Literacy Plan Guide: Reading Instructional Approach Mini-lesson Read Aloud/ Shared Reading/ Interactive Reading Description of Instruction to Occur Grouping Duration Read Aloud: Teacher models when and how a strategy is applied; teaches a skill; demonstrates how a reader thinks in order to understand. Whole class lesson: all students participate 15 20 minutes Differentiated learning: Adult directed/ independent/ cooperative/ collaborative Guided Reading: Teachers work with a group of approximately 6 students of similar instructional level and supports students to strategically problem solve the challenges in a text. This lesson should be based around ongoing data and observations of students in the group. Small group: no more than 6 students is most effective 35-40 minutes Students work with lessening or no adult support to apply skills and knowledge from whole class and small group lessons to other texts. Individualised/paired/small group Reflection Students reflect about learning that has occurred Whole class/small group/ paired/independent 5 10 minutes
