All children went home happy from the selfless generosity of so many individuals and organizations.

It was an opportunity to showcase this program which began this school year, while we recognized 10 students, one parent and one teacher. Thank you to Ms. Zaldua, the parents, PTSA and the rest of the Pinecrest family for their warm welcome. Thank you also to Ms. Rodriguez, South Region Director, and Ms. Book, Miami-Dade Public Library who provided valuable information. It was a treat to visit R.R. Moton and have an opportunity to converse with parents and members of the community. Ms. Anna Rodriguez, South Region Director, joined Dr. Mayra Ventura, Assistant Principal, and me in recognizing 10 students, one parent and one teacher. The theme was public conversation and self confidence. Students were animated and involved in exercises conducted by our guest speakers: Mr. David Brownstein, Make A Sound, and Mr. Juan Espinosa, Theatre Instructor, South Dade Senior. The meeting concluded with holiday cookie decorating. Many thanks to Mr. J.C. De Armas, Principal, and Ms. Susana Salazar, Activities Director, for hosting the December meeting. The parents were welcomed with a delicious breakfast and student performances. It was beautiful to see the strong parental support, engagement and the relationship that exists with the administration and staff. After conversation and awards recognitions, I visited the fourth grade Around the World Event. The students did a great job transporting me to different countries, such as, India and Brazil. A big thank you to Mr. Raul Calzadilla, Principal, Ms. Carmen Monge, Magnet Lead Teacher, classroom teachers and the rest of the Air Base family for their hospitality and outstanding work. Monthly Electronic Newsletter - Page 6 of 8 DISTRICT 9 TOWN HALL & AWARDS CEREMONY @ MIAMI PALMETTO SR The first Town Hall of the 2017-18 school year was held at Miami Palmetto Senior High School. The audience was entertained by the beautiful sounds of the school s Jazz Band and Orchestra, as well as, performances by the Drama Troupe, a Drama Soloist and Palmetto El Cheerleaders, Palmetto Middle Dancers and Pinecrest El chorus. As customary, two students from each of the District 9 schools were recognized with a medal for their academic or citizenship achievements. Numerous special recognitions were also presented to selected schools for their efforts with the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the South Dade Farm Share Food Drive. Also recognized were four Special Olympics medalists and one student for her humanitarian efforts from Miami Palmetto Sr. Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava and Christ Fellowship were presented with Ceremonial Proclamations for their generosity; and a student from School for Advanced Studies, Homestead was presented with the Making a Difference Award. Joining me that evening were: Councilmembers, Ms. Karyn Cunningham, Village of Palmetto Bay, Mr. Roger Coriat, Town of Cutler Bay, Ms. Barbara Mendizabal, South Region Superintendent, and Ms. Anna Rodriguez, South Region Director.
