. create learners who believe and bertanqwa. Educated here in the sense that not only obtain formal education or degrees from education but must also employ various strategies or techniques in teaching and learning activities and the control of the foundations of the Islamic religious education. Basically the obligation of teachers Islamic Religious Education in the Competency Based Curriculum is a guide in the learning process, teachers are expected to know the material which should be studied and in what condition the material must be presented, besides the most important thing is the teachers know the difference between the ability of the individual so that he can adjust the materials to be delivered. The curriculum is an absolute requirement, it means that the curriculum is an integral part of the education or teaching. We can imagine how the form of the implementation of an education or teaching in the schools that do not have the curriculum. 2 In the world of education, also many of the problems associated with the development of science and technology is growing rapidly. These problems must be completed because it can affect the life of the community and must immediately responded by way of changes in the curriculum. Various parties to analyze and see the need to apply the competency based curriculum (the Competency Based Curriculum that can provide the learners with various capabilities that in accordance with the guidance and the demand of reform, in order to answer the challenges of the current globalisation, contribute to 1 M. 115 Edukasi, Volume 05, Nomor 02, November 2017: 113-122 community development and social welfare, flexible and adaptation of various changes. 3 The competency based curriculum is used for memandirikan or to empower the school in developing the competencies that will be delivered in the learners, in accordance with the environmental conditions that require, besides the competency based curriculum is an education program that is designed with the focus on specialization which become expertise. The education system aims to provide the students with a specific expertise that is adjusted with the expertise that belonged to him and adjusted with the level of basic skills owned by the learners, it also gives an opportunity to school principals, teachers and learners to conduct innovation and improvasi in schools, related to the teaching and learning process in schools. The implications of the competency based curriculum at least demanding changes to various aspects of education including school reform which is a concept of the changes toward improving the quality of education. But in reality change has occurred is not an easy thing to do because most schools are not ready with the changes, both in terms of the infrastructure facilities that must be met or from the perspective of the readiness of the learners who still have to adjust with new things in the teaching and learning process. In the implementation of the competency based curriculum teachers Islamic Religious Education also has contributed great because the teachers as facilitators must be able to motivate learners to be active and able to control the material taught. Besides that teachers must also have a very wide view or become teachers who really professional, for example when active disciples then teachers must be steered. Do not to happen teachers would not be able to answer the question of the students. From the above phenomenon is very needed teachers who really professional, because the reality of today many teachers who teach the material that is not in accordance with the expertise he possessed. It also teachers should be able to apply this competency based curriculum with very good in accordance with the design of the previous lessons that he had made. Discussion 1. Understanding the Competency Based Curriculum 3 E. Mulyasa, Kurikulum Berbasis Kompetensi (Bandung: PT Remaja Rosdakarya, 2003) h. 7.

PAI Teacher s Role Reza 116 a. Understanding the curriculum Curriculum term comes from the word "Curriculum" which has the meaning of "a course of study in school or university", the term this curriculum originally used by the Greeks in the field of the Atlantic with the sense of "Distance traveled". 4 While according to the old views (traditional) groups curriculum subjects that must be delivered by the teacher or learned by learners. 5 According to Muhaimin curriculum in a narrow sense is a set of plan or the settings on the content and teaching materials and methods are used as implementation guidelines for teaching and learning activities in schools. 6 From some of the above opinions can be determined that the curriculum is all knowledge, activities or learning experiences are arranged in a systematic methodical received to achieve one purpose. In addition to more easily, curriculum often is liked as the lungs of schools. When the lungs is not good not good nor the school. But the good curriculum is one of the conditions of the existence of a good school. b. The religious education curriculum In accordance with the understanding of the curriculum (like explanation earlier), can be formulated by the curriculum religious education. The religious education curriculum is the ingredients in the form of religious education activities, knowledge and experience and the value of norms and attitudes that deliberately and systematically given to students in order to achieve the goal of religious education or with the formulation of the more simple, curriculum religious education is all knowledge, activity (activities) and experiences as well as the value/norms and 4 H. 117 Edukasi, Volume 05, Nomor 02, November 2017: 113-122 attitudes that deliberately and systematically given by educators to students in order to achieve the goal of religious education. 7 c. Understanding the Competencies While the competencies in the language means skill or ability. 8 While in the terminology is the knowledge, skills and basic values is reflected in the activity of thinking and acting which is done consistently and continuously that can allow a person to be competent in their respective fields, competent here in the sense that have knowledge, skills and basic values to do something. d. Understanding the Competency Based Curriculum Based on the understanding of the curriculm and competencies above, competency based curriculum is a form of the new curriculum that is in the world of education, besides that is a set of the plan and the setting of the competencies and the results of learning and empowerment of educational resources and the development of school curriculum. According to Mulyasa, competency based curriculum can be interpreted as a concept of the curriculum which emphasizes the development of the ability to do (competencies) tasks with certain reform standards, so that the result can be felt by the learners, be mastery of a set of specific competencies. 9 One of the things that need to be understood the teachers to increase the effectiveness of the implementation of the curriculum in schools is that all human beings are born with a sense of want to know who is never satisfied and they all have the potential to satisfy curiosity, besides the task of teachers is the most important is how the condition learning environment in order to generate a sense of want to know all the students so that the growing interest and desires to learn. 7 Zuhairini dan Abdul Ghofir, Metodologi Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam, ( Malang: UM Press, 2004), h. 42. 8 M Uzer Usman, Menjadi Guru Profesional,( Bandung: Rosdakarya, 2002), h. 14. 9 Ibid., h. 39.

Remember learning is the process of learners build the idea or the understanding of themselves, then teaching should determine the appropriate strategy for learning, in the sense that the learning environment must allow learners actively involved. Does not mean that help learners too early, but appreciate effort learners even though the results were not satisfying and challenging learners so do/think better.
