Choosing between HL & SL Courses Make your choice based on interest and motivation. Ask lots of questions today about each subjects differences by level. Speak with your counselor. Research what colleges are looking for.

What To Expect Internal Assessments (IA s) occur in every course spread out over the two years. All students are expected to complete all IA s for all courses. The IA in each course carries a different weight towards the course grade. External Assessments (EA s) occur in the first three weeks of May in the senior year. The only classes that do not have EA s in May are Visual Arts and TOK. All students are expected to complete all EA s for all courses. The IA in each course carries a different weight towards the course grade. Required Group 4 Project in Fall/Winter of junior year. Scheduled CAS meetings every cycle. Extended Essay process starts 2nd semester of junior year and finishes end of 1st semester senior year.

IBDP Preparation *All underclassmen courses are back mapped from the corresponding IB courses. *Mock IB Assessments - both written and oral *Modified rubrics with common language *Introduced IB terminology (IA, EE, WA, IOC, IOP, etc)

Program Structure Diploma Candidacy: Complete 3 Higher Level (HL) courses, 3 Standard Level (SL) courses, Theory of Knowledge course, Successful completion of CAS, and an Extended Essay Diploma Candidacy Alternative: Complete 4 HL courses instead of 3 HL courses along with all other diploma requirements listed above. Course Candidacy: Complete an 6 IB courses with one from each group including up to 3 HL s, Theory of Knowledge Year 1, and 60 hours of CAS

Diploma Program Awarding Each course from Groups 1-6 are awarded scores from 1 to 7. Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay are worth up to 3 bonus points. The magic number is 24 points. Candidates must also meet the following criteria: Completion of CAS. Earn a passing grade in TOK and EE. Earn at least 12 total points from the HL courses. *Earn at least 12 points from highest 3 HL courses if taking 4 HL s. Earn at least 9 total points from the SL courses. *Earn at least 6 points from 2 SL courses if taking 4 HL s. Earn no more than 3 scores of 3. Earn no more than 2 scores of 2. Earn no scores of 1. Submit all required IA s and EA s.

GRADUATION CREDITS Students will take close to or earn more than 7.0 credits during their junior and senior years. Students will earn a minimum of 25.98 credits by graduation, exceeding the district s 24 credits required for graduation. Students can earn a Downingtown diploma AND an IB Diploma. If the IB Diploma requirements are not met, students can earn an IB certificate that lists the content areas along with their Downingtown diploma.

STEM Academy Course Weighting GPA Quality points earned upon the final = course grade Total credits attempted Pre Diploma level, Pathway, and IB Standard Level courses have an additional 0.5 weight. IB Higher Level Courses will have an additional 1.0 weight. [THIS MEANS THAT MOST COURSES AT STEM WILL RECEIVE THE EQUIVALENT OF HONORS OR AP WEIGHT]

NON-IB MUSIC COURSES All Band, Orchestra, and Choir students must enroll in the Seminar only option in their Junior and Senior year.
