MISSION & GOALS GOALS Northwest Georgia College & Career Academy Quarterly Report December 17, 2014 The mission of Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy (NWGCCA) is to develop a 21st century workforce through world-class Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE). Performance Based Goals & Measurable Objectives: Goal I: To implement and expand CTAE exploration course offerings for middle school students in grades 7 and 8. Completed Goal II: To increase student exposure to CTAE pathways, work place experiences and postsecondary education opportunities. Goal III: To provide access to End of Pathway Assessments. Completed Organizational & Management Performance-Based Goals: Goal I: To ensure all high school CTAE courses are aligned with forecasted employment and economic data. In Progress Goal II: To provide teachers with exposure and experiences to local business and industry. In Progress PARTNERSHIPS Business/Industry Partnership DEM (Design, Engineering, & Manufacturing) Middle School Summer Camp NWGCCA in partnership with 15 industry and community partners including the Boys/Girls Club and Greater Dalton Chamber, hosted a summer camp for middle school students June 2-6, 2014. The four-day camp had 62 participants. Students designed 3D drawings, fabricated race cars, utilized laser engraving technology, designed carpet, built/programmed robots, built a hover craft and learned electronics skills. In addition, the students toured advanced manufacturing facilities learned precision measurement skills, explored careers related to a personality profile, and learned soft skills. Explore Experience In partnership with the Greater Dalton Chamber and local businesses/industry, the NWGCCA provides high school juniors with 3-day job shadow experiences. Mechatronics Pathway Development In partnership with the floorcovering industry and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, the NWGCCA helped develop a Mechatronics Pathway for the State of Georgia that was approved by the Georgia Department of Education on May 9. The Program is in its second year and is under the leadership of Mr. John Warren, a chemistry and nuclear engineer by education and profession. In the 2014-15 school year there are 50 students preparing for a future in a STEM field by participation in the Mechatronics course at the NWGCCA.

Partnerships formed with Mohawk Industries, Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Dalton State College, Murray County High Schools, Dalton Utilities and 97 other business and industry partners. Representatives of these businesses signed letters stating that they would work to find ways financially and otherwise to support the goals of Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy. On Monday, August 11 th, 2014, members of Shaw Industries Learning Academy, kickstarted the Leadership Development Series at Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy. This new program is designed to inform and strengthen students nontechnical skills for the workplace, also known as soft skills. With The Academy focusing on career knowledge development and abilities, skills related to everyday work behavior is just as vital to an employee s repertoire as the actual physical knowledge to successfully and professionally complete tasks. Dave Moeller, CEO of The Academy, has organized guest speakers from various business and secondary education partners, like Shaw, to brief students on varying skills that are often over-looked but are essential in the work place. Topics for the seminars include Discipline and Character, Oral and Written Business Communication Skills, Appearance and Professional Image, Personal Responsibility, and Self-Management Performance. Contributing to the Leadership Development Series, the student body and faculty participate in a Professional Dress Day on the scheduled day of the monthly seminars. All participants arrive dressed to impress as if they were interviewing for a genuine job. Faculty also focuses on the concerned topics in their classroom instruction to further show the importance of such skills that influence the everyday lifestyle. Approximately LOCAL GRANT 210 students participated in the initial Leadership Development Series program. Whitfield County Board of Education donated approximately 21 acres of land to Georgia Northwestern Technical College for the purposes of building 80,000- square-foot, two-story building on the campus of the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy. BUDGET The Georgia College and Career Academy Project granted NWGCCA $2.61 million which will allow for the expansion of NWGCCA to satellite courses at eight other locations. During 3 rd quarter 2014, Whitfield County Schools will submit reimbursement requests for grant funds that have been spent in accordance with the implementation of our grant. NWGCCA recently completed an annual financial audit of all budgetary records and grant spending. The audit reflected strong compliance with accounting requirements and accounted for all funds. Each month, the NWGCCA Board of Directors reviews budgetary reports related to the grant as well as other appropriated funding.
