Programs in English: A valid TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score which is higher than 80 (ibt) or a valid IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score which is higher than 6.0 or equivalent score in other forms of English language tests. Note: no language requirement for the students who apply for the program of Chinese Language Courses (for none-native speakers). We could arrange exchange students to take Chinese language course free of charge according to the timetable of the courses he/she has applied for. C. Nomination Procedure Required Documents for Screening Procedure Online 1. Before the Official nomination, exchange coordinators MUST consult with JLU exchange program manager or officer for your region concerning the number of Student Exchange Program nominees. 2. Once the number of nominees has been confirmed, you may send the scan copy of all the Required Documents for and return it to relevant regional manager or officer. 1. Nominated Name list; 2. A letter of recommendation from the office responsible for exchange students at home institution; 3. Exchange students application form; 4. Study plan in English or Chinese; 5. Official transcript; 6. Certificate of Enrollment; 7. A copy of passport photo page; 8. Language test certificate. The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) receives applications and reviews that all application requirements have been met. The application packet is then forwarded to the screening committee of each college for assessment. Not all candidates nominated by partner universities are admitted. Some may fail to have an admission if the requirements do not meet the committee s expectation. When the acceptance is confirmed, the OGE notifies the result through the students home institution. E. Academic Information: Course or Credits Load per Semester Contact hours per Course Methods of Examination Grading System It depends. JLU is not absolute credit system at present. Other Information: Residence Permit Health Examination Insurance All international students need a residence permit if staying longer than 6 months in China. It can be obtained under help of JLU staff after arrival. Exchange students MUST go to an authorized hospital to get one after arrival in China, Please consult the College of International Education about the detailed arrangement after registration. All international students (including exchange students) are required to have a group comprehensive insurance, which includes an Accidental Injury Medical Treatment Insurance & a Hospitalization Medical Insurance when they arrive. Housing living Expenses Average Temperature in Changchun Scholarship Work Permit On-campus housing Jilin University provides on-campus housing and meals for exchange students. All rooms are double occupancy in principle. Off-campus housing You may get the information of off-campus housing from the College of International Education, register at the local police station and get approval from the Public Security Organization. The living expenses (on-campus housing and meals) will be approximately 3000CNY per month. Following is a rough estimate of expenses for a single person living in Changchun: Lunch or dinner at a restaurant 50.00 Public Bus ticket (one way) 1.00+ Taxi 6.00+ Changchun has four distinct seasons. Average summer temperature ranges from 20-25, highest being some 30, the weather is dry and usually air conditioning is not needed in summer. Average winter temperature is about -12 to -16, lowest rarely reaches -30. but all rooms are well heated. You could enjoy skating and skiing in winter time. Not available for exchange students International students (X visa holders) are not allowed to work outside the campus yet. 6
