Master in Management of Musical Events MASTER Programmes

Overview The master programme prepares students for global careers in the exciting and lucrative industry of events in music and in performing arts. This programme offers a wide range of promising careers and promotes understanding of cultures, enriches society, and sustains the legacy of nations. Through methodological and intellectual support of western and regional teachings, students will learn strategic issues vital to cultural aspects in the region and beyond. By learning the technical applications, professional demands, quality and pace of artist and venue management, students will become effective advocates of culture of their own country. Students will expand their understanding about music and other performing arts. By cross-promoting the best of both worlds, students will learn to highlight regional contributions to the west and adapt western forms of live performances as well as create synergies with other arts forms. Through a unique blend of basic theories, lectures, hands-on learning, specialised courses and internships, this programme prepares students to qualify and emerge as leaders and effective decision-makers. Students will excel at making quick decisions through an understanding of cultural policies and structural processes involved in planning, organising and managing tours, events and performances. Our distinctive curriculum will enable students to learn about defining artistic projects, hiring artists, reserving and managing venues, ticketing, creating and implementing production budgets. As part of venue management, students will study the various modes of operations, team supervision and promoting a venue s image. This Master s programme will develop negotiation skills with artist agents, producers and promoters. Students will refine their communications and marketing abilities by defining targets, creating partnerships and driving the commercialisation of venues. By building a public relations campaign, students will learn more about managing relations with old and new media, locally and globally. Our faculty is composed of distinguished professors and working professionals who have achieved worldwide acclaim and impart a thorough knowledge of innovative and contemporary approaches in and venue management. Beyond lectures and seminars, students will participate in workshops with professionals from distinguished cultural organisations and event management companies. We frequently invite guest speakers and visiting lecturers from major international performance venues and artist agencies together with local and regional celebrities and teachers from regional universities.

Master s ThESIS Non-employed students will be required to submit an extended essay based on their internship. Full-time employed students will be required to submit a research based thesis. Structure For nonworking students, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi has integrated a mandatory internship in the second year. The internship will encourage critical thinking and improve students reasoning abilities by blending academic theory with real life work experience. Students will benefit from a greater depth of experience working in a professional environment. The degree in Performing Arts Management is taught in English and covers a total of four semesters across two years. The exclusively designed course schedule includes evening and weekend classes in consideration of students who intend to combine their studies with their work. Assessment & graduation requirements Career prospects Throughout the year, there will be frequent assessment and evaluations. Students will be evaluated on individual assignments, internships presentations, reports and examinations, which usually take place towards the end of every semester. Attendance to all classes is mandatory and it is important that students are punctual and observe university regulations at all times. This degree was launched over 20 years ago in Paris and has been highly successful with professional organisations that recruit graduates for high-profile jobs such as Director of opera house; Administrator of music ensembles, Production Managers and Music Agents. Owing to the growth strategy of cultural projects and performance facilities planned for the UAE and the region. These professions will be in high demand. Graduates can join artist agencies to create development strategies, manage careers and performing arts projects. Other employment avenues include working or collaborating with venues such as concert halls and performance festivals to manage events, programming and marketing tours. Abundant employment opportunities are also present in music ensembles (orchestra, opera and ballet companies). The public sector also constantly seek professionals and consultants skilled at budgeting, programming, controlling and advising on educational and cultural policies in performance arts.

Admission requirements Admission to our master s programmes is selective and competitive and each applicant will be considered on his/her own merit. Our admissions process ensures that every course has an ideal mix of people with talent, impressive interpersonal skills and a positive attitude. General Entry requirements: Candidates must complete an online application and upload the following items: A copy of the bachelor degree earned in a discipline appropriate for the programme A copy of the high school diploma A detailed curriculum vitae* A personal statement (not exceeding one page) For non-native English speakers a minimum EmSAT English score of 1400 or TOEFL score of 550, 213 CBT, 79-80 ibt or an IELTS score of 6.0, valid for at least two years Official academic transcripts, official test scores Shortlisted candidates might be asked to attend an interview to assess the candidate s motivations, careers expectations and relevant professional experience in the degree area. International applicants are required to present an equivalency of their degree from the UAE Ministry of Education located in Abu Dhabi.
