All levels of ophthalmic personnel are included in this classification. 29-2057 Ophthalmic Medical Technicians Assist ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions. Most examining boards require proof of good moral character to apply to take the registration, certification or licensure exam. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND DRUG SCREENS Some clinical affiliates are requiring that students submit to a criminal background check and/or drug screen prior to placement. The cost for these tests is the responsibility of the student. Students who are refused by a clinical site due to failure to pass these screenings will not be allowed to progress in the program. TIME COMMITMENT (EXCLUDING BASIC COURSES) Most students spend at least 2 hours outside of class for every hour in class 3 days a week clinical during the fall and spring semesters READINESS CHECKLIST I am in good health and physical condition to meet the demands of the program.
