The SPIRIT The voice of The Highland Lakes A&M Club/Foundation No. 73 - January 2011 The Highland Lakes A&M Club is chartered by the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M Happy New Year! The final event of 2010, our Highland Lakes A&M Club Christmas party, was lots of fun and a HUGE Success. Due to the generosity of many of our members, we were able to raise $2040 for the Highland Lakes A&M Foundation during the event. A special thanks goes out to one particular member who matched up to $1000 for any amount over the standard Spirit Sponsor donation of $100. Since this was such a huge success, that same member has offered to do it again this year! Our Foundation s main purpose is to establish and maintain scholarships for those local needy and worthy students (over $104,600 paid to date) and to maintain and encourage the fraternal spirit of friendliness and helpfulness that is traditional among A&M Former Students. We definitely have some great examples of that in our organization! As we ring in the new year, we have some new board members and a new President. Take a look at the bio s for each of them in this newsletter. They are very excited to be serving you and look forward to seeing all of you at our Aggie Functions! There is so much happening as we start this new year, we feel we look forward to making this one of the best years yet for our club! 2011 Highland Lakes A&M Club Golf Tournament Benefiting Highland Lakes A&M Foundation Saturday, March 26, 2011 Horseshoe Bay Resort - Apple Rock Golf Course Horseshoe Bay, Texas The Programs Committee would like to introduce the First Annual Highland Lakes A&M Club Golf Tournament in March! THEY NEED YOUR HELP! WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A SPONSOR OR JUST HELP MAKE THIS A HUGE SUCCESS! Contact Us - board@highlandlakesaggies.com This should be a great time to meet up with your fellow Aggies and their friends! Please sign-up now before we run out of space! Please see the insert for more details and a sign-up sheet.

President s Box Howdy Ags! 2011 is off to a very fast start and we are working hard to help make this year one of the best yet for our club. I am very excited and humbled to be taking on the roll as President of the Highland Lakes A&M Club this year. It is my goal, as well as the board s, to get as many of you participating in our club activities as possible. To that end, we have a group of active members who have more than shown me what it means to be an Aggie outside of College Station. A small group of members took it upon themselves to initiate and drive an idea that I presented at our Christmas party this year - The 1st Annual Highland Lakes A&M Golf Tournament. This small group was jump started this effort by securing a world class golf facility and also starting a sponsorship drive that should benefit our Foundation in a huge way. Their leadership and dedication is a prime example of the characteristics taught to all of us while we were students at A&M. I could think of no better way to start my term as President than to watch and learn as much as I can from these A&M Leaders! THANK YOU! Melanie Wilson 86 77 Dale Klingsporn 83 Page 2

Highland Lakes A&M Club 2011 Officers PRESIDENT Keith Nesrsta, 96 Howdy Ags! My name is Keith Nesrsta, and I am proudly serving as your President. I was previously serving as your VP of Membership and am looking forward to what we as a club can do in 2011! As the son of a Navy Lieutenant, we spent much of my early childhood away from Texas but still called Texas home. Eventually we made it back to San Antonio where I finished high school. After high school, it was on to Texas A&M where I graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. I now work for a San Jose, CA based semiconductor company, Xilinx Inc., as a Business Development Manager for North America. My wife, Angie 97, and I met at A&M, married a year after graduation and now have four wonderful little girls. We currently live in Horseshoe Bay and have been a part of the Highland Lakes A&M Club since we moved down from Dallas 5 years ago. It is my pleasure to serve and look forward to meeting with all our members. Gig em. Jo Zunker, 86 Vice President of Membership I moved to the Highland Lakes area in 2005 and the first thing I did was find this A&M club! Danny Miller, 91 Vice President of Scholarship Howdy! My wife Kim and I moved to the Spicewood area shortly before our daughter, Shelby, was born in July of 2002. We also have a son, Josh, that was born in October of 2005. They both are currently attending Spicewood Elementary, where Kim is President of the PTO. Every fall, we diligently work around soccer and other extracurricular activities, in order to make sure we attend football games at Kyle Field. I work in Austin for a local civil engineering firm, LJA Engineering, as a Senior Project Manager, am a first generation Aggie and was a proud member of Heaven s Eleven in the Corps of Cadets. This club has established itself as being an excellent example of generosity throughout the Highland Lakes area, as evidenced by the number of scholarships given out over the last several years. I myself am honored and very excited to be a part of that tradition, which is the most important role of our Aggie club. I expect this year we will have just as many, if not more, well qualified applicants as last year, and I look forward to being able to present a scholarship to those well deserving new Aggie fish.
